Paid £100 tonight for cut and colour. It’s genuinely a terrible cut, scraggy with loads of very short layers, complete opposite of what I asked for. Colour like something from the 90s. Hair dye literally all over my face (although that can be fixed I don’t expect that for £100)
I didn’t speak up at the time because I felt awkward and also didn’t have my glasses on and wanted to have a look at home, thinking it wasn’t that bad. Husband and friends kindly confirm it is that bad. Indeed it’s fucking terrible.
So...I’m considering ringing tomorrow and talking to them. But...what would it achieve. Would the hairdresser be offended? And how can they fix a cut that is too short? Should I just chalk this down to experience? It’s a small village and I worry about offending!

Stay strong OP, you are not imagining this, it is not the cut you asked for and those are not layers.

amusedbush · 08/04/2019 17:21

I have had a response saying that this would have been obvious when I left the salon even if curled

That's absolute bullshit. A couple of years ago I received a TERRIBLE haircut but it wasn't obvious at all until I washed and straightened it myself a few days later. Here is what it looked like leaving the salon, and then what I discovered when it was straight. I went straight back to the salon and even the director was at a loss as to how he could fix it.

when you contacted them their first response was to imply that you are lying, this is very unprofessional, the customer is always right.
They ought to have responded apologetically, not defensively

gamerwidow · 08/04/2019 17:48

There’s no way they can say that’s what you asked for. That picture clearly is much longer at the front than at the back what they’ve cut is the exact opposite.
I don’t understand how they can mess up such a common haircut (common as in not unusual). Surely inverted bobs are so ubiquitous they do at least one a day. I would seriously worry about the abilities of a hairdresser who can’t manage this.

BruceAndNosh · 08/04/2019 18:14

If they say there is nothing wrong with the cut, tell them to use your photo on the Facebook page as advertising

Great line!

Hearhere · 08/04/2019 18:17

what you have is the antithesis of an inverted bob
are they on glue

Indie139 · 09/04/2019 09:04

Sorry but if i got that for £100 i wouldnt care if the hairdresser was offended. I'd complain if i were you.

CottonSock · 09/04/2019 09:08

Good luck today.

CurbsideProphet · 09/04/2019 09:16

"If they say there is nothing wrong with the cut, tell them to use your photo on the Facebook page as advertising"

Yes that should stop the messing about.
I really hope you get it sorted Flowers

So I went in, the manager met me and was lovely which meant I failed in my assertiveness. There was a lot of minimising going on and a lot of ‘it’s all in the styling’ although he did say the hairdresser had made a mistake in trying to blend my fringe (that was chin length before) I pointed out multiple times that I didn’t have short layers before and now I do and have a mullet and that the picture is completely different to what I got. I didn’t get an apology or a refund but he did ‘blend’ it so it’s marginally less mullet like and showed me how to style it so it’s less obvious.
It went how I expected that it was minimised and I bottled it about asking again for a refund. I’m annoyed at myself but could see I wasn’t getting anywhere and just wanted to leave.
Big fat failure on my part 😢

No you haven't failed it's very difficult to deal with something like this, when it's your appearance when it's your hair, for most of us so strongly linked to how self-esteem and how we feel about ourselves, it's very difficult, you already feel kind of embarrassed and humiliated, because you've paid a lot of money and just not been given what you asked for.
The manager is totally in the wrong and unprofessional, if that was me I would just never ever go back there

Hearhere · 09/04/2019 10:38

What do you want to do now, you could continue your complaint by email where it's easier to compose your responses?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/04/2019 10:40

Email and thank them for trying to blend it in but you are looking for a refund.

PepsiLola · 09/04/2019 10:55

Leave a review of the business on fb and google. They have really fucked up!

BlackCatSleeping · 09/04/2019 10:59

I can't believe he actually taught you how to style it to cover up the mess he made. That's just bonkers!! He has no self-respect at all.

I would definitely leave a bad review with photo, and if you can afford it, go to another salon and see what they can do for you.

I feel so bad for you though. Flowers

Hearhere · 09/04/2019 11:04

OP what is the salon like, it sounds like a completely unprofessional Mickey mouse sort of setup?

BrokenWing · 09/04/2019 11:08

Unprofessionally handled by the salon who should be doing everything possible to protect their precious reputation. Mistakes happen, but they should apologise and make sure you left happy (or as happy as possible) on your second visit. Did they even ask you if you were happy with the cut/colour now?

Id write off the £100, but would be posting those pictures on their FB and any review sites with a factual account of what happened on both visits. Get some of your friends (or local MNetters!) to like or respond to the review, with comments saying it has been handled unprofessionally, very poor cut, recommending other salons.

pollymere · 09/04/2019 11:11

I had a bad cut that looked ok until I washed it. Went back and someone else made it look great. Don't be afraid to say it just didn't look right.

3luckystars · 09/04/2019 11:11

You did great!

Going back in to face them was the hardest bit. You did it, well done!

pollymere · 09/04/2019 11:14

Sorry, it just updated with your comment. 😞 you might have to grow it out. It sounds as if they've done their best but it's a crap salon.

Hearhere · 09/04/2019 11:17

Yes exactly the salons precious reputation
these people are fools, they are risking their reputation for the sake of 100 quid

spaniorita · 09/04/2019 11:32

I'm disgusted in them OP, I know it's hard but please don't let it drop now, I don't think they should be able to get away with doing this without consequence.

NuclearReactor · 09/04/2019 11:38

Aww OP they have absolutely butchered your hair! Quite disappointing that they didn't give you any refund whatsoever, considering even now that they 'blended' it, it's still not what you asked for.

I would leave a review on their page stating that they didn't give as you asked and post the pictures of before, after and what you had asked for.

Hearhere · 09/04/2019 11:43

On Facebook put something like 'I asked for this sleek modern haircut, I got something that looked as if my friend's mum had done it half pissed in her kitchen in the 1980s'

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 09/04/2019 11:59

A decent inverted bob should not need loads of styling to look good.
If I'm rushed for time, I can just rough dry mine, turn the ends under and it looks fine. If i spend 5 minutes on it, it looks great.

If a style only looks good with half an hour of professional blowdrying, it's useless.

It's very easy to be embarrassed into accepting their response.
I would go home, wash it and see if their "styling tips" work.
If it still looks crap, email them again and insist on a refund.
You've given them a chance to correct their mistake and they have fobbed you off. Time to threaten a facebook review with photos
