Paid £100 tonight for cut and colour. It’s genuinely a terrible cut, scraggy with loads of very short layers, complete opposite of what I asked for. Colour like something from the 90s. Hair dye literally all over my face (although that can be fixed I don’t expect that for £100)
I didn’t speak up at the time because I felt awkward and also didn’t have my glasses on and wanted to have a look at home, thinking it wasn’t that bad. Husband and friends kindly confirm it is that bad. Indeed it’s fucking terrible.
So...I’m considering ringing tomorrow and talking to them. But...what would it achieve. Would the hairdresser be offended? And how can they fix a cut that is too short? Should I just chalk this down to experience? It’s a small village and I worry about offending!

Oh dear. Can you post another picture for us to take a look? Perhaps it does look better but it’s still not what you asked for. They should have blended it and refunded you. Would it be easier to email them? Or put that review suggested by hearhere?

Hearhere · 09/04/2019 12:40

The bottom line is you went in with a picture of a standard popular and straightforward hairstyle, they gave you something completely different
Like you went into a shop and asked for a bottle of lemonade and came out with a ball of string
all this crap about styling it properly it's just a distraction

Hearhere · 09/04/2019 12:40

They are just fucking gaslighting you!

Veterinari · 09/04/2019 13:02

I have an inverted bob similar to the picture you took in. It looks great curled but fine without - I salt spray and rough-dry it - that’s it, no styling required.

Can you post update photos OP? What was the response when you pointed out it was nothing like the photo? I think that’s the key point - it doesn't Matter if they decided to blend your fringe or give you styling tips - you asked for the cut in the photo, and you didn’t get it!

PineapplePatty · 09/04/2019 13:03

Email back to say you've got home and it's still terrible and on reflection styling to hide their mistake isn't really on.

Send your bank details for a refund.

Go on! We are all behind you

Hearhere · 09/04/2019 13:07

I wonder if they are bending over backwards to protect the stylist, perhaps she is someone who could cause problems if she's upset?

fairyjuice · 09/04/2019 14:12

Email them again, tell them you're still not happy, and threaten the wrath of poor social media reviews on them if they don't refund you.

I'm shocked at their handling tbh, and you didn't even get an apology Angry

RoboticSealpup · 09/04/2019 18:27

I knew this would happen, OP. It's not your fault. Trying to get a hairdresser to own up to a mistake is like squeezing blood out of a stone. I think they learn deflection techniques and how to blame the customer as part of their training...

TheGodmother · 09/04/2019 18:39

Omg you're amazing for going back in and by yourself!! Huge kudos for that! I bet 90%of us here wouldn't do that!

However you're still not happy. Email and ask for a rebate. As for "blaming" you for not styling it properly!

You've done the very hard bit now get your money back. I'd leave a review on Facebook, not sure if companies can remove negative reviews? Also tell your friends to leave a review too. Wankers!

cms1972 · 09/04/2019 18:50

I would go to another salon, get extensions put in, then ask them to cut it in the style you want so that you look fab. Then email the original salon. Include all before and after photos as necessary! In your email say you've had to go somewhere else, you've paid £X for extensions and you would like them to either refund the original cut or reimburse you for the extensions. Probably they won't, but you'll have made your point. And you'll look good!

mummywingingit · 09/04/2019 18:56

I use to be a hairdresser but hated it!
If a customer wasn't happy they would speak up and get corrected.
You've shown them a lovely bob style and been given a mullet/page boy cut. Looks like the stylist was either a trainee and out of depth and just kept cutting to cover mistakes. I would call and ask to speak to manager. That can at least correct colour, refund you and try to make the cut a little better/softer.
They can also help train the stylist as they clearly need some help.
Don't feel bad for the stylist. Hair is so important to making us feel good about ourselves and I would be devastated if I got this done to my hair!! Especially for £100

purplecorkheart · 09/04/2019 19:33

I am sorry you have had a such a horrific cut. Had it happen to me once and complained. Salon manager fixed my cut as much as she could. Refunded my money and gave me weekly blowdries with conditioning treatments for six months (may have only used a few of them). The stylist who cut my hair was also sent on a cutting course.

You deserve a refund way more than I did. I suggest that you email the salon again and tell them you want a refund with in 48 hours or you want the stylist/salon's insurance details and that you will persue it with them/small claims courts.

purplecorkheart · 09/04/2019 19:52

I am not one of these people who believe in taking claims but the are really trying to fob you off. Time to give them a short sharp shock

GabsAlot · 09/04/2019 22:42

i know how hard it

if its beter for you email and say youre still not satisfied would like a refund and if not you be going to small claims court with your photos-noone wants to go to court and be shown up

Flaxmeadow · 10/04/2019 07:56

I have a theory that many hairdressers simply do not have the skill to cut hair into a style anymore. I think this is partly due to the recent fashion for long straight hair without layers. They do not gain experience in cutting hair into a layered style. Colour, extensions, blow drying yes but not so much actual cutting. I also notice hairdressers posting to their social media pages colours, extensions, blow waves but very few actual cuts
I like to have an inverted layered bob and the amount of times I've ended up with my hair chopped around the ears is more often than not. It ends up like a mullet.
Probably the best way to get a good cut now is to go to one of those cheaper dry cut sit and wait places. They only cut hair and so have the experience

BlackCatSleeping · 10/04/2019 08:37

My mum was telling me about a new salon that opened up in her village. Apparently, the hairdresser could only do men and could only cut the one style. 😂

Does it occur to these people that maybe hairdressing isn't for them?

ShirleyPhallus · 10/04/2019 08:44

Honestly OP just PM one of us your details and we will call the salon for you, cheeky fucks

Erksum · 10/04/2019 08:48

Email back to say you've got home and it's still terrible and on reflection styling to hide their mistake isn't really on.

I agree. I'd email.

BloodyDisgrace · 10/04/2019 10:13

So sorry it happened to you, and for eye watering 100quid! If I were you (didn;t read the thread), I'd go back, be polite and firm and ask for my money back. Worth a try. (Then you could go to a different hairdresser and ask for a short bob the length of your sides, so it is even all round). If they are arsey and refuse, threaten to write a damning review and do it.

Next time always pay attention and intervene if you think they are cutting too much. That's what I do. Like "I think you're taking a bit too much here, please don't make it too short" or "This side is perfect, please concentrate on the other one now". It's ok to do it, believe me, as it is your hair. If one thinks one gives oneself to the hand of professional and let's them run wild while they gab about nonsense non-stop, one might end up being robbed off money and looking quite shit. Although what dumbarse could think that what they gave you is a "haircut", where they've seen something like it, I seriously don't know.

adulthumanwolf · 10/04/2019 10:16

How's it looking now OP?

Isawthesignanditopenedupmyeyes · 10/04/2019 15:19

Thanks for all the support! It’s slightly better and if I put the sides back it’s passable. The colour is dire but I may stick a box dye over the top. Had lunch with some of the ‘ladies who lunch today’ and told my sorry tale and word is spreading so I think word of mouth will be a natural karma. I wish I had the guts to leave a review online but I’m just hoping it grows quick and can be forgotten about with a huge lesson learned!

OP if you paid by card claim through the bank for fraud and failure to deliver services. They will refund the money and recall it back from the hairdressers.

SeriouslyStrongCheese · 10/04/2019 17:53

It's not fraud. You can dispute the payment via your bank but the hairdressers could dispute it back. Also I work for a bank so i say this from a position of knowledge. Its only fraud if it wasn't you who made the transaction.

Hippychick78 · 11/04/2019 17:46

I've been following this with interest op. I struggle with being assertive and it really sounds like despite your best efforts you haven't got the outcome you desired.

I (and am sure others here) would be happy to attempt an email draft for you if you wished to put it in writing. They're not being fair here 😠

Is much easier to put your points in writing and ask for a written response. A quick summary of what's Happened followed by the key points and requested outcome.

Just found this on a quick Google might be worth a tinker with under the category 'not described'

www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-rights-act

I think it helps you generate a letter and quotes consumer rights act etc

Hippychick78 · 11/04/2019 17:47

This was so important to you, I just feel that you need a fair outcome ❤️
