Paid £100 tonight for cut and colour. It’s genuinely a terrible cut, scraggy with loads of very short layers, complete opposite of what I asked for. Colour like something from the 90s. Hair dye literally all over my face (although that can be fixed I don’t expect that for £100)
I didn’t speak up at the time because I felt awkward and also didn’t have my glasses on and wanted to have a look at home, thinking it wasn’t that bad. Husband and friends kindly confirm it is that bad. Indeed it’s fucking terrible.
So...I’m considering ringing tomorrow and talking to them. But...what would it achieve. Would the hairdresser be offended? And how can they fix a cut that is too short? Should I just chalk this down to experience? It’s a small village and I worry about offending!

That's good that's they have sent a more sympathetic reply.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 06/04/2019 17:51

Your hair before looked lovely - will it take long to grow it out?

HalyardHitch · 06/04/2019 17:53

How did you get on?

ApolloandDaphne · 06/04/2019 17:55

Go in and at least see what they say. I think they really need to see it in the flesh as it were. It sounds like the stylist has admitted she cocked it up.

bakedbeanzontoast · 06/04/2019 18:27

The damage is done - even when you get it fixed it is still going to be shorter than you wanted: even if the cut is a good one. At the absolute minimum I'd want a refund plus and I know some might think this is a bit grabby - something extra as compensation - maybe a voucher for some products - after all you are going to have to go elsewhere to get the cut fixed.

But I think you should have no problems getting a refund. Good luck to you.

Yb23487643 · 07/04/2019 17:38

100% Refund + free extensions is the only way to fix it. Shorter cut might be ok but might really not suit you & it does grow back but take ages in some people (me). Mine looked ok but then I put on a stone cos of hormonal change & it looked awful!!! Fat jawline just made me look awful & could do nothing to hide it

BlackCatSleeping · 07/04/2019 17:43

Oh, dear! That looks like my 5-year-old cut it!

vintanner · 07/04/2019 17:51

Report it, they need to be told they have a bad hairdresser on their staff. If they can't do what someone asks for then they shouldn't attempt it.

I am sorry it is nothing like the photo at all. Show the manager and ask them if THEY would be happy with the haircut and colour.

At the very least you must get your money back, £100 is not a small amount.

Years ago I did something similar, I wanted a complete change, cut and colour, I told him when he'd finished that it wasn't what I had asked for, but he was adamant people would like it and that I would too. When I got back to work, not one person noticed, I went straight back to the hairdressers and told him, he redid my hair for nothing, but it still wasn't what I had wanted and I told him so. He was unhappy about it but just shrugged his shoulders. I said I'd never return and he would not be getting any recommendations from me.

Hanywany · 07/04/2019 18:01

Omg im a hairdresser and that is bloody awful i saw pics and you wanted a tousled long layered lob not a bloody mullet! Complain get your money back and go elsewhere! Thats really poor hairdressing!!Angry

LifeofClimb · 07/04/2019 18:10

Fingers crossed they help you on Tuesday! That is a shocking cut, totally feel for you.

Treacletoots · 07/04/2019 18:18

Been here done that! I once went in for a colour and the girl who did the colours it turns out she was 16 and had just started. They let a newbie loose with bleach on my hair.

It looked bloody awful, nowhere close to the roots and even after I complained they tried to redo it but there was no saving it.

I made it clear when I left I wasn't happy and they offered a 50% discount. I later followed up with a complaint by email and got a very unpleasant reply saying it was my fault.

I was now pretty pissed off and emailed head office saying of they didn't send me some compensation and 6 months of haircare to treat the frazzled hair I would sue.

I got £500 and a bucket of good hair product. Didn't come close to how long it took to get my hair back to normal though. Angry

Potterurotter · 07/04/2019 18:22

‘The stylist is really upset’ like she didn’t know what a hash she’d made of it she must be blind her feelings are irrelevant! Feel for you OP sadly shite hairdressers are all too common demand your money back you deserve it it’s a lot of money and getting your hair done should make you feel great not utter shite! X

labazsisgoingmad · 07/04/2019 18:25

sorry that you had to have such an ordeal i hope you get your money back and can go somewhere that will try to make you happier
when i was a lot younger actually 8 year old i haunted mum for a feather cut think bonnie tyler/rod stewart it ruined my hair took quite a few years to grow out i looked like a demented cockerel

maysiemay · 07/04/2019 18:30

I asked for an exstremely similar cut to you. assemtrical longer layers at the front touching the shoulders. I wanted it to compliment my natural curls which i mentioned and showed the picture. I ended up with a mass of layers cut into the neck and it was so short it was above my jawline. One side was longer than the other! To short for a ponytail for months. I did say its a lot shorter than the picture and she tried to say because of the style i had chosen it had to be cut that way. She was resistant to it looking nothing like the picture. Left and cried . I was in shock for over a week. The hairdresser i went to owned the place ! Its really hard to complain effectively i am quite shy/anxious around people I don't know. I hope you get a refund or something.

Durrt · 07/04/2019 18:43

Fair enough they want to see it (I guess), but by no means let them talk you into rectifying it. Be firm. You go in to see them, as they requested, then you politely but firmly state you would like a full refund.

Sorry this has happened to you OP. It's shocking!

SunshineCake · 07/04/2019 18:47

Assaulted?

Don't be stupid.

AWishForWingsThatWork · 07/04/2019 18:47

It's a shockingly poor cut, and hopefully someone sensible has taken over sorting it out. Alternatively, they've seen this thread. Grin (IF so, sort it out how the OP wants it sorted!)

Good luck, OP. They've mucked up, not you. And they need to fix it or refund you depending on your comfort levels, not theirs.

PinkiOcelot · 07/04/2019 18:47

She should be upset. She’s done a really bad job. You deserve nothing less than a full refund.

skyblu · 07/04/2019 18:48

I complained once at a hairdressers (Big chain, very well known, pricey!). It was 20+ years ago, but I was so upset with my cut. I worked with a bunch of lads at the time who were very ‘to the point’ let’s say, when asked what they thought.
I rang up and stated I wasn’t happy. They booked me back in, gave me the top stylist to try and fix it AND refunded my original money once they saw how upset I was. To be fair, they were very lovely about it. (I still didn’t really like what they did when they tried to ‘fix’ it, but as they’d displayed such kindness & good customer service, I just knotched it up to experience (but never went back) and knew my hair would grow again, so just rode it out).
Don’t be afraid to complain. There are ‘nice’ ways to do it that will work in your favour.

Everythingmagnolia · 07/04/2019 19:04

Interested to see how this is resolved, good luck OP

YetAnotherBloodyNameChanger · 07/04/2019 19:45

I’m a hairdresser and completely perplexed as to how they managed to cut it so bad.

The style you showed them is one of the easiest to do! You bring all the hair back like you’re doing a one length and point cut. How the fuck did the short bits happen? So confused and annoyed for you op. Your best bet now is to go for a short version so it grows into what you wanted. I can’t even go into the colour. Disgraceful service

Tessabelle74 · 07/04/2019 19:46

OMG!! I'd happily go with you to kick some ass if you were my friend! That's awful and the opposite of what you asked for. Sod it being awkward, they should be ashamed they let you leave the salon like that! I hope you get it sorted 🌸

questabellatreetop · 07/04/2019 20:20

My hair was really long before and I explicitly said I want to still be able to tie it back. I’m not sure if going back will just cause awkwardness and more stress. This was supposed to be my first step towards self care after a shit time.

I had my haircut last weekend for the same reason. I'm so sorry.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 07/04/2019 20:22

Jeez OP I hope they do something good with it on Tuesday. Don't let them get away with not.

YouLookNiceJackie · 07/04/2019 20:36

I had been trying to grow my hair out for ages since a hairdresser cut my layers way to short and found that once I started using the Lee Stafford hair growth range it has not only grown much faster but looks alot healthier too. Good luck on Tuesday and stand your ground. You never have to go back in there again after then x
