Paid £100 tonight for cut and colour. It’s genuinely a terrible cut, scraggy with loads of very short layers, complete opposite of what I asked for. Colour like something from the 90s. Hair dye literally all over my face (although that can be fixed I don’t expect that for £100)
I didn’t speak up at the time because I felt awkward and also didn’t have my glasses on and wanted to have a look at home, thinking it wasn’t that bad. Husband and friends kindly confirm it is that bad. Indeed it’s fucking terrible.
So...I’m considering ringing tomorrow and talking to them. But...what would it achieve. Would the hairdresser be offended? And how can they fix a cut that is too short? Should I just chalk this down to experience? It’s a small village and I worry about offending!

I had the same issue a few years ago, uneven cut although not as bad as yours but terrible colour.

I also sent them a message with pics clearly explaining everything I thought was bad about it, I got a "sorry you feel like that" and offer to get it redone by the salon owner but I kept asking for a refund as I had no confidence in the place after that. I did get a full refund and got it fixed somewhere else. At the 2nd salon all the employees were talking about it and coming over to have a look and exclaim how could the other salon have done such a bad job Grinit weirdly made me feel better to know I wasn't making a big deal over nothing.

I would recommend after this is resolved do leave an honest online review!! I didn't leave any review as I thought it wasn't fair as I had my money back, but I regret it now. I still wasted 4 hours of my time there and if i was choosing a new salon I would want to know about negative experiences even if they had been resolved.

Hope you get it resolved very soon!

Here's mine for a giggle - weirdly for explaining the colour I showed the exact same picture as @Isawthesignanditopenedupmyeyes it's a Pinterest favourite I think!

Ended up with a cut that was longer on one side than the other and two big orange streaks on the top layers at either side of my head rather than the subtle balayage I had been dreaming of. They curled my hair too and I didn't realise just how bad it was until I washed it, i thought it might just take some getting used to.

OP that's shocking they've done that to you. Try to stand your ground and don't let them minimise it. I know it can be easier said than done.

I once had to complain to my hairdresser. I'd been going there for about 10 years. Someone else did my colour and it just wasn't what I wanted. I found it difficult to raise but they were lovely and rectified it the next week for free. That's what a good hairdressers should do.

They have obviously failed on both counts! The cut and the customer service afterwards.

You've done nothing wrong. Don't let their short comings affect you.

Personally I would push for a refund. I'm not sure they can solve this. More layers is not the answer. Then go somewhere better for help. Clips may become your friend for a few months ❤️

LL83 · 06/04/2019 08:23

Hope you get your refund OP, least they can do. I would threaten to share story on Facebook if I had to.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/04/2019 08:30

Oh my, you poor thing!

I would insist on a refund and wouldn't let anyone in the salon anywhere near my hair again tbh as that is shocking.

Peterpiperpickedwrong · 06/04/2019 08:31

They have replied, have said it looked as it should when I left
Shock wow. That is a dreadful response. What will you do?

Jesus Kate5555 did you go back to them and get it fixed or are you still living with the orange?

feelingsinister · 06/04/2019 08:33

I would definitely be demanding extensions to even it up as well as a refund. That's a fucking mullet!

If they don't offer extensions there they need to pay for you to have them elsewhere until your hair has grown enough to get it evened out.

That is a terrible cut!

That picture is very popular, I also asked for that last time! 😄

Isawthesignanditopenedupmyeyes · 06/04/2019 08:42

Kate555 what did you do?! I shouldn’t laugh but your pic makes me feel better!

Kate5555 · 06/04/2019 08:50

@Isawthesignanditopenedupmyeyes I'm glad it makes you feel better! I can laugh about it too now although at the time I was in tears and considering buying a box dye to make it all dark again!

I got a full refund and went to another salon to get it fixed. As I said in my post (just before the one with pics) I would really recommend to write a review even after it has been resolved!

Here's another pic after it had been fixed, plus one more showing the full horror of the orangeness GrinGrinGrin

That is a very popular picture for a hair makeover.

Few hairdressers and colourists can achieve this though - I have also fallen foul to the exact same one. Mine was a fail in comparison to the image, but I could live with it as it was a layered bob, that i grew out.

In your case, it is an epic fail. Please go back and demand a refund.

Isawthesignanditopenedupmyeyes · 06/04/2019 08:58

I have messaged back thanking them for offering to look at it but saying that I don’t have confidence in the salon and would like a refund to go elsewhere. Fingers crossed

I am so very cross on your behalf. They have totally butchered your previously lovely hair length.

Be firm, don’t allow them near it again with scissors but remain resolute you want a full refund. In fact you deserve compensation from them for making such an hash of your hair.

Im sorry for you and mad at them.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 06/04/2019 09:06

OP.....I once grew my hair from a pixie (never again) and got it to something that could resemble a bob with a tidy up.The hair dresser made a complete balls of it and cut it to half way up my cheek
They told me to come in and they'd fix it but I was like.....how could this be possible when she's cut it all off?? The salon manager eventually accepted this and refunded me
My (up until then) much trusted hairdresser did similar.
I was growing out a pixie, and reminded him several times at the beginning that I was growing the layers out. I answered my phone (just to tell the person to ring my husband, not me) and in that 15 seconds he'd cut the phone free side up around my ears again! 8 months growth gone!
I kind of accepted it at the time as it was done, but went back the next day and he agreed to not only refund me, but also did two free cuts over the next 2 months to blend in the regrowth.
I happily continued going to him until we moved out of the area.

Aim high with your demands

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 06/04/2019 09:12

Definitely take someone with you for support.
Just be a broken record, keep repeating, No I want a refund.
It's Saturday, their busiest day. They won't want a dissatisfied customer complaining in front of a full salon.
You may have to raise your voice above the hair dryer noise

Isawthesignanditopenedupmyeyes · 06/04/2019 09:13

I have had a response saying that this would have been obvious when I left the salon even if curled. I’m not sure if they are suggesting I’ve cut it myself?! I really don’t want to go in but I’m going to have to aren’t I?

OP posts:
PepsiLola · 06/04/2019 09:20

I think you go in and talk to them.
Over fb messenger they are just trying to avoid a refund.

Or you can leave them with a very public fb review (you can threat this) showing that picture comparison

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 06/04/2019 09:24

The it should have been obvious line is crap when curls are involved.

I'm naturally curly and used to sometimes straighten my hair, but mainly wear it curly (nowadays I usually straighten it all the time). I lost track of the amount of times I'd have my hair done then only notice things like one side a lot longer than the other, or an out of place chunk gone when I'd straighten in at home. Always looked good leaving the salon. I ended up making sure my hair was straightened when getting it cut to avoid that.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 06/04/2019 09:28

I think it's reasonable for them to want to see it in person.
Can you try to curl it yourself to make it look acceptable to prove that curling it CAN hide the mess.

MargotLovedTom1 · 06/04/2019 09:34

Did you take any pictures of it before the curls dropped out? You really do have to go in and complain.

kaytee87 · 06/04/2019 09:41

I'd reply to them saying are they honestly suggesting you did this to yourself. Tell them their attitude is disgusting then screenshot the whole conversation and put it on their Facebook page.

Funnyface1 · 06/04/2019 09:42

Just tell them that "no, the curls disguised the true shoddiness of the cut. I'm left with this scraggly mullet that in no way resembles the picture I provided and I'm not going to back down until I receive a full refund. Customer satisfaction should be a top priority for a salon and I am devastated by the way my hair has been left."

Sexnotgender · 06/04/2019 09:44

I’m not a hairdresser and I’m pretty sure I could have done a better job than that!

Please complain! I hope you get your money back.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/04/2019 09:46

I would message them and tell them you will be in first thing Monday morning so they can refund you.

When you are there you can ask them if they are suggesting you cut it yourself.

Go in and speak loud enough for other people to hear, don't shout obviously but be very assertive.

Failing that you leave bad reviews and post it all over FB.

In this day and age any company who doesn't take a complaint seriously deserves all they get. It is SO easy to smooth down ruffled feathers and offer a refund etc and quite honestly if you can't manage that then you don't deserve to be in business!

StarJumpsandaHalf · 06/04/2019 09:48

Good luck OP.

I’d reply that we obviously have to resolve this face to face in the salon, but they should be prepared for how upset and angry I am.
I’ll see them later today.

MaybeNew · 06/04/2019 09:59

Put a Facebook review up.

Be very polite and say how disappointed you are that having had a really bad hair cut, the salon are blaming you for it looking so awful and that you have never been to a salon before where the simple act of walking home has ruined a hair cut.
