Paid £100 tonight for cut and colour. It’s genuinely a terrible cut, scraggy with loads of very short layers, complete opposite of what I asked for. Colour like something from the 90s. Hair dye literally all over my face (although that can be fixed I don’t expect that for £100)
I didn’t speak up at the time because I felt awkward and also didn’t have my glasses on and wanted to have a look at home, thinking it wasn’t that bad. Husband and friends kindly confirm it is that bad. Indeed it’s fucking terrible.
So...I’m considering ringing tomorrow and talking to them. But...what would it achieve. Would the hairdresser be offended? And how can they fix a cut that is too short? Should I just chalk this down to experience? It’s a small village and I worry about offending!

Woah OP it’s like going back in time to a 1989s foot match.

Am quite sure you didn’t ask for the same cut as Chris Waddle.

Yes get them to sort it out pronto.

You will need to go shorter but that’s def a better option that channelling pat sharp.

It can be rescued. But you need to be firm.

commenting11 · 05/04/2019 23:00

What on earth! I asked for an almost identical style to this. It’s all about the styling not the cut. I.e textured bob type cut that you curl with tongs. What were they thinking? You could wear it half up half down until you get some length back at the front? Defo ask for refund.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 05/04/2019 23:01

It looks like someone did a terrible job of the Mumsnet haircut on you!

I know it's difficult, I have had a few hairdressing disasters where I didn't have the guts to go back and ask them to sort it, but I really think you should. I'm really sorry they did that to you.

TheChiefBMS · 05/04/2019 23:01

You asked for a bob and got a mullet.

I would hate confronting the culprit, it's beyond embarrassing. But, you could call the salon and ask to speak to the owner/manager. I would then politely explain that the cut and colour you were given did not match what you asked for. I would also mention that several people have expressed surprise at how bad it is, independently of your own opinion of it. It is not what you asked for and it is an objectively bad hairdo. Tell them you would like a refund in order to pay for a repair. Do not accept offers from the salon to repair! Just ask for the money back. Tell them if they do not refund, you will be sharing the photos you added here on review sites and your reviews will include that they refused to refund.

You have been assaulted! You are not being a CF asking for your money back. They REALLY owe you.

JaneEyre07 · 05/04/2019 23:02

You need to have the back shortened OP, into more of a graduated bob shape to lose the mullet effect. Don't let them cut the front.

It's nothing remotely like what you asked for, and there are no layers in the pic you wanted. I wouldn't accept it, and tell them you want a refund and it sorting out, pronto. Use the fact it's a small village to your advantage.... ie "I'm happy to tell everyone where this happened to me".

Isawthesignanditopenedupmyeyes · 05/04/2019 23:03

I once met Chris Waddle as a child. His cut was better...

Tailfeather · 05/04/2019 23:03

Oh bless you. They could sort it with extensions maybe?

I feel your pain. I went to the hairdressers for a cut and colour that day before I had a photo shoot with a famous photographer for You Magazine! (Very much a one off - I'm not famous or anything!). It was all very exciting and I obviously wanted to look my best. The cut and colour was awful. I burst into tears when I saw it but there was no time to sort it. Amazingly the lady doing my hair the following day for the shoot was Cheryl Cole's personal stylist. She very politely asked what was up with my hair and when I burst out crying again and told her, she worked magic and I ended up looking ok. However,I was given some amazing photos from the shoot and I can't bear them as all I can see is the hair....

Still pissed off. Can you tell?! Confused

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 05/04/2019 23:03

Bless you. I'm glad you can see the funny side.

When I was younger (13 ish) I went to the hairdressers and asked for a 'Rachel' My nearly waist length hair was then butchered into a mullet and given a thick uneven fringe to boot.

I'm sure we've all been there.

Tailfeather · 05/04/2019 23:04

Glad you are able to laugh about it.

loobielousplaits · 05/04/2019 23:05

absolutely LOL @ that pic!! I'm ashamed to say as a teen in the 80's I actually had hair like that and thought I was lush! ha! Shock

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 05/04/2019 23:05

And then (I clearly didn't learn, but different salon) when VB had her 'pob' I asked for one of those. I ended up with a 'Karen wants to talk to the manager' cut. Given my hair is naturally v thick and wavy, it went from bad to worse.

Isawthesignanditopenedupmyeyes · 05/04/2019 23:07

I think she's tried to layer it and just went too far. Way too far. And also forgot to let the length drop before cutting the layers. I'm not sure why she attempted to layer it so much at the front. A-line bobs/graduated bobs tend not to have shorter layers at the front.

In terms of fixing it I'm not sure it's long enough for a graduated bob. A short bob would work and would be the easiest to grow out. If you're young enough/trendy enough to pull it off you could always braid the sides and blow dry the middle into a quiff.

Isawthesignanditopenedupmyeyes · 05/04/2019 23:12

They have replied, have said it looked as it should when I left but would like me to go back in to rectify it. I really don’t want to but I think they think I’ve took the scissors to it myself?

OP posts:
DancingintheSpoonlight · 05/04/2019 23:14

Maybe to them it looked ok...did they all have similar cuts and 80s Deirdre glasses while Rick Astley played in the back ground?

Frequency · 05/04/2019 23:16

They're trying it on. Every stylist in the salon will have done a double take as you walked out. Stand your ground and demand a refund. Tell them you will share pics naming and shaming them on social media if they don't refund.

julensaor · 05/04/2019 23:17

get them to put in front extensions for free, I can't see how else you could salvage something so short without having some graduated cut, that would take a good hairdresser to blowdry right every morning.

Isawthesignanditopenedupmyeyes · 05/04/2019 23:20

To be fair to them it didn’t look that bad when I left, it was curled but as the curls have dropped out I’m left with the Chris Waddle. They don’t seem keen on the refund, said they need to see it and maybe the layers need tweaking

loobielousplaits · 05/04/2019 23:22

I'm no hairdresser but from the pic the OP wanted it's obvious to someone who has no idea about haircutting that for a graduated bob you absolutely don't chop at the front and leave the back long and put in layers - it's absolutely the opposite of what she wanted!

Anyway, talking about hair, this is what I'm having on Saturday! Thankfully my trusted hairdresser will do her best to get it exactly right Smile

Fiveredbricks · 05/04/2019 23:22

She's literally cut it back to front. The stylist has fucked up and cut the layers the wrong way and tried to 'fix' it. Threaten small claims if they don't refund in full and fix it.

DancingintheSpoonlight · 05/04/2019 23:22

But ultimately it's not how they feel, it's the fact they have a very dissatisfied customer who feels they weren't listened to.

Tell them the Mumsnet mafia are not impressed with them Wink

PointlessUsername · 05/04/2019 23:23

I would decline their offer and stick with the refund.

Frequency · 05/04/2019 23:24

Tweaking is the biggest understatement I have ever heard. Don't ask for a refund, stop being polite and demand a refund or yes I agree a few extensions around the sides would help.

If it didn't look that bad it's because the stylist knew what she had done and very artfully minimised her mistake with clever styling. I bet the front was pushed back off your face?

loobielousplaits · 05/04/2019 23:24

Absolute rubbish OP - there is no tweaking to be done - she's chopped a graduated bob backwards! Stand your ground and demand your money back

RoboticSealpup · 05/04/2019 23:28

it looked as it should when I left

You know, I'm actually angry on your behalf now. What the fuck do they think they're playing at, just plain denying that they've given you a shit haircut when it's plain for everyone to see? Yeah, sure, it looked amazing when you left the salon. You must've gotten stuck in some razor wire on the way home which sliced of all the hair at the front of your head, without you noticing. Nothing to do with them - they gave you an amazing haircut that looked exactly like the picture!

Seriously, I've been in this situation more times than I can count and, generally, hairdressers who have fucked up would rather die than admit their mistake. They will tell you that you actually asked for this, that it suits you much better than what you asked for, or that there's something wrong with your hair.
