Paid £100 tonight for cut and colour. It’s genuinely a terrible cut, scraggy with loads of very short layers, complete opposite of what I asked for. Colour like something from the 90s. Hair dye literally all over my face (although that can be fixed I don’t expect that for £100)
I didn’t speak up at the time because I felt awkward and also didn’t have my glasses on and wanted to have a look at home, thinking it wasn’t that bad. Husband and friends kindly confirm it is that bad. Indeed it’s fucking terrible.
So...I’m considering ringing tomorrow and talking to them. But...what would it achieve. Would the hairdresser be offended? And how can they fix a cut that is too short? Should I just chalk this down to experience? It’s a small village and I worry about offending!

Good luck OP. They really are trying to avoid giving you a refund, which is ridiculous. You hold the cards. They must know that not refunding you and apologising profusely is going to cost them much more in the long run.

As a PP said, if they can't manage basic customer service, they don't deserve to be in business.

Monny1 · 06/04/2019 10:01

I would take someone with you, just in case, they try and fob you off.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/04/2019 10:04

Also worth reminding them that a good cut should fall into a decent style without being curled/styled within an inch of its life, and yours does not.

CoraPirbright · 06/04/2019 10:08

I cant believe they are arguing the toss with you when it is so obvious that it is so badly done! As pp’s have suggested, take back up with you when you go in, friend/partner/dh. The feistier the better!!

HeavensToTenby · 06/04/2019 10:08

Yes, is there someone gobby who can go with you? Don't let them fob you off - just standing there in the salon in full view of everyone waiting for their appointment will be bad enough for them, and they'll want to get you out ASAP.

Kolo · 06/04/2019 10:14

They may have made a big mistake in asking you to go in! I’d be delighted to go in, at their busiest time on a Saturday afternoon, and I’d be telling them quite loudly about the problem, to ensure every customer could hear me over the hairdryers.

bobstersmum · 06/04/2019 10:19

Bloody hell that's terrible op. I hope you get a full refund at minimum.

PineapplePatty · 06/04/2019 10:21

Oh what a shame. I hate the hairdressers just for this reason.

Ask them outright, what do you think happened to it once I walked out the door then?

Take a friend and go back. Send a link to this thread if you feel like it and say all of mumsnet after with me.

Name and shame.

k1233 · 06/04/2019 10:21

That pic is in my repertoire for the hairdresser too LOL for the colour and highlights, not cut. My hairdresser is fantastic. I take pics in of what I like and she does a magnificent job. She knows I'm really fussy about my hair, so we break the pics into elements, what I like about them etc

I'd be devastated if I was you. You'd asked for a lob, longer at front than back, with some long layers. Sounds like you'll have to argue with them, but you're right - why on earth would you get a cut then go home and turn it in to a mullet?

Can't wait to how you get on.

NotWhatWhat · 06/04/2019 10:31

Wow, their reply was really snarky. That's truly a bad cut. Not sure what you can do about it either. I hate extensions so those wouldn't work if it was me but maybe they would for you. Cutting the back a lot shorter may make the sides looks longer. I don't know. It's tricky.

I think the bayolage effect might be ok but it's hard to tell from a photo.

If you go in then I'd suggest you try not to get into a long discussion about it. I'd keep repeating that it's obviously nothing like you asked for and that you want your money back.

NotWhatWhat · 06/04/2019 10:31

Getting hair dye over your face is very amateurish too. Was it a trainee?

Bibbittybobbittyboo · 06/04/2019 10:33

Agree with a previous poster - if they insist on you going back make sure it’s when they’re at their busiest and explain loudly and in great detail what’s wrong. I’m quite sure they won’t argue the case and refund promptly to ensure you’re out the door quickly!

Good luck OP - it makes my blood boil that people can behave like this

Trekkingbeyond · 06/04/2019 10:38

Good luck OP! Dreadful customer service esp in these days of social media.

Meandwinealone · 06/04/2019 10:56

Get a refund before you leave any reviews. And don’t be bitchy in the review just be very factual. Which is bad enough in this case.
I wouldn’t want to go in either. And I certainly wouldn’t want anyone there cutting my hair.

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 06/04/2019 11:27

Fuck me, my Nanna could have done a better job and she's registered blind. And dead. Don't back down OP get that refund back even if you have to make them take it out the till.

MrsCasares · 06/04/2019 11:42

I have been on mn for many years. I can truthfully say I think this is the first AIBU that everyone agrees with the OP.

They have made a complete mess of your hair. Go in there fighting!

Good luck.

GabsAlot · 06/04/2019 11:42

it is awful did u message them your pic of it once the curls have dropped-hgow can they blame u for that shoddy cut

seeingdouble2 · 06/04/2019 11:56

I would be fuming OP, she's got the short at the front instead of back, it's an obvious mistake from looking at your pics. Send them the link for this thread, bet they would soon change their tune! Hope you get it sorted OP. x

spaniorita · 06/04/2019 12:07

Oh OP they should have been ashamed of themselves sending you out of the shop with that cut. I'm so sorry to see that. Quite nervous for my own hair cut on Monday now - I too am taking small steps in self care for the first time ever ready to go back to work after maternity leave. I hope this experience doesn't put you off in future, you deserve to feel good and look good. X

TheQueef · 06/04/2019 12:12

Yeah you have a total consensus here.
YANBU and you deserve to get what you asked for.
Good luck lass.

YAmILikeDis · 06/04/2019 12:13

I had very similar happen to me. Went from shoulder length same length hair to a shaggy 80s mullet when all I asked was a fucking trim Angry

When they said “it’ll grow back” I kicked off and used the refund to get hair extensions on the sides.

angieloumc · 06/04/2019 12:17

About seven years ago I tried the blonde look for a while; I went to a hairdresser who worked from home, I'd used her before and it always looked nice. This time she seemed to leave the dye on for longer than usual and I kid you not I looked like a Siberian tiger! It was horrific. Next day I went to a Supercuts walk in salon because I had no option and they fixed it though it was an expensive mistake.
Back to my normal mid brown after that though do have a few greys now.
I hope you do gave the confidence to go in and hopefully get a refund OP.

Piewife · 06/04/2019 12:20

I went to have my hair coloured once and when I styled it myself the next day I noticed loads of grey strands which hadn't been covered properly. I called them and they were fine about it, went in again a few days later and they redid it for me.

There's no way they should get away with this OP. Hope you get a refund.

Chocolate50 · 06/04/2019 12:34

I complained to a hairdressers once, years ago, got my money back, but was nearly in tears when I went out there having a cut I really didn't want, awful, I feel your pain

Frequency · 06/04/2019 12:42

All these bad hairdressers make me stabby. I can't find a fulltime hairdressing job because I am not experienced enough but these people are in employment?! It's not fair. Up until recently I worked on a Saturday in the salon I trained in but they don't have enough clients to offer me anything more.

I have never made a mistake as bad as the ones I see on here in my three years of training. Don't get me wrong, I've made mistakes. All stylists do but my mistakes are fixable and generally so small that only I can see them because I know they're there. When the client notices them or I think they might be noticeable by others I fix them before the clients leave without them having to ask. Most of the time the client is unaware a mistake was even made until I tell them and tell them what I did to rectify it.

OP, I think what has happened is she layered the top too much. Instead of pulling back when she got to the front so the layers fell longer she just kept going. I don't think she cut the shape like that. It probably looked okay until she went in with the layers.
