Paid £100 tonight for cut and colour. It’s genuinely a terrible cut, scraggy with loads of very short layers, complete opposite of what I asked for. Colour like something from the 90s. Hair dye literally all over my face (although that can be fixed I don’t expect that for £100)
I didn’t speak up at the time because I felt awkward and also didn’t have my glasses on and wanted to have a look at home, thinking it wasn’t that bad. Husband and friends kindly confirm it is that bad. Indeed it’s fucking terrible.
So...I’m considering ringing tomorrow and talking to them. But...what would it achieve. Would the hairdresser be offended? And how can they fix a cut that is too short? Should I just chalk this down to experience? It’s a small village and I worry about offending!

Robotic- that’s exactly what I was worried about and why I posted. I haven’t got the energy for more upset.

I'm glad you're laughing at it now.
If I were you I'd be telling them that you don't feel entirely comfortable going back in given how when the style fell you could see the cut. Get some absolute guarantees you would not be taken short all over and not be seen by the same stylist, and if they cannot do that stick to your guns regarding a refund.

TildaTurnip · 05/04/2019 23:32

It looked ok as you left the shop they say...sounds like she knew it was terrible and did something magical with a curling wand to hide it until you got home and the curls dropped out. Hope they don’t try and make out that you had a couple of snips!

wotsittoyou · 05/04/2019 23:32

They're taking the piss. It's absolutely obvious that the stylist has fucked up big style and cut layers in the front where they weren't supposed to be. They should apologise properly. Cheeky feckers.

wotsittoyou · 05/04/2019 23:36

Was it an apprentice?

I can't fathom how they've gone so drastically wrong. Even if you'd been looking for a cut with short layers around your face, this is a really bad example of it.

Frequency · 05/04/2019 23:36

Even if one my clients did that to themselves and tried to blame me I would still rectify it free of charge in case they went around telling people I had done it. Word of mouth is the best publicity a salon can get. Your clients are literally walking advertisements for your business. You have the power here, OP. Don't back down. Accept nothing less than a refund so you can go elsewhere or free extensions and maintenance appointments.

RoboticSealpup · 05/04/2019 23:36

I totally understand that. Unfortunately, they will most likely be horrible to you about it, no matter how blatant their fuck-up. That's always been my experience. I once got my hair dyed purplish-black when I had asked for ash blonde. They did correct it to some extent, but they were horribly rude about it and I still ended up with a golden blonde colour, which was the opposite of what I had come in for in the first place.

Frequency · 05/04/2019 23:41

See, purple instead of ash I can understand. Purple toner left on too long is a simple mistake to make. I dyed my 60 year old mother's hair purple last time I did her highlights. She was not impressed.

I did fix it before she left. She wouldn't even have noticed it was ever purple if my nephew hadn't walked in and said "Oh, nana, I love your hair. I've never seen a nana with purple hair before."

RoboticSealpup · 05/04/2019 23:43

Purple maybe, but dark purple to the point of basically being black rather than blonde? Either way, I wouldn't have minded so much if they hadn't pretended it looked amazing and that I should come in for a top-up when it starts to wash out "to keep the depth"...

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/04/2019 23:44

The salon I have gone to for years did an appalling bayalage job to DD the day before her 18th birthday party.

I phoned up and complained and the manager apologised and redid it herself.

huggybear · 05/04/2019 23:45

They're taking the piss. I'd feel to awkward to go back in too so would calmy ask for the refund again and if not post the photos on fb.

kaytee87 · 05/04/2019 23:52

God, sorry op, that's really bad.

How the fuck can they 'tweak' the layers??! I'd ask them how they think it looked ok when the front is so much shorter than the back??

claret3189 · 05/04/2019 23:57

It looks like they have done it the reverse for some odd reason. Let us know how you get on

CatGoals · 05/04/2019 23:57

You asked for an inverted bob and that is not an inverted bob.

kateandme · 05/04/2019 23:58

tell them no no no.you do not trsut me with your hair and will have a refund now please.

Strokethefurrywall · 06/04/2019 00:03

Sweet fuck, that's a dreadful cut and the reason I feel so bad for you is that I have exactly the same cut, only my hairdresser isn't a fuckwit like yours!

I'm happy you can laugh at it, I would absolutely kick off big style!

AlexaAmbidextra · 06/04/2019 00:06

Poor you. That’s shockingly bad. Why on earth has hairdresser chopped the sides so short? It’s nothing like the pic. You need to go back tomorrow and get them to do something. Sadly there’s nothing to be done about the length of the sides other than wait for it to grow but a decent hairdresser should be able to make some improvement.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 06/04/2019 00:09

Sweet baby Jesus that is a terrible (sorry) hair cut and their response is even more shocking.
Do you have anyone who can go with you to the salon?

PickAChew · 06/04/2019 00:11

That's pretty bloody awful and I love frequency's response. The only way up from that is a short, stacked bob because it's too short to even turn into a nice shage :(

sadsadsad19 · 06/04/2019 00:23

Wow. How could they defend that cut?! Cheeky buggers. I had similar, though not that bad, recently. Only I paid closer to £150. I went by online reviews that were all very positive. Asked for layers (already had a heap in) and they hacked off the bottom and gave me a very blunt cut (not good for thick, curly hair). Asked to go darker with subtle highlights, and they bleached my blunt cut head of hair within an inch of its life. Every time I thought something wasn’t right I showed pictures, and they insisted they got it. I was going through a really rough time and was trying to do something nice for myself too. So when they finished up and I saw how bad it was then they presented me with a bill for twice what I imagined it would be I got really angry. But I was so low at the time I didn’t do anything about it and vowed not to go back. I’ve got a lot of friends in the area and none will step foot in there now. But I wish I had spoken up. So we’ll done, OP. Don’t let them pretend you’re in the wrong here.

Ihatehashtags · 06/04/2019 00:29

Your hair looked more like the style you wanted before it got cut. I’m not entirely sure what you were wanting. The nice picture you asked for has been curled. That’s basically it

AwakeNow · 06/04/2019 00:31

I am not sure I would trust them again. I would rather wear hairbands/scarfs to try hide the front while I grow it out and/or book in a well known salon, although if you are rural it may be a hassle.

sandi2019 · 06/04/2019 00:43

OP.....I once grew my hair from a pixie (never again) and got it to something that could resemble a bob with a tidy up.The hair dresser made a complete balls of it and cut it to half way up my cheek.
They told me to come in and they'd fix it but I was like.....how could this be possible when she's cut it all off?? The salon manager eventually accepted this and refunded me.
OP....I have no idea what the stylist was thinking with your cut. It is a bad one...you appear to be dealing with this in a commendable way, good for you xx

WellThisIsShit · 06/04/2019 01:02

I hate it when people try and wriggle out of situations with no regard for how they are making the wounded party feel. It’s just sooooo... selfish and cowardly. Brassy bare face cheek of the selfish bastards!

It makes me really angry!

Do you have anyone you can ask to come with you so you’re not fighting your corner by yourself?

Margot33 · 06/04/2019 07:20

Go back with someone. Let the manager look at it. Refuse scissors near it and ask for a refund over and over again.
