To ask if your second baby was as big as your first

So I've heard a lot of people saying that the second baby is usually bigger than the first, what has your experience of this been? My first was 9lb 6oz so afraid this one will be bigger Blush
And did your pregnancies last the same length of time? Ds was born at 38 weeks so hoping number 2 will arrive around the same time and doesn't go on to 40 + weeks.

5oz smaller a week later

YouBumder · 05/04/2019 22:11

My second was almost a pound bigger than my eldest, 6lb 10 and 7lb 7. Eldest was a week late and youngest a few days early. Both boys. I think boys are generally bigger than girls as well - I know quite a few people who have had a girl after a boy and the girl has been smaller (not evidence, I know!)

PinkFluffyFairy · 05/04/2019 22:47

All three exactly the same size. Spooky!!

Tillygetsit · 05/04/2019 22:49

First 8lbs 8 second 7lbs 4. I think this one is going to be enormous given the size of me this time compared to first 2.

3in4years · 05/04/2019 22:50

Dc1 38+5 6lb15
Dc2 37+4 6lb04
Dc3 39+1 7lb09

Missnearlyvintage · 05/04/2019 22:51

My second was 1lb smaller, though she had suspected sepsis very soon after she was born, so she might have been a bit poorly beforehand and stopped gaining so much weight...

Cryalot2 · 05/04/2019 22:53

Smaller but then first child was 10 overdue and they were different sexes.
The smaller one was the harder birth for me.

cuppycakey · 05/04/2019 22:53

Second and subsequent babies are usually bigger aren't they? I don't think I know anyone this didn't apply to aside from a friend whose third pregnancy was twins.

I certainly wouldn't wish to have a baby early because of the health implications.

Are you worried about having a larger baby? My BF had a 13lb baby naturally so I shouldn't worry (first one was 11lb) and she is/was a size ten and really quite willowy.

Subsequent births (without medical interference) are statistically swifter. My first was 6 hours, second just under 2 hours.

Best of luck OP - Flowers

1st 8lb
2nd 10lb

ThorsMistress · 05/04/2019 23:07

First - 8lb 15oz - 9 days late
Second - 5lb 10oz - 4 days early

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 05/04/2019 23:10

Bigger.
Still fighting with DB re every single “bigger” thing, Taller, faster over 500m, deeper voice, better eyebrows etc

Sirrah · 05/04/2019 23:10

First 39wks 5lb 9oz girl
Second 34wks 6lb 4oz boy
Third 39wks 9lb 3oz girl

My third was a shock after two small babies (both perfectly healthy), and I still suffer the after effects 27 years on

22Giraffes · 05/04/2019 23:14

1st 8lb10oz 40+1
2nd 7lb12oz 40+9

Onceuponacheesecake · 05/04/2019 23:17

My first was 9'6. I was convinced no 2 would be bigger. He was 7lbs 14oz. I remember him being lifted to my chest and thinking"who's that skinny baby" Grin

wowsertrousers · 06/04/2019 01:27

My 2nd (boy) was 10oz smaller than my 1st (girl), despite having had extra cooking time.

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 06/04/2019 02:27

Ds1 - 2 weeks late - 6lb 11oz
Ds2 - 2 weeks early - 7lbs 8oz

Interestingly (to me at any rate! 😀) Ds1 was the tallest in his class, and ds2 was the shortest.

Now they are 21 and 15, ds2 shot up, and is now slightly taller and heavier than Ds1...

Galvantula · 06/04/2019 04:23

My 3 got smaller each time! Probably because first one was over a week after due date and the others were earlier than due date though!

VeniVidiViciTwice · 06/04/2019 04:30

My first was 9lb 4.5oz and was 10 days late (induced), second baby was 9lb 9.5oz, born on time (was a much easier labour).

Damntheman · 06/04/2019 07:57

My second was 4 days earlier and about 20g smaller. She was longer though, and her head 1 or 2 cm bigger.

HugoBearsMummy · 06/04/2019 12:18

First (Boy) 7.7, second (Girl) 8.1

HugoBearsMummy · 06/04/2019 12:19

Interestingly my first was 1 week late and second 4 days early

motherlondon · 06/04/2019 13:28

My last was the biggest baby born in the country that year........ sorry.

HoldMyGirl · 06/04/2019 13:38

What was the weight, motherlondon?

LinoleumBlownapart · 06/04/2019 13:40

No, she was a week late and still smaller than him. Third came out on time and even smaller than her. 4th was the same size as the first.

TwoBlueFish · 06/04/2019 13:53

DS1 just under 7lbs at 35 weeks
DS2 9.5lbs at 38 weeks
