Son shown his willy during lesson

Today after school the teacher has told me that my 5 year old son had pulled down his pants and showed his willy to the class during PE and tomorrow he will be missing out on his morning break time surely this behaviour should be dealt with on the day it happens? (PE was the last lesson)

@Claw01 thank you that sounds a lot better!

Nubbin this little boy has additional needs..

Claw01 · 05/04/2019 22:21

The sheet the school provide, even I was Confused naked, having no clothes on, having baths, going to the toilet, rest rooms! Wtf has that got to do with pulling your shorts down during PE!

The school don’t seem to have much understanding of SEN or disabilities. Hopefully the EHCP will bring better understanding or a change of school.

nutsfornutella · 05/04/2019 22:59

The punishment was harsh for a first offense. I think it could have been dealt with by dismissing him from class last or keeping him in 5 minutes at break (at that age it's
ages) Many kids stop doing it at 3ish but my kids have reported the odd boy doing this at much older than 5 so it's not uncommon at all.

If he was repeatedly doing it then my answer would be different but most kids have an embarrassing PE story to tell. My ds2 remembers forgetting to put pants on one week and having to keep his polo on until the last minute while praying that nobody noticed.

nutsfornutella · 05/04/2019 23:02

I hope that it wasn't an accidental flash that he's been punished for. I can imagine many young children accidentally pulling down the waistband of their trousers (or skirt) and underwear simultaneously.

Samcro · 05/04/2019 23:04

OP please go onto the SN topic. there are so man posters there that will really get what you are trying to say.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 06/04/2019 00:09

The sheet your son has been given is lazy and clearly very quickly downloaded from the internet.

A lot of irrelvent infornation

Which is ashame as thete is more appriate infomation

Or they could have made their own. I make a lot of "easy read" information for people with autism and learning disablities. I was going to try and make one using Claws wording when i was googling the pictures to use. I came across this which is free you can sign up to twinkl for free i know its not exactly what you were looking for bit you could crop the pictures and use slightly different wording and put in the bit about not taking clothes off before the emd of the lesson

www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-c-096--pe-changing-clothes-cards

JuniorAsparagus · 06/04/2019 06:25

Totally agree with Samcro. On the SEN boards there will be s lot of people who have experience of children with SEN.

IncrediblySadToo · 06/04/2019 06:59

Harry

DS pulling his shorts/pants down in the way he did is NOT a big deal and they shouldn’t have made it into one. He has SEN and he’s only just out of nappies. He obviously did it for a reason & that was not willy waving ‘for a laugh’. I do NOT like the sound of your school one bit even if DS didn’t have SEN or hadn’t just come out of nappies their response to something 5 years old do is massively OTT.

They should have just asked him if he needed to go to the toilet and if not just ask him to pull them back up.

It’s NOT a big deal, at 5, SEN or not.

JuniorAsparagus · 06/04/2019 07:11

Hurray Incredibly sad the voice of reason.
I posted very early on about just matter of factly telling him to put it away, and then the thread went a bit strange and I wondered how the world could have changed so much. I retired from teaching 10 years ago, but we certainly wouldn't have made a big issue about it with a five year old.
The less of an issue made of it the better I think.

Harryy · 06/04/2019 07:44

there is a few things I don't agree with what the school do but if I take him out then where do I get the help?

I can't say to much to the school I've already been banned once for disagreeing with the teacher and swearing at her

OP posts:
NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 06/04/2019 08:21

Sorry what? You got bannee from the school for simply disagreeinv witb the teacher??? Swearing at her no thats not on and you reakly really shouodnt have done that and been agressive. But merely disagreeing with her???!!!

The school should be listening to oarents concerns not just of SEN kids but all kids.

People arent saying remove him from schooling all together. Although many autistic children do benifit from being home schooled away from the over stimulation that bright lights, lots of childeen, colourful displays and noise can bring. But this school really dont seem set up for any special need child. The lazy downloaded american sheet, the punishment for a first time insident instead of a clear instruction just to pull his pants back up, and now you say theh arent listening to you. There must he another school local to you that you can apply gor an inyear transfer too, go and look round, ask to speak to the SEND co ordinator, ask wether they use pecs or widgit or wether they've got experience of tjese communcation methods. You'll then get a feel for a school that might be better suited for son.

Harryy · 06/04/2019 09:03

They won't change him if he had a accident at school (poo) and then I'm having to go in and clean him up which he's made to stand in the bathroom I was told that they don't have 2 members off staff that can change him, it's not something they deal with ect ect. After telling them about the ERIC website they still called me in to change him. Lucky this has only happened 3 times

OP posts:
NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 06/04/2019 09:47

I think the changing thing is a quite common policy in schools unfortantly same with meducation parents are called in to adminster anti biotics these days.

Does he have a 1-1?

LuvSmallDogs · 06/04/2019 09:53

Harryy, this school sounds awful. How cruel to leave a child sitting in poo because he has SN and has to wait for his parent! I’m not surprised you have sworn at them TBH, think I’d do the same. How are you meant to respect and foster in your child respect for staff who needlessly punish and leave them sat in their own waste?

Stinkytoe · 06/04/2019 10:02

Gosh, my school does antibiotics if needed, changes wet or dirty children, we’re even asked to leave spare socks and pants in their PE kit just in case!

Claw01 · 06/04/2019 10:16

harryy start looking at other schools. As part of the EHCP process, you get to name the school you want him to attend.

How far along in the EHCP process are you? Have the LA agreed to assess?

My son changed schools during the EHCP process as his school could not meet needs.

Harryy · 06/04/2019 10:22

They don't really have an excuse to not change him though which is what is said on the ERIC website but they still disagree with me

I'd see if I can have a meeting after the Easter holidays

@Harryy I’ve reported your post as I don’t think you wanted to share the photo!

Claw01 · 06/04/2019 10:30

Technically by not changing him, they are saying they cannot meet needs ie they don’t have the staff.

You could quote disability discrimination, equality act etc. However, personally I would focus on finding a school who can meet needs and are more understanding and his EHCP.

Claw01 · 06/04/2019 10:45

www.ipsea.org.uk/what-happens-in-an-ehc-needs-assessment

Might be helpful to familiarise yourself with the EHCP process. As the LA are not always transparent about it.

For example lots of LA’s will not inform parents that they will have request SALT and OT assessments themselves, otherwise the LA will not bother!

There is also a 20 week deadline which lots of LA’s do not adhere to,

Harryy · 06/04/2019 10:46

@Stinkytoe cheers no that wasn't meant to off be shared

@Claw01 i suppose so! I don't know a lot when it comes to school my wife was the one who dealt with all that with the girls

OP posts:
CustardySergeant · 06/04/2019 11:05

Claw01 I am puzzled by the last thing on your list:- "We do not pull shorts down until we are back in the classroom".

Claw01 · 06/04/2019 11:28

Custard it was just a vague example, off the top of my head, without knowing precise details of OP’s son or his level of understanding.

I assume they get changed in the classroom for PE, it would then be appropriate to pull his shorts down to get changed.

Obviously any language used should be totally unambiguous in general.

Maybe better worded along the lines

After PE we go to the classroom
We pull our shorts down
We put our trousers on

I left it to the OP to play around with and add/delete as appropriate.
