Two weeks holiday and 2 bank holidays means only 10 days of school in April. AIBU to be annoyed?

OP posts:

Mine at an independent and only have 4 days of school in April!
No early morning school run - love it!

Sarahrellyboo1987 · 05/04/2019 18:20

YABVU. School isn’t a childcare system.

saraclara · 05/04/2019 18:21

Did you not know about school holidays before you had kids? The number of them and the number of days they comprise is the same every year. I don't get your issue with this year's.

NorthernBirdAtHeart · 05/04/2019 18:25

Some of the responses here are hilarious!

But in all seriousness, I hear you OP. I work FT and get 25 days holiday a year, which have to try and cover all school holidays and get a family holiday in. You just have to plan ahead, there are plenty of holiday clubs.

You have had a whole 12 months to prepare however... Grin

Cockadoodledooo · 05/04/2019 18:27

DSis's school have the week either side of the bank holiday weekend, meaning they're at school 12 days in April. Also means the next holiday is a ridiculous 4 weeks away and shouldn't be called 'half' term because the subsequent bit is over 7 weeks

LarryGreysonsDoor · 05/04/2019 18:28

There are 190 teaching days in the school year.
How they are distributed changes.

ForalltheSaints · 05/04/2019 18:30

Only 10 days of bad parking, congested roads at 845am- hooray (for those without school age children)!

Not really. The dates change a little bit but on the whole they are pretty standard. You always have two weeks in April (which may overlap a bit with the end of March if Easter is early). And August is always off (in England).

chocolateworshipper · 05/04/2019 18:38

It's a Human Rights issue.

I'll leave you to decide whether I mean it's against your human rights, or whether I mean that your child has a right to a break from school.

CoffeeDeprivation · 05/04/2019 18:43

havingtochangeusernameagain, not always. Mine have one week off in April and two between May and June.

riceuten · 05/04/2019 18:52

Well, it depends why you are angry, and whether you're one of those dreary parents that thinks

a) school teachers 'have it easy'
b) I mean, they only work 6 hours a day, and leave at 3pm
c) And they get 12 weeks leave a year
d) I mean, it's not a PROPER job, is it ? They don't MAKE anything
e) Why doesn't the school operate 48 weeks a year ? (We actually had a mum suggest this last year)

Beautga · 05/04/2019 18:54

Private school have a month

DantesInferno · 05/04/2019 18:58

what are you actually annoyed about??

Badouchka1 · 05/04/2019 19:10

Yes! YABU, as someone who works within various schools, I get to spend time with my own children and hand yours back for a bit!

Offred2 · 05/04/2019 19:22

Maybe write an angry letter to Jesus, getting crucified at this time of year was rather inconsiderate!? Didn’t he think of the effect on school calendars in 2000 years time?

bethg21 · 05/04/2019 19:25

I really don't see the issue lol

AdamAntsCrackpotHistory · 05/04/2019 19:28

Stir 'em up and run away... Really OP, anyone would think you're actually the Daily Fail....

TSSDNCOP · 05/04/2019 19:33

some private schools probably have less than 10 days in April

Yes, but if like DS’s school they start school at 8.25 and finish at 4.15 every day they’re putting the time in, plus we knee it when we signed on the line.

PMSL at the Gregorian Calendar comment.

celticprincess · 05/04/2019 19:34

You see as a teacher there are rarely bank holidays that make a difference as they tend to fall in most of the holidays. And then, I only work part time and don’t work Mondays so never even benefit from them! 😂

My kids are fuming that my birthday falls on Easter Day this year and they seek to think I will get chocolate eggs and presents!!

Dontbesogross · 05/04/2019 19:41

I have just got home from work (in a school) and I’m exhausted. The kids are too.
Take some time off with your kids - try not to think too much about August when all us teachers spend our holidays planning for September sit on our arses doing sweet nothing for a whole 6 weeks

makingmyway10 · 05/04/2019 19:58

My DD is at independent school and we have 6 school days in April. We broke up today and go back on 30th! Its absolutely fine. looking forward to spending time with her.

nuxe1984 · 05/04/2019 20:12

It's irrelevant when the holidays are … legally every state school has to provide 190 days of education.

DantesInferno · 05/04/2019 20:15

And then, I only work part time and don’t work Mondays so never even benefit from them! 😂

But you have a pro rated allowance, so you do

celticprincess · 05/04/2019 20:28

@DantesInferno. I’m not on about the money. It’s about feeling the extra time off on those bank holidays. Was a bit tongue in cheek though.

flameycakes · 05/04/2019 20:29

My lads off for two weeks, back in school for 4 days and then off for Easter weekend, I was totally confused at the school calendar, wrongly thought it was a misprint x
