Two weeks holiday and 2 bank holidays means only 10 days of school in April. AIBU to be annoyed?

YABU, yes.

3out · 04/04/2019 19:39

@JAMMFYesPlease we don’t break up until after the first week of July. So, not only do we not get all of August off but we also don’t get all of July off! Shocking.

WickedGoodDoge · 04/04/2019 19:40

You’re lucky to have 10 days. Grin DS was in the first 2.5 days in April and will be back in 24-26 April then straight into his Highers. He would have much rather had an extra 4.5 days this year running up to exam leave, but there’s nothing he can do about it.

CaptainBrickbeard · 04/04/2019 19:42

Ok, could someone come on to tell us all that the school holidays are based around the harvest and thus totally outdated and schools should run 9-5 48 weeks a year so children could prepare for the ‘real world’ and then suggest that INSET days are scheduled in the holidays instead and also fail to understand that teachers aren’t paid for all of the holidays and finish work at 3pm every day and could we get it all out of the way here on this thread and then not have to rerun it 70 billion times in June when the penny drops for some parents that they will have to look after their own children for a few weeks? Thanks.

Springwalk · 04/04/2019 19:43

DDs will be in school for 2 days in April.
0 days in July
0 days in August

Babuchak · 04/04/2019 19:45

so children could prepare for the ‘real world’

the lazy git shouldn't even be at school anyway, they should be earning their keep in factories and mines like the good old days. That's how you prepare responsible adults for today's world, not prancing around at school.

JAMMFYesPlease · 04/04/2019 19:46

@3out ah must be different for different parts of Scotland. My friends and family around Dundee and the Glasgow areas break up last week of June.

quizqueen · 04/04/2019 19:50

You knew what Easter holidays were going to be like before you decided to have children. How did you know?- because you went to school yourself!!!!!

Deadringer · 04/04/2019 19:51

I hope Jesus has a really good think about what he has done. It would be much more convenient for parents if he could have died and risen again during the summer holidays.

isabellerossignol · 04/04/2019 19:52

In my part of the country there is no school at all in July or August. And kids usually finish school at 2pm for the first three years. And to top it all off, holidays are set by individual schools so if you have children at two different schools they'll probably have different holidays.

And no one bats an eyelid at it Grin

DonPablo · 04/04/2019 19:53

Yay. Can't wait. Not a teacher, but I bet they're ecstatic

BikeRunSki · 04/04/2019 19:54

You know there’s 2 bank holidays and a half term break in May too don’t you? If you are really lucky you child’s school will be closed for polling in 2 May as well.

bliminy · 04/04/2019 19:55

Mine are at school for 17 days in April.

OTOH they're home for all of June, July and August weeps

CloserIAm2Fine · 04/04/2019 19:57

YABU

You get the same number of school days as always, they’ve just fallen so fewer are in April this year. As is blatantly obvious to everyone.

I bet you had a proper tantrum the year we had an extra bank holiday in April just after Easter because of the royal wedding!

pouraglasshalffull · 04/04/2019 19:58

I'm a teacher, just coming to the end of the first week off, next week off too then we have 4 days off, and it's great and its crap too

Great- I really needed this break, the first day off in the holidays I became really ill, just because I was overworked and the first moment I stopped it caught up with me, today is the first day I've felt remotely ok.

Crap- I teach a lot of GCSE and A Level classes, and it's cutting down on a lot of revision time which they're already short on. However, if your not in GCSE or A Level, it's just extra time off so be happy about it!!

LemonRedwood · 04/04/2019 19:59

I bet they're ecstatic

I am Grin

Especially as I'm not going back to teaching after Easter. And I've managed to get myself a job that is term-time only so I still get all the holidays. Interestingly, the same people who used to brand me "lazy" for having a term-time only (in theory) job as a teacher are now calling me "lucky". Funny, that.

Malope · 04/04/2019 20:01

Wow you are NOT ready to hear about August.

CustardOmlet · 04/04/2019 20:05

We have 12 days of school, hope you're all jealous!

Ithinkmycatisevil · 04/04/2019 20:07

OMG! You should definitely complain to the school about it! how dare they take so much time off in one month. 🤦‍♀️

StrawberryDaiquiriPlease · 04/04/2019 20:10

The children are really tired of school at this point and they need a break.

PickAChew · 04/04/2019 20:14

Newsflash. Easter happens every year.

PickAChew · 04/04/2019 20:17

Just to add, I've got over 3 weeks of kids off school, with them at school in different counties. Much as I dread the holidays, it suits me fine as there's only 4 days of them both off school with DH at work.

killpop · 04/04/2019 20:19

gingerbiscuits · 04/04/2019 20:19

Why on earth are you so annoyed??!! Schools have closed for 2 weeks holiday around Easter for YEARS - no matter what the month & the 2 Bank Holidays have been there since who knows when!!

gingerbiscuits · 04/04/2019 20:20

Brace yourself....they don't go to school in August AT ALL!!!!????!!!!
