10 days of school in April

Two weeks holiday and 2 bank holidays means only 10 days of school in April. AIBU to be annoyed?

OP posts:

Our's get 16 days at school - state comprehensive but part of a trust so they set their own holidays. Our kids break up next Friday (15th) and go back on the Tuesday immediately after holiday Monday.

They also only get five weeks in the summer (they go back around the 28th/29th August)

BUT they get two weeks in February and October half terms which is great because one of those weeks at each half term isn't 'normal' school holiday time so holiday destinations are cheaper.

DishingOutDone · 04/04/2019 19:07

Aw OP we're just messin wit ya!

edwinbear · 04/04/2019 19:07

My DC only have 5 days, they broke up last Friday and go back 24th April. DS will spend 4 of those on a residential trip. I’d not given it any thought until I opened this thread. Doesn’t concern me in the slightest.

Tumbleweed101 · 04/04/2019 19:08

I’m looking forward to it. Love the kids being off school and no rushing about. Mine are a bit older now though so I don’t need childcare as older siblings help out.

Got to love mumsnet, no ones allowed to be annoyed 😠

Nonsense! But OP hasn't said what/why they are annoyed!

StarlingsEverywhere · 04/04/2019 19:18

It is a bit stupid that in some counties, they break up tomorrow, have two weeks off, then go back for four days before having a long Easter weekend, then another four day week. It would be better if the two weeks encompassed the Easter weekend, as far as parents having to take time off goes. Otherwise it’s 10 days of leave to cover, rather than 8.

Canshopwillshop · 04/04/2019 19:20

I can’t wait 😀

RomanyQueen1 · 04/04/2019 19:20

YABU I love my dd being off school, lots lined up to do together.

mclaleli · 04/04/2019 19:22

If they are off next week and the week after they cannot possibly go back for 4 days before Easter weekend. Easter weekend would land at the end of the second week.

BackforGood · 04/04/2019 19:22

Can you clarify what you are annoyed about?
As it is difficult to know if YABU or not if we don't know that.

StarlingsEverywhere · 04/04/2019 19:23

Oh you’re right! DS isn’t at school yet so I hadn’t worked it out properly.

Mapril · 04/04/2019 19:24

Broken Britain Sad

Youngandfree · 04/04/2019 19:25

I’m fuming because I live in a Ireland and the school holidays start the end of June!! How very dare they!??! And the school day finishes at DD’s school at 2.20 😮😮

IncrediblySadToo · 04/04/2019 19:26

some private schools probably have less than 10 days in April

Yep. They’re at school a whole 5 days in April.

Love it!

I’d Homeschool if the little buggers didn’t enjoy being with their friends so much.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 04/04/2019 19:26

Ha!! Do people like you really count school days? And get annoyed that their kids get holidays? Do you not like them? Or is it teachers that you don't like?

MitziK · 04/04/2019 19:28

Blame Jesus. Or Pontius Pilate. Or the Pope.

It's their fault at the end of the day.

abeautifulmess1234 · 04/04/2019 19:29

Has the OP gone to sleep?

cathay123 · 04/04/2019 19:31

I'm annoyed too as I'm a teacher and have tests coming up. What is more annoying is that several parents are taking their children out of school for a holiday in the four weeks and 2 days we have back at school before half term.

berryhead2013 · 04/04/2019 19:33

What happens in August genuinely asking

AWishForWingsThatWork · 04/04/2019 19:34

YABVVVVU.

Children aren't mini adults; they are children. They need breaks. You need to plan for these breaks when you decide to have children. School is for educating, not childcare.

shaddywaddy · 04/04/2019 19:35

I blame Brexit Grin

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 04/04/2019 19:36

In Ireland we have June, July AND August off in summer!

And our students don't suffer one bit.

3out · 04/04/2019 19:36

“*in some parts of Scotland. Because where we are they are off next week and the week after.”

Yeah, we’re not off yet.

DizzyPhillips · 04/04/2019 19:37

School is for educating, not childcare

Whilst I agree with this in principle it’s not a particularly realistic attitude to have. The fact is that working parents need to attend work and kids need somewhere to go or someone to watch them.

Not so much in terms of Easter hols although I do sympathise with the OP a little. But this line is often trotted out over random snow days etc.

Babuchak · 04/04/2019 19:39

* You might want to sit down before I tell you what happens in August.

The date of Easter in 2019 was known about in 1752 when the Gregorian calendar was introduced in the UK, and school holidays have been broadly the same for at least fifty years.

So you have had plenty of warning.

grin these had me howling!!!
me too! Grin
