To ask what you *really* spend on your weekly shop

I swear I am not being goady, and completely understand that many are genuinely on a budget... however as someone who does a weekly shop or a good £59 for two people (and I shop in Lidl) plus can’t seem to pop around the petrol garage without spending £30 a few times I am in awe of those who do a family shop for £30 a week. Also, upon seeing the “what’s in your fridge posts” which I loved- would love to be nosy and ask - what do you honestly spend on shopping each week.

On average around £120-£150 per week for a family of 2 adults, 2 children, 2 cats and a dog. We will also go out or get a take away once a week

SimonJT · 31/03/2019 17:45

I have no idea what I spend, which I know is terrible. We’re vegetarians and don’t eat dairy, so while I don’t spend on meat etc I do spend a hefty amount on fresh food, nuts etc.

Oysterbabe · 31/03/2019 17:45

About £75 for everything, including nappies and cleaning products. That's for 2 adults and a 3 and 1 year old.

Writersblock2 · 31/03/2019 17:46

About £80 per week for two adults and three dogs. We shop at Tesco and Waitrose.

isseywithcats · 31/03/2019 17:46

i go shopping once a fortnight and spend around £90 in Aldis and around £30 in Iceland, thats all food, cat food, cleaning materials loo rolls, then top up is bread and milk at asda so around £4 a week, and i get whichever spreadable butter is on offer at asda around £5 a fortnight so around £135 a fortnight thats for two adults and four cats

YahBasic · 31/03/2019 17:47

Two of us, DH a big meat eater and just an eater in general. We spend about 50-80 in Sainsbury’s with no top up shops.

BottleOfJameson · 31/03/2019 17:47

Spend about 70-90 a week on food drlivery then another 60-80 a week popping to the local shop. 2 adults and 2 kids.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 31/03/2019 17:47

About £100 a week. 2 adults, 2 year old and 8 month old.

That's not including nappies either.

Nnnnnineteen · 31/03/2019 17:50

Mine varies . It is fairly self limiting in that we don't eat meat, I don't drink spirits, only the odd bottle of wine and I don't buy ready meals. On the flip side of that, I also have some weeks where i do not shop at all and we eat out every night. Over a month or so, it's probably £100 a week for the 2 of us.

Rubusfruticosus · 31/03/2019 17:50

£30-£40 a week for an adult and a teen.

DontFundHate · 31/03/2019 17:50

About £100 a week for 2 adults and 2 small children, includes toiletries and cleaning stuff. We also get one takeaway a week. I think we spend too much

SimonJT · 31/03/2019 17:51

Just checked my ocado, I’m spending about £80 a week, that’s without topup shops or our wednesday and saturday meal out. That’s a lot more than I expected.

motherheroic · 31/03/2019 17:52

I spend £70 a month. I live alone.

gingajewel · 31/03/2019 17:53

I do a big shop in Aldi and spend about £80 a week but I think I spend about £20 a week in Tesco on bits!

BlodwynBludd · 31/03/2019 17:55

£90 per week. Family of three and a dog and two cats and that's for everything. Shop at aldi and top up at Tesco.

picklemepopcorn · 31/03/2019 17:55

3 adults and a raw fed dog

About £40/week from Tesco.
I get my meat from a farm shop, so £90 every six months or so.
Occasional trips to Aldi or Lidl round the edges.

Probably averages out at £50 a week.

barkinatthemoon · 31/03/2019 17:57

We're happy if we manage to get it under £100 pw, but most weeks there's something "expensive" that we've ran out of which pushes it over (dishwasher tabs for example) 2 adults, 2 kids (4&2), 3 dogs and 2 cats. I think we spend way too much, as some families I know do it for a fraction of what we do, but I just don't see how. We certainly don't eat extravagantly or have expensive tastes, so I don't feel like we can really cut back on much. The only thing we probably buy more than most is fruit as the kids love it, so we get through tonnes of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries etc.

April241 · 31/03/2019 17:57

Two adults, two toddlers. Anything from £60 to £80 depending on if there's nappies and wipes or not. We shop at Aldi/Lidl for the most part.

On top of that we'll sometimes do a mid week top up for bread, milk and fruit so could be an extra £20 or £30.

Realistically we're anything from £60 to £120

Fiveletters · 31/03/2019 17:57

Probably about £120 per week for 5 of us including top up shops (food, most toiletries, cleaning products, nappies)

Flicketyflack · 31/03/2019 17:58

I spend about £100 per week on average @ Sainsburys with another £20 on top up or take away Wink

Four people; two adults, 13 &11 yr old.

20 pints of organic milk included in that- might be better to own a cow 🐄

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 31/03/2019 17:59

£80-£120 so averages at about £100 that includes nappies and occasionally formula (only use for top ups) 2 adults 1 baby and a very fussy cat. I could do it cheaper and have in the past but don't have to now. We are lucky to be able to eat lots of fresh fruit veg, and higher welfare meat and fish where possible

OrdinarySnowflake · 31/03/2019 17:59

Two adults, two kids, about £150-170 a week if I add in all the little top ups.

I know we could spend less, but we like nice food, and would rather compromise elsewhere than food quality.

SoyDora · 31/03/2019 18:00

About £130 per week. 2 adults, 2 young DC (baby too young to eat yet!)
