To ask what you *really* spend on your weekly shop

I swear I am not being goady, and completely understand that many are genuinely on a budget... however as someone who does a weekly shop or a good £59 for two people (and I shop in Lidl) plus can’t seem to pop around the petrol garage without spending £30 a few times I am in awe of those who do a family shop for £30 a week. Also, upon seeing the “what’s in your fridge posts” which I loved- would love to be nosy and ask - what do you honestly spend on shopping each week.

We budget £320 for 4 wks, usually get a monthly shop at payday for all the things that will last over the month then top up each week on fresh foods and the fruit and veg, so usually about £45 a week for DH and I plus 2 dogs and a cat

Stompythedinosaur · 31/03/2019 18:23

We spend £100 a week for two adults and two kids and about £100 a month on pet food (one dog, three cats, two guinea pigs, two rats and a duck).

If I don't keep an eye on it we can easily sneak up to around the £125 a week level. If we are having a tight month I can keep it down to £80 a week, but that often relies on us using up supplies in the freezer.

Quertymcquerty · 31/03/2019 18:23

£200-250 a week. I know it’s too much blah blah.
I am lazy and shop in M&S because I am bored with cooking.

JoinTheDots · 31/03/2019 18:24

2 adults and 2 children, shop at Waitrose. I meal plan, 4 weekly cycle, so it differs from week to week, but it is always between £90 and 130 (large variation due mainly to cleaning products, alcohol and weeks which are more expensive meat heavy - this week we had tuna steaks and it costs over £16 for that meal alone!).

Brian9600 · 31/03/2019 18:24

£250? That includes quite a lot of money on wine, food for 4, all household stuff plus a cat and a dog. It’s a silly amount and I should spend less.

PanamaPattie · 31/03/2019 18:24

DH and I spend approximately £200 per week - food, wine, household etc. at Sainsbury’s, milk bill, Aldi Thursday top up.

Quertymcquerty · 31/03/2019 18:25

Blush mine doesn’t include wine

Apileofballyhoo · 31/03/2019 18:25

€100 a week tops. That includes all household products, and toothpaste. Mostly Aldi, a bit in Tesco and Lidl. 2 adults and an 11 year old. Everything gluten free or it might be a little less.

Cannyhandleit · 31/03/2019 18:25

£100pw 2 adults &2 kids, that's including nappies and wipes for both children and cleaning products! We have 1 take away a week!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/03/2019 18:25

I spend £100-130 a week, but that doesn't include alcohol which Dh usually gets separately, or any top-up shops. We are two adults, 1 teen, 1 6y and 1 3yo. We rarely get take away or eat food out though. I probably spend £6 in coffee shops each week, Dh maybe the same.

I do all the 'right' things- I write a list and a menu and stick to it, I freeze portions, I very rarely throw food away, we don't buy branded stuff, we all eat the same for at least 6 main meals a week, and we don't buy luxury brands (I shop at Lidl and Tesco and a local grocer/market for veg), plus I cook from scratch most meals too, so I honestly do not know how people can shop for £50 a week for a family. If I did a £50 shop on a Monday I'd be back on Wednesday buying bread and milk and fruit to see us through the week!

Hiddenaspie1973 · 31/03/2019 18:25

Around 45 per week. Aldi or Lidl.
2 adults, 1 12 y.o and a cat.

YouWinAgain · 31/03/2019 18:26

There's just me and DD aged 3 (plus a cat) and I easily spend £50 a week in Tesco then another £10-15 on top up shops in Aldi, can't seem to do it for less no matter how hard I try and that's with DD eating her main meal 3x a week at Nursery and then EOW having all her meals at her dads.

I'm not even buying anything ridiculous; meat, fresh fruit, frozen veg and then tins of things like beans.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 31/03/2019 18:26

£35 a week or less on a grocery delivery for two of us. Probably a £10 a week on lunches between us at school/work.
Top up shop on Sunday of another £10 and wine for me another £5-£10.

Youngandfree · 31/03/2019 18:26

Honestly I don’t have a budget but on average I spend €60 per week. Sometimes more, sometimes less

BottomleyPottsSpots2 · 31/03/2019 18:27

Approx £140 per week (Waitrose delivery). 2 adults, 3 children. Toilet/ kitchen roll and similar bulk-buy stuff bought via Amazon prime though - approx £20 every 6 months. Maybe £5 to £10 top up per week (veg, milk). Total includes a couple of lunches bought out per week (me, DH is more disciplined). I know that we could spend a lot less but food is one of our few indulgences (we barely drink and work commitments mean that we haven't been on holiday for a decade).

Youngandfree · 31/03/2019 18:27

That’s for 2 adults and 2 dc

poglets · 31/03/2019 18:27

About €80 a week for a family of four. That includes toiletries, breakfasts, packed lunches and dinners.

FoxFoxSierra · 31/03/2019 18:27

If I'm being really careful I can get away with 55-60 per week for 2 adults and 2 children but I don't often have time to shop around for the best deals so usually it's about £80 per week

BottomleyPottsSpots2 · 31/03/2019 18:28

Oh yes, dd1 is coeliac so that contributes at least £10 to each bill.

Skincaresos · 31/03/2019 18:29

Shop at aldi mainly, £80 a week for five of us. I think we eat fairly well and get treats etc. We don't drink much though so rarely buy alcohol

BollocksToBrexit · 31/03/2019 18:30

Approx £150 per week for 2 adults, a 5 year old and 2 cats. We don't usually do any top up shops and we eat really well on it.

Bambamber · 31/03/2019 18:34

About £60 a week for 2 adults, a toddler and a raw fed dog. About £10 is on dairy free products alone.

Toilet roll we buy separately from who gives a crap, one box lasts at least 6 months.

Toiletries I buy separate when on offer, so probably spend £15 every couple of months

HouseplantInvasion · 31/03/2019 18:35

We spend about £130 a week on Tesco delivery (no top-ups) for 2 adults and 2 kids. The dog is about £30 a month on top. I know we could get it cheaper but I love not having to go to the shops, and I include quite a few treat things in there (eg at least a few Easter eggs each week at the mo Smile).

CountFosco · 31/03/2019 18:35

2 adults, 3DC (2 on the cusp of puberty). £15 per week on our veg box, ~£100 on a case of wine a month, ~£150 in the supermarket a week. Quite a bit at the butchers every week as well. We have a high income so I don't really watch what I spend but we get through so much food it's ridiculous, we eat about 200g cheddar a day (so that's 3-4 big packets a week), 3 bags of apples a week, etc etc. I remember my Mum saying going shopping was embarassing when we were teens (I was one of 4) because of all the bananas she had to buy and I'm beginning to realise what she meant!

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 31/03/2019 18:36

40/50 quid for 2 adults and a seven year old normally.
