To ask what you *really* spend on your weekly shop

I swear I am not being goady, and completely understand that many are genuinely on a budget... however as someone who does a weekly shop or a good £59 for two people (and I shop in Lidl) plus can’t seem to pop around the petrol garage without spending £30 a few times I am in awe of those who do a family shop for £30 a week. Also, upon seeing the “what’s in your fridge posts” which I loved- would love to be nosy and ask - what do you honestly spend on shopping each week.

Probably about £200 a week. Never worked it out. Blush

Islands81 · 02/04/2019 00:07

£75 per week for me, 2 dc and my bf who is here probably 2-3 nights a week. Mostly in Lidl but Morrison’s for the bits that Lidl haven’t got.

FedUpParent · 02/04/2019 00:57

About £40per week for 1 adult and 2 children under six + 1 cat

That includes nappies, cat food, nursery bait, etc. But once a month I need to top up cleaning supplies and one of the shops can end up about £70

I also do top up shops of £10 (for things the kids wipe the fridge of) every couple of days and we get a takeaway maybe once a week

FedUpParent · 02/04/2019 00:58

Oh we’re veggie so don’t spend on meat but our dairy free stuff and quorn can be more expensive Confused

FedUpParent · 02/04/2019 00:58

And shop in ASDA

Seniorschoolmum · 02/04/2019 01:23

One adult, one child - £45 excluding petrol.

Why buy anything in a petrol station except fuel. They are expensive for anything else?

Raspberrytruffle · 02/04/2019 02:27

Family of 4 here, 2 dogs, 2 cats. We go to our local butchers once a month and spend about £50/60 on meat which lasts the month, we shop at Sainsbury's as I find the quality better and the fruit and vegetables last forever. So most weeks we spend about £50/60 per week but once a month I do a big shop which also includes cleaning products, clothes detergent, shampoo the pricey stuff and it comes to about £130/150

Raspberrytruffle · 02/04/2019 02:28

Also forgot to add we get a huge sack of dogs food for £25.00 which lasts the month and a weekly sack of cat food for a few pounds from pets at home

roundligament · 02/04/2019 02:56

At least 220 a week for 2 adults and a 2 nearly three year old but we drink only organic cow milk and the 2 year old drinks goats milk (lots of it)
And then we eat a lot of fresh fruit like berries sable grapes and melon
That includes things like washing up liquid detergent for laundry and pet food as well though
Normally buy 2 shops on ocado

We eat out or get a takeaway much less then once a month so over all our food bill is less per month now that we won't go out even though groceries are probably an extra hundred pounds per week since having my son

sam221 · 02/04/2019 03:13

I spend about £80per week with Ocado, for just me. I do order a box of chocolates, weekly in that shop. I could shop cheaper but currently this is working well for me. Many many years ago I had to watch what I spent, be frugal and yellow sticker wait, so now I get things based on preference.

Sorry I know its been a few weeks but had to come back to this. Raspberrytruffle has done exactly what I said further up the thread. Their post reads like they spend £50/60 pound per week ...apart from this and that. So £60 at the butchers per month , £60 for 3 weeks of the month then a big monthly shop of £150 plus £25 per month dog food and £10 per month catfood. Add this times 12 divide by 52 comes to almost £100 per week and then we are not sure if all lunches/take outs etc are included so not a real spend at all IMO

mamaduckbone · 20/04/2019 22:36

About £70 on a big weekly shop for 2 adults, a strapping teen dustbin and a 9yo, plus at least £20 on top up bits and pieces - milk, bread, eggs etc (we can get through 2 dozen eggs a week at the moment Shock)

NCforthis2019 · 20/04/2019 22:38

£100-150 and sometimes a bit more. Waitrose, nappies and alcohol included. 2 a 2 k. My son has allergies so food is more expensive.
