To ask what you *really* spend on your weekly shop

I swear I am not being goady, and completely understand that many are genuinely on a budget... however as someone who does a weekly shop or a good £59 for two people (and I shop in Lidl) plus can’t seem to pop around the petrol garage without spending £30 a few times I am in awe of those who do a family shop for £30 a week. Also, upon seeing the “what’s in your fridge posts” which I loved- would love to be nosy and ask - what do you honestly spend on shopping each week.

We do a big freezer shop every two months which costs about 100-120. Then we do a fridge a cupboard shop every week to two weeks costs about 40-50 that's two adults two kids

voddiekeepsmesane · 31/03/2019 20:03

£140ish a week 2 adults plus teen DS so 3 adults really. This includes ALL meals lunches included. ALL personal toiletries and cleaning products. Too many times I have seen on these types of thread people saying they only spend £60/80 a week ...forgetting to add the weekly take out or the lunches bought at work or the top up shop midweek etc etc etc Hmm

Elphame · 31/03/2019 20:04

About £50 in supermarket, another £5 on doorstep milk delivery, £14 for organic veg box and another £15 on fresh meat for the dog.

There are 2 of us.

updownleftrightstart · 31/03/2019 20:04

I just checked my CC and it was £365 this month so about £85 a week.
That includes nappies/wipes, cat food and alcohol (there was a lot of alcohol this month) but doesn't include us buying lunch 3 days a week at work.

Longdistance · 31/03/2019 20:06

About £80 a week and this includes two bottles of wine and top up shop. Family of four. Dds 7 and 9.

Lidl shop usually, and the pantry is full as is the freezer, so we won’t starve Blush

Piewife · 31/03/2019 20:12

We spend about £70-80 on the main shop each week then £10-20 top ups. A bit less if we get the chance to go to Lidl but that is rare, it's mostly Tesco delivery. That's all food and cleaning products, toiletries etc.

2 adults, 2 young DC (one in nappies) and a cat.

The children eat meals at nursery a few times a week. DH and I take lunches to work so that's included in the above.

We could definitely cut down a bit if we tried, but no desire to. A big part of the cost is fruit and fresh meat.

Harleyisme · 31/03/2019 20:15

Around £100 a week for all food toiletries and cat things.
Its £70 in aldi and £30 in tesco for the wheat and dairy free things for the 4 year old. Theres 5 of us 2 adults 14 year old 5 year old 4 year old and 2 cats.

Dippypippy1980 · 31/03/2019 20:17

😂everyone has a cat

MrsJBaptiste · 31/03/2019 20:19

£100 in Asda and £50 top ups in Lidl / Tesco - 2 adults, 2 kids (12 & 14)

This includes all our packed lunches and DH's evening meals when he's on nights. We like a drink too so a weekly shop often includes a good few beers and a couple of bottles of wine.

torthecatlady · 31/03/2019 20:25

We spent £50 in Tesco today (mostly cupboard stuff, tins, juices and cleaning supplies) includes a bottle of baileys for a gift), then somehow managed to spend another £40 in Sainsbury's Hmm Note... never take family shopping again!

Normally we spend about £50-60 a week (not including cat food). We buy a lot of reduced stuff and freeze it.

2 adults, one dc and two cats.

YesQueen · 31/03/2019 20:27

£40-60 for me and a cat. The cat eats grain free food so more expensive, and it's more towards £60 if I need washing powder/loo roll etc etc

Mummyshark2019 · 31/03/2019 20:28

£150 a week

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 31/03/2019 20:35

£60 Ocado/Tesco plus £10ish top up.Family of 3.

VioletCharlotte · 31/03/2019 20:42

Me, 2 older teens and a dog. It varies from week to week. This week was pay day and I needed loads. £80 in Asda on food. £30 in Home Bargains on cleaning stuff and toiletries. £13 in Aldi (extras to take to Mums for Mother's Day. £65 for dog food (5weeks). But for the rest of the month I'll spend £40/£50 per week.

Sparklesocks · 31/03/2019 20:44

£60-65 p/w for 2 adults in Tesco.
We could probably spend less but eat quite well and like our indulgences.

mindutopia · 31/03/2019 20:47

About £160 ish a week. This includes all food for 4 of us (I buy dinner for myself on the way home 3 days a week but otherwise all 3 meals a day for 4 people). Including all household stuff, cleaning supplies, plus about 4 bottles of wine a week ( more if boozy family are visiting).

zukiecat · 31/03/2019 21:39

dippyhippy

Here's one of mine Smile

zukiecat · 31/03/2019 21:40

Oh didn't work Shock

crispysausagerolls · 31/03/2019 21:41

150£ for me, a 8 month old baby and DH who never eats at home during the week. I have literally no bloody idea how I spend that much - we have a dog but I buy his food once a month.

crispysausagerolls · 31/03/2019 21:41

pourmeanotherglass · 31/03/2019 21:46

About £130 In Sainsbury's for 2 adults and 2 teens. This includes wine, toiletries, packed lunch ingredients, cleaning stuff, snacks as well as main meals. I can do it cheaper if I shop in Aldi.

champagneplanet · 31/03/2019 21:46

£70-£80 per week, that includes nappies, cleaning products and a couple of bottles of wine/beers. I alternate between Aldi and Tesco, do a big shop once a week and then always have to top up mid week to get milk and fresh fruit.

Every now and then i'll spend approx £50 in Home Bargains or B&M as an extra but that brings down my normal spend for that week to about £40.

There are two adults, a child and a toddler in our house.

ivykaty44 · 31/03/2019 21:49

£27 for two of us today... BUT I have a well stocked pantry with store cupboard foods.

I stock up once every three months for about £200

And then use the greengrocers and supermarket for top up shops, which I only pick up a basket and limit what I buy that way, but most of the time use the greengrocers

The less I actually go to a supermarket the better - they suck you in...

So by dodging a three monthly shop and reducing my visits to supermarket, I have reduced my shopping bill

No more popping in for 2 items and spending £30

I spend between £20-30 per week and £200 every 12 weeks so £560 every 3 months = £46 per week

motortroll · 31/03/2019 21:52

£100-120 a week on family of 5 and cat. We eat out (fast food) once a week too. I spend most on fruit and meat. I could cut it down loads tbh. I might need too once my new mortgage starts....scary figures!!

Allthepinkunicorns · 31/03/2019 21:53

Anywhere between £55-£80 a week it depends on what we fancy really and that's on a family of 3. That's not including the odd take away and top up bread and milk.
