to ask why are we not rioting?

our political system is in chaos....we have a PM who has lost vote after vote...a useless Opposition....no one seems to know what they're doing and if any thread on here is indicative of anything, there is considerable support for no-deal and considerable support for dropping the matter altogether...why are we not rioting? seriously? I don't understand why we are sitting passively by and watching this shower of shite happen/not happen?

Anybody who was actually in the riots a few years back (like me) thinks a lot of what was said about the ethnicity of the instigators was complete bollocks. The thugs smashing up shops for televisions and pushbikes (and trying their damndest to get into the two gun shops within driving distance) down my end of town were white and mostly men in their 30s and would have more in common with the EDL than the DSN. As were the people hanging round the town centre in the afternoon as police were beginning to protect the posh shops, thus leaving the independent traders and residential (mostly social or cheaper rent flats) premises completely unprotected.

I spent that night with the Sky News vulture helicopter broadcasting to all and sundry that my town was The Place To Come For a Bit of Looting, a scared child upstairs with a hockey stick and all the garden implements from the shed and knives out of the kitchen as these white men from around 3-5 miles away (I unfortunately recognised some of them from where I used to live) returning to their nice cars parked outside my house. I saw one black youth go past in the whole night probably because they were concentrated upon the northern parts of the borough where they were mostly stealing bags of rice and guitars to use to smash in shop windows to steal more food.

We do, however, need a heatwave to get a riot. Nobody riots when it's a bit chilly.

There is no protest the populace can make. The go slow drivers were threatened with prosecution. All we can do is vote for a different party at the next election, and we won't actually do that.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/03/2019 22:36

SiL isn't thick at all S1naidSucks. And it was comments like that: thick, racist etc. that fed the Imp in many people in the run up to the referendum. Unlike most of those who voted Leave for that reason, my SiL is honest enough to say it out loud and not pretend that she voted for good reasons. She was fortunate not to lose anyone during the Troubles, but her parents were in the police so her life was very much marked them.

Oakenbeach · 26/03/2019 22:45

.....assumed that the current Brexit deal vote was the EASY part, and that the negotiations following that would be the hard ones

That’s a very good point that i don’t think 90%+ of the public (of which I include myself until quite recently) realise at all! The thought is that once we leave, the job is done and we can’t all breathe a sigh of relief.... when actually the real work would just be starting! Depressing isn’t it.

Of course there is... The huge rally in London being one. There are all sorts of civil disobedience that people could do. I reckon the typical leaver (not all of course) isn’t the type to be mobilised to actually do anything as they are society’s whingers and moaners, who might make a noise but don’t actually care enough to get off their arses and do anything.

S1naidSucks · 26/03/2019 23:06

DioneTheDiabolist, she’s really not sounding any brighter, the more you say about her. Her parents were in the police, but she thought it would be a good idea to vote for something that could reignite the troubles? Or she didn’t like someone saying that leavers were (insert whatever insult offended her), so decided to show them what for, by voting leave? Nope! She hasn’t actually proven that she’s a bright spark.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/03/2019 23:24

If that's what you have taken from my post then you haven't read it or understood it properly.

I think given the very tight Leave win, in the event of a second referendum, Remainers would be none too clever themselves if they discount the impact of the Imp and feed it.

GummyGoddess · 26/03/2019 23:48

I'm sure there will be riots if it does happen once shortages hit. The Remainers will be furious at the Leavers and the government for causing it, the Leavers will be furious at the government for lying to them.

I don't see how there wouldn't be riots, it wouldn't take much, just one or two personal tragedies thrust into the spotlight. On the off chance that does happen, I'm with the preppers and am not planning on leaving the house with my DC until it's over.

Britain is a mess, and it seems the govt, parliament, etc don't care. David Cameron lit the flame, it's only a matter of time before we scream enough is enough. TM has lost it. That was v clear watching yesterday's parliamentary debate...stumbling her words...erring and umming. Michael Gove as PM? Your having a laugh. Useless in one word. We are not moving forward. We are going backward. Grow a backbone TM, admit defeat and let someone else in with more strength to take us forward. Worldwide, we are a joke and the infighting has to stop. We have other issues that need fixed, that have been neglected. The U.K....Great Britain died a long time ago. We have no unity, and nobody ready to take up the gauntlet( in reality they are all too shit scared of the responsibility!) That saddens me. Just stop with the kiddy fighting and realise the shit you are causing for my 3 year old and future generations.....groaaannn. 🙄😐

Alconleigh · 27/03/2019 01:28

The Little Britain pricks who voted Brexit will riot soon enough when they run out of turkey twizzlers. That'll be the EU's fault, obvs.

Decormad38 · 27/03/2019 01:31

I know I work with different people from other countries ( researchers). They are gobsmacked that we don’t. I think we have all been totally dumbed down and Thatcher started that process. We all got too fat and lazy!

TheClitterati · 27/03/2019 01:40

The Cabinet Office got a good stickering on Saturday Grin

Well, police have shoot to kill policies now in most Western countries when it comes to riots etc.

Bullshit

I think you have been misinformed.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/03/2019 07:39

That's simply not true User. Tear gas, water cannon, rubber bullets, stun grenades are used yes, shoot to kill no.

longwayoff · 27/03/2019 08:17

Riot? Are you mad? New series of Line of Duty starting Sunday, far too busy.

longwayoff · 28/03/2019 10:19

Agree mammajay, tom swarbrick is an awful presenter for lbc and should be returned to 10 downing street where they got him from.
