To think the only viable Brexit option now is to revoke A50

Theresa Mays speech last night was a disgrace and will only have hardened MP’s positions - there’s no way her WA will get voted through, even if another vote is allowed.

There is no appetite for No Deal from anyone who understands its consequences so that just leaves revoke.

TM has been the master of saying one thing and doing the complete opposite.

I’m now convinced she’s going to revoke and resign.

Or is that just wishful thinking?

DippyAvocado · 21/03/2019 22:27

It’s all very well blaming TM but in my opinion the buck stops with the EU. All they had to do was give some concessions to David Cameron

Sorry, I know this was upthread but it pisses me off every time I read it. David Cameron was granted almost every concession he asked for. The right-wing press just wasn't satisfied with the concessions so they didn't report it favourably, twistinf the narrative as they've been doing for decades regarding the EU. A big part of this whole mess has been caused by people looking at the headlines without checking the details.

All the concessions David Cameron was granted

    • and are obvious to anyone of normal intelligence with a working knowledge of how our legal and political system works. So yes, you voted for this, and it is all your fault, and I esteem you accordingly.*

What a pompous elitist nasty bigoted shitty way to talk about others. I thought we were supposed to be the bigots - you can’t redefine “intelligence” as “people who share my opinions” by your pathetic sneering.

Anytime · 21/03/2019 22:33

If you think Article 50 should be revoked, sign the petition. It may make no difference but at this point it really is the only voice we have!

Tavannach · 21/03/2019 22:43

If you voted for Brexit of course you voted for this. The difficulties and perils were all discussed at length - and are obvious to anyone of normal intelligence with a working knowledge of how our legal and political system works.

This is how I feel, but I think some people really were deceived by the NHS talk and ambitious self-serving politicians.

Put It To The People.
March assembles Park Lane Saturday 23 March 12 noon for 1pm start. Shorter march for less physically able 12.45pm in Trafalgar Square to be close to the front.
Family friendly, and IMPORTANT.
People's Vote March

BertrandRussell · 21/03/2019 23:12

@badlydrawnperson - what did you think was going to happen?

LateEaster · 21/03/2019 23:38

Bertrand Russell to badly drawn.

What did you think was going to happen?

Perhaps that the referendum went to the leave vote and to make the best of that?

Rather than bitterly savagely attack people whose views are different?

Revoke A50 will damage the Conservative party more than anything else. May will choose no deal before revoke of A50. That way she can say she delivered Brexit all be it the least desirable version.

Another risk of revoke A50 is that it provides good camouflage for terrorists. Bombings could be attributed to angry people who voted leave.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 22/03/2019 02:54

How about we just leave the EU, you know, like we voted for!

I think sometimes remainers should have an IQ test before they are allowed to post.

PizzaCafe2016 · 22/03/2019 03:52

Government is attempting to leave in an orderly manner to minimize the disruption to the UK which makes sense to me.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, as the result of 2016 referendum was to leave then leave it has to be.

lonelyplanetmum · 22/03/2019 04:01

How about the leave posters show how politicians will deliver the alleged benefits of leaving the EU, you know, like they voted for.

lonelyplanetmum · 22/03/2019 04:01

DonaldTwain · 22/03/2019 05:16

Leavers please stop whining about people “attacking” you. Look at where we are. Own your part in it. You have brought us here. Stop blaming politicians. You chose this. Those of us who didn’t are entitled to be angry.

PizzaCafe2016 · 22/03/2019 05:21

Parliament as a whole is to blame as MP's are using Brexit as a means of trying to run down the other parties. Party protection and ratings in the polls seems to be more important than what is the most effective way for UK to leave the EU.

Bluntness100 · 22/03/2019 05:58

The eu have been very clever, and actually just done us a big favour.

They have given us till April 12 to come up with an alternate plan if the deal doesn't get through, thus preventing our own parliament debating this and arguing amongst themselves ad nauseam and causing continuing uncertainty. They have taken control and quite rightly.

If the deal is rejected next week, and I think we have a risk Teresa May will once again try to run the clock down so may try to postpone it as long as possible, then there needs to be a series of indicative votes on what to do.

Lengthy extension, revoke, no deal. That's the three options. The latter already ruled out and will continue to be so.

May will resign if her deal doesn't get through and whatever the result of the indicative votes, either revoke or extend (likely extend as the majority option ) then she will probably do that as her last act as prime minister.

We will then have a leadership contest, and be into a whole new strategy, from second referendum through to general election. So what we now have is a deadline of 12 April for this to be resolved and remove the uncertainty.

As said the concern really is that Teresa May delays her meaningful vote from next week in an attempt to run down the clock. However I think parliament can take control and table a motion to vote on it and force her hand,

I suspect we have three rocky weeks ahead.

Bearbehind · 22/03/2019 06:34

I agree. That has certainly been her MO to date.

Surely she cannot be allowed to do that.

Badlydrawnperson appears to confuse bigotry with exercise of critical faculties, and anger with sneering. If we can’t even use basic concepts and definitions correctly, no wonder we’re in this fucking mess.
Actually, failure to grasp basic concepts is pretty much the whole of the problem.

Figmentofmyimagination · 22/03/2019 06:45

I signed this petition yesterday at about 3pm and I’m still waiting for my confirmatory email. Not in my junk box and nothing wrong with my email address. I bet I’m not the only one.

Oblomov19 · 22/03/2019 06:47

"If you voted for Brexit of course you voted for this. The difficulties and perils were all discussed at length - and are obvious to anyone of normal intelligence with a working knowledge of how our legal and political system works."

I don't agree with that. AT ALL.
I think that's very unfair. I don't believe it was talked about, barely. And certainly not at length.
And what has happened, was NOT predicted, by most.

I didn't see or foresee TM and all her delaying tactics etc. Presumably you think that makes me stupid? Hmm

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/03/2019 06:55

It was talked about but people dismissed it and chose not to listen.

FriendOrFaux · 22/03/2019 06:58

I voted to Leave. Leave was not defined at the time of the Ref, maybe because everyone assumed Remain would win.
We have had a situation for nearly 3 years where the Remain majority Parliament are trying (not very effectively) to implement the Leave vote. Apparently 419 constituencies voted to leave.

Parliament implemented A50 without a plan. How is that the fault of leavers?

Bearbehind · 22/03/2019 06:58

Whilst the specifics may not have been predicted it was entirely obvious that there was no plan for leaving and certainly no plan for anything other than ‘cake and eat it’

So yes, it is Leavers fault.

You voted for the unknown and are now bleating that it didn’t work out how you wanted it to. And that is because what you wanted, whatever that might be, was not on offer.

"If you voted for Brexit of course you voted for this. The difficulties and perils were all discussed at length - and are obvious to anyone of normal intelligence with a working knowledge of how our legal and political system works."

Of course they did. Leavers are not stupid people. They knew they were jeopardising the GFA, they understood they were voting for a small cabal of elite right wing multi-millionaires who have never done anything for the working people, they understood that dropping out of hundreds of agreements was going to be massively complicated and they chose to do it - against the advice of most scientists, academics, businesspeople, Doctors and civil service.

So yeah, they wanted this mess. I hope they appreciate it.

FriendOrFaux · 22/03/2019 07:00

The only people bleating are remainers.

bellinisurge · 22/03/2019 07:02

@Oblomov19 , if you fell for the lie that it would be easy then you refused to believe anyone who told you the truth- that it would be hard. How it played out in detail is neither here nor there.
This mess does not surprise me because I believed other people when they said Leave would be tricky because of the UK /Ireland border. That is what this is all about.
It beggars belief that Leave supporters have such little faith in British inventiveness that that don't think a technological solution is in our grasp. If we get one within 2 years we don't need the backstop.
For those who think we don't need a technological solution, you are all muppets.
