To think that Teresa May's speech this evening was an absolute fucking disgrace?

'You, the public, have had enough.
“You’re tired of the infighting, you’re tired of the political games and the arcane procedural rows, tired of MPs talking about nothing else but Brexit when you have real concerns about our children’s schools, our National Health Service, knife crime'.

“You want this stage of the Brexit process to be over and done with. I agree. I am on your side. ”

So: 'You’re tired of all the shit that my party and my government have caused eg through years of cuts to the health and police services. It's not my fault that Brexit has been so appallingly badly handled, I'm only the Prime Minister and it's everyone else's fault. So why not just let me have my way and things will all get better? I am a mindreader and presume to know what you want, even though I display zero empathy in my public utterances, and I know you all want Brexit (even though only a small proportion of the electorate actually voted for it, 3 years ago)'.

We’re finished as a country if this is the best we can do, it is just heartbreaking that our country has been brought to this. I cant believe that this woman is in a position of such power and represents our country.

I don't WANT you on my side, just get away from me.

onthenaughtystep- in the unimaginably awful situation of being PM, she should have announced all the problems at once. 'We need to leave. Here are the problems with this. Here are some options. I am now setting up a cross party Select Committee to examine the options over the next six months and to come up with a working solution. They will also advise on when to trigger Article 50'. When TM became PM she had a working majority and a considerable stock of political capital and goodwill, based on her being a) not Leadsom and b) not Corbyn. She spent that capital on trying to buy any of the ERG, who aren't for sale.

bellie710 · 20/03/2019 22:38

No deal is the only way forward now.

bluddleuddleumdum · 20/03/2019 22:39

Signed and fingers crossed in hope

Gintonic · 20/03/2019 22:40

Well the petition is doing well!

RomanticFatigue · 20/03/2019 22:40

How can the WA be agreed by MPs though if the Speaker has said it can't be presented again?
I'm soooo confused.

cochineal7 · 20/03/2019 22:40

I am on your side. I put red lines all around me, without consulting anyone, but based on how I interpreted what the undefined question of leaving the european union would mean to you. I invoked Article 50 before having any meaningful negotiating strategy or knowing what exactly Brexit means Brexit means. I nominated a Brexit secretary who showed up for negotiations about 3 times but had to catch the eurostar back. I never presented a plan myself other than those red lines and meaningless platitudes about the will of the people and Brexit means Brexit. I never consulted anyone although I listened to the ERG as they do have a plan. The result of this is that the deal on the table was the only possible outcome fitting in my red lines. I am miffed the MPs just don’t see how this is the will of the people. Surely you must have enough by now?

Fazackerley · 20/03/2019 22:41

Why is it her fault? I can't see anyone else coming up with a good plan.

Colourpencils · 20/03/2019 22:41

Sign the petition and join the march.

BloggersNet · 20/03/2019 22:42

She's made the wrong decisions from the start. She will keep making the wrong decisions as will most others in her party.

KidLorneRoll · 20/03/2019 22:42

"Why is it her fault? I can't see anyone else coming up with a good plan."

Apart from, I dunno, not leaving the EU because it's a fucking stupid idea? Or maybe just double checking with the population what we think of it all now?

LadyGregorysToothbrush · 20/03/2019 22:43

She’s a would-be autocrat, clearly.

Good job she’s so uncharismatic and unlikeable.

BloggersNet · 20/03/2019 22:43

Fazackeley, she's the prime minister in case you weren't aware.

eurochick · 20/03/2019 22:44

Not in my name, Theresa, not in my name.

GCAcademic · 20/03/2019 22:45

Why is it her fault? I can't see anyone else coming up with a good plan.

No one has been allowed to come up with a plan. It’s been her plan, her deal, her Brexit. Anyone with half a brain would have recognised at the outset that they needed to build cross-party consensus in order to get a deal through Parliament (especially after she lost her party’s majority in her ill-judged GE).

ValeurNutritive · 20/03/2019 22:45

Why is it her fault? I can't see anyone else coming up with a good plan.
In response to the latter question, that's largely because TM won't let Parliament put forward other options.

Asta19 · 20/03/2019 22:45

The petition map makes for interesting reading though. Overwhelmingly it’s those in the South East who are signing, with a couple of exceptions. I’m not convinced remain would win if there was another vote.

I am tired of the political games, that I will agree on. The leave vote won so she’s not wholly wrong to say this is what people wanted. Although I didn’t watch the speech so can’t really comment. FWIW I didn’t vote either way (nor have I complained since, before anyone tells me I can’t because I didn’t vote!). As a non voter, I am tired of the whole thing. Leave. Stay. Just bloody get on with it whatever you are going to do.

Fazackerley · 20/03/2019 22:47

I'd much rather not leave at all, but I genuinely don't see how she can ignore the referendum result. And a second referendum may have the same outcome.

If I heard sense from any other politician then fine, but no-one has the first clue what to do.

Ladysap · 20/03/2019 22:47

YANBU this is a total mess. I don't see politicians being bullied into agreeing a deal they don't agree on - that I thought they couldn't vote on again anyway. Worryingly I fear they may just go through with no deal on some belief that they'll keep the majority of the country happy because they carried out the wish to Leave. 😢😢😢

Fazackerley · 20/03/2019 22:47

I’m not convinced remain would win if there was another vote

Nor am I.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 20/03/2019 22:48

I don’t usually care about politics, I hate the way they screw us over... however, everyone hating on Teresa May when David Cameron is the prick that started it, he set the ball in motion didn’t like the mess he created and then fucked off, no where to be seen, she’s still going ahead and trying to push ahead to Do what a majority of the country wanted (bearing in mind she doesn’t want to leave) with the other Dickish mps fighting her at every corner, yet she’s made out to be the absolutle worst. I love how everyone in this country complains about everything without seeing the bigger picture. I hate the Tories and everything they stand for, I’d fall under the labour status quo yet I can’t stand Jeremy Corbyn.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 20/03/2019 22:49

I’m fed up hearing about it and only care when they finally make a decision after 2 years... can’t believe it’s taking this long... it’s like trying to leave a cult....

Daisymay2 · 20/03/2019 22:50

Scary- she sounds like a dictator- appealing to the country over the heads of our elected representatives.

Fazackerley · 20/03/2019 22:51

But the elected representatives have been like a bunch of headless chickens.

doubleshotespresso · 20/03/2019 22:52

I am still livid, was honestly the most disgraceful, delusional, ill-worded and cringeworthy political statement I have ever witnessed. Hideously embarrassing to watch I actually detest the woman with very fibre of my being now, she has decimated this country and the arrogance is deafening.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 20/03/2019 22:52

At least we will get a deal with USA as Donald trump approves of us becoming independent...
I’m telling you it will do down to the last dying seconds and we will end up with a deal, the eu need us just as much as we need them... it’s like watching someone play a game of chicken.... who will give out first.
