To think that Teresa May's speech this evening was an absolute fucking disgrace?

'You, the public, have had enough.
“You’re tired of the infighting, you’re tired of the political games and the arcane procedural rows, tired of MPs talking about nothing else but Brexit when you have real concerns about our children’s schools, our National Health Service, knife crime'.

“You want this stage of the Brexit process to be over and done with. I agree. I am on your side. ”

So: 'You’re tired of all the shit that my party and my government have caused eg through years of cuts to the health and police services. It's not my fault that Brexit has been so appallingly badly handled, I'm only the Prime Minister and it's everyone else's fault. So why not just let me have my way and things will all get better? I am a mindreader and presume to know what you want, even though I display zero empathy in my public utterances, and I know you all want Brexit (even though only a small proportion of the electorate actually voted for it, 3 years ago)'.

We’re finished as a country if this is the best we can do, it is just heartbreaking that our country has been brought to this. I cant believe that this woman is in a position of such power and represents our country.

I don't WANT you on my side, just get away from me.

meister sadly, I do know of one person who voted Leave because they believed it would help the NHS and yes, they would now change their vote. The other Brexiteer I know will vote Leave again. I did not try to influence either of them despite being hurt by their vote. I don't know how a second referendum would go - I would hope the turnout would be better and that people would be making a more informed decision.
I am sadly aware that if it did swing the other way that deaths of previous older voters would be blamed as opposed to the fact that people were lied to and the ones that made it happen slunk away.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 23/03/2019 14:32

I'd be happy enough with best of three, yes Smile

longwayoff · 23/03/2019 14:47

Bertrand, have you seen any of the Netflix documentaries about cults? Its a mindset that won't be altered by reason or logic.

WhiteDust · 23/03/2019 15:04

Mummymeister
why should I vote a second time Bertrand when I voted a first time and this hasn't been enacted? best of 3? best of 5?

Theresa loves a second/ third vote on the same thing though doesn't she?
Or does that only apply when she doesn't get the result she's after first time round?

WhiteDust · 23/03/2019 15:07

a second vote will be just as close. there wont be a 70:30 type majority either way.

Do you have the numbers for this weeks lottery too Mummymeister?

BertrandRussell · 23/03/2019 15:42

“you have no idea whether Brexit will make the economic situation better or worse. You can do a best guess but you don't know for sure.“

Well, I can’t think of any significant economist or business person who thinks that Brexit would be good for the economy. And I am old fashioned enough to take advice from experts in their field.........

Alsohuman · 23/03/2019 15:45

Those pesky experts leavers were told to ignore, just listen to the soothing whispers about the sunny uplands and £350 million a week for the NHS.

Decormad38 · 23/03/2019 15:49

There’s something seriously wrong with that woman. I do not trust her one bit to represent me!

NewYear2018 · 23/03/2019 18:12

Warning there is some swearing.

Livingtothefull · 23/03/2019 20:08

Thanks for the video link NewYear2018, that is spot on. If you are asking people to vote for the status quo, then the status quo had better be bloody good. For too many people in 2016, it wasn't and it still isn't. But our own government is responsible for that rather than the EU.

It looks like a million people may have turned out today, and the petition is over 4.5 so heading for 5 million.

It seems to me, Government would be so terrified of the angry, downtrodden and marginalised if there is no Brexit, it might feel obliged to do something for them. If there is Brexit, well it's been carefully framed as something the neglected regions wanted, so no need to do anything else for them - everyone will be too busy protecting the investments of the wealthy, the position of the City of London, and negotiating trade deals etc for the next 15 years or so.

Livingtothefull · 24/03/2019 09:57

That's a great point Walkaround. So once Brexit happens and their lives don't improve or get worse (as they will), the Government can just say 'we gave you Brexit, what are you complaining about now?'.

All the money that has already been spent on Brexit could have been spent instead on making their lives better. But of course there was no money tree for THAT.

The contempt with which we are being treated by our 'rulers' at present knows no bounds. Going back again to Teresa May's speech on Wednesday in which she purported to reach out to 'the people': what really angers me about is the contempt towards us she displayed which belied the words 'I am on your side'.

We know that a no deal Brexit could lead to deaths: www.independent.co.uk/news/health/brexit-deaths-increase-fruit-vegetables-price-rise-heart-attacks-strokes-cancer-a8750461.html

www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/brexit-latest-matt-hancock-refuses-to-rule-out-deaths-from-medicine-shortages-in-uk-crashes-out-of-a3990706.html

  • to say nothing of the risk of destroying the hard-won peace in N Ireland, unforgivable in my view to risk ripping all that up.

And our own government is actually prepared to risk this situation in which people will die, and hold the threat of it over our heads? In the light of this I actually find these words sinister: 'You want this stage of the Brexit process to be over and done with. I agree. I am on your side'. What she is really saying is 'the way to make all this go away is to vote for my deal (the one that was twice defeated because it is such a poor deal for the country). Otherwise, on your head and that of MPs be it. My conscience is clear, I am only the prime minister so it won't be anything to do with me'.

And the bitch has the audacity to claim she is on our side?

'Teresa' got it entirely wrong as what the march and the petition have demonstrated is that although we may be sick of Brexit and want this all over and done with,as 'Teresa' claimed, we want all the same to see it through and ensure this is done right, or else not do it at all.

This is a monumental failure of leadership. What we should have at this stage is a vision of the future which we could all engage with and work towards, and in which the serious problems in the country could be addressed. Or we need an admission that Brexit can't be imposed without inflicting serious damage on the country and on us. One or the other. Instead all we get is bullying, threats and arrogance.

The woman behind the Petition has now received 50 death threats and has left the country.

MP Anna Soubry was unable to go home this weekend because of death threats.

I am afraid to speak out on local social media because I will get a mouthful of abuse and fear my windows will get broken. Every day I witness another incident of violence or lawlessness - and this in a cabinet minister's constituency.

What are you doing about this T May?
FUCK.ALL.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 24/03/2019 11:14

The woman behind the Petition has now received 50 death threats and has left the country.

I think you are conflating two issues: the woman who started the petition is out of the country but I have not seen any evidence that she has left the country because of the petition.

Alsohuman · 24/03/2019 11:16

Nothing to do with the death threats? Pull the other one.

TildaKauskumholm · 24/03/2019 11:29

Some of those commenting here, while saying they did not vote in the referendum, kindly sod off.... you had the chance to have your say, and did nothing. Nobody wants to hear from you now.

Livingtothefull · 24/03/2019 11:59

The petition is nearing 5 million now...please could anyone who hasn't already signed please do so to get it up to 5 million.

@ AstonishedFemalePersonator: I didn't say she had left the country because of the death threats.

“Hi – am the person responsible for the revoke article 50 petition. Just needed to tell you that 1. I am currently visiting Cyprus. and 2. last night I had three telephoned death threats. Who wants Brexit so much that they are prepared to kill for it?” Margaret Georgiadou link here

'IN the past 10 hours have had three death threats over the phone, my fb account has been hacked andhad a torrent of abuse on Facebook. Am closing my FB account.' Margaret Georgiadou Twitter link here
