To think that Teresa May's speech this evening was an absolute fucking disgrace?

'You, the public, have had enough.
“You’re tired of the infighting, you’re tired of the political games and the arcane procedural rows, tired of MPs talking about nothing else but Brexit when you have real concerns about our children’s schools, our National Health Service, knife crime'.

“You want this stage of the Brexit process to be over and done with. I agree. I am on your side. ”

So: 'You’re tired of all the shit that my party and my government have caused eg through years of cuts to the health and police services. It's not my fault that Brexit has been so appallingly badly handled, I'm only the Prime Minister and it's everyone else's fault. So why not just let me have my way and things will all get better? I am a mindreader and presume to know what you want, even though I display zero empathy in my public utterances, and I know you all want Brexit (even though only a small proportion of the electorate actually voted for it, 3 years ago)'.

We’re finished as a country if this is the best we can do, it is just heartbreaking that our country has been brought to this. I cant believe that this woman is in a position of such power and represents our country.

I don't WANT you on my side, just get away from me.

If you don't know, then maybe, just maybe you want to read up on what else has been mooted over the last 3 years or just how much TM has acted like an unelected dictator. Let's consider that getting a meaninful vote AT ALL where our, y'know, elected representatives actually had input into the matter was not on TM's agenda at the start at all. Let's think about what, say, the SNP and the other minority parties have said this evening. Labour's alternative plans. Options like Norway +. Revising the 'red lines. Good or bad other options are available, but no, according to May it's her deal or no deal, and she has the fucking nerve to say it's other people destroying the 'fragile' trust the public has.

Not to mention holding a 2nd referendum is not a stupid idea unless you are one of the people who think holding a democratic vote is 'undemocratic' when TM brings back her shit deal for a 2nd, 3rd or 4th attempt.

Fazackerley · 20/03/2019 23:18

We need (more) MPs who will stand up and be honest about it, to say 'we would like to respect the results of the referendum but in the national interest we can't proceed with Brexit any longer, here is why..."

Yes this is what I would like to happen.

ValeurNutritive · 20/03/2019 23:18

She has spent months shutting down any meaningful debate on the way forward in the hope of strong-arming parliament into agreeing a deal it rejected by a historic margin and one that even a vast majority of Leave voters think is shit. So far, she has resoundingly failed.

Now she's trying to set herself up as some sort of Tommy Robinson figure, waging war for the people against Parliament.

Odious, reckless woman. She should have used tonight to resign.

onthenaughtystepagain · 20/03/2019 23:19

*"I still don't understand what else she was supposed to have done?"

Negotiated competently*

The other 26 countries are not required to negotiate in any normal sense of the owrd, we had to put forward a proposal and they said yes or no with nothing offered as an alternative. As they are terrified of losing such a large net contributer they were always going to say No, were it Greece, Spain Italy, they would have held the door open for them!

DrVonPatak · 20/03/2019 23:19

Signed con gusto.

DangermousesSidekick · 20/03/2019 23:20

No one had the chance to come up with any did they Fazackerley? As soon as she was in power, she triggered A50, refused cross-party consensus, and that was that. All about 'her vision' of Brexit, led by her "God" - something else we urgently need to deal with, why has a 2000-yr old previously all-but-dead religion come back into this state's mechanisms?

I would have preferred a cross-party, national government for an undertaking of this magnitude, with an expectation that Brexit would take years. Something that examined all options, such as the Norway, and Canada options, a BRINO with customs union and freedom of movement, and so on, before even triggering A50. 10 days to go, 3 years of faffing, and we still have no plan. Tusk was right about needing a special place in hell.

bellie please read up on the difference between democracy under rule of law by the informed, and demagoguery (mob rule).

twofingerstoEverything · 20/03/2019 23:20

bellie democracy did not end in June 2016.

SleepDeprivedCabbageBrain · 20/03/2019 23:20

Fucking disgrace is about right! I can't believe the total lack of irony that her own strategy of running down the clock has come back to bite her in the arse.

FinnegansWhiskers · 20/03/2019 23:20

Ah ok.... your acquaintance could have abstained then...but s/he didn't...everyone is entitled to vote...
Why should she have abstained? As you say, she's entitled to vote. I was making the point that you claimed not to have taken the bus into account, but plenty of people did. here's that link again...
The reason they plastered that lie all over the side of a bus was because they knew it would turn some heads.

Yes as I said everyone is entitled to vote.... But....I cant decipher my quote from yours in the above …..Can you suggest who you would like to take over from TM when she throws the towel in.....You haven't answered that... We ae all gagging to read your articulated, knowlegeable and reasoned response......

onthenaughtystepagain · 20/03/2019 23:21

And that fucking awful coat of hers. I cannot put my faith in someone in a fleece.

Haha, what a pathetic remark from a site that is supposed to be supportive of women and would normally be scathing of anyone who dared judge a woman on her appearance. The hypocrites are out in force.

How999 · 20/03/2019 23:21

Unbearable and deluded - Theresa May that is.

Sod her.

Don't patronise me. I own and run my own business and we export to the EU. I've spent the last three years glued to the media trying to work out where this is going to go, for the sake ofmy family and employees .

Labour came up with some half arsed plan about 6 weeks ago. Done literally to swipe at May, with no strong foundations whatsoever. Norway + won't work here.

KidLorneRoll · 20/03/2019 23:23

Oh, so there was other plans then, other suggestions put forward.

Because I could have sworn you said there wasn't.

Ignoring the way TM ran the whole thing over the last 3 years still though.

LadyGregorysToothbrush · 20/03/2019 23:24

Norway + won't work here.

Why not?

Fazackerley · 20/03/2019 23:25

There have been no workable or intelligent alternative plans mooted in the last 2 years, no. Oliver letwins amendments were the best attempt.

Amanduh · 20/03/2019 23:26

I mean she’s right though about the mp’s.

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 20/03/2019 23:26

Yes. She needs to sack her speechwriters as they do a fabulous job alienating those she needs most.

twofingerstoEverything · 20/03/2019 23:27

Really? You expect me to answer your question in the face of your childish sarcasm?

FinnegansWhiskers · 20/03/2019 23:28

And that fucking awful coat of hers. I cannot put my faith in someone in a fleece

Just another useless jibe from a remainer then..... Because, of course, people should be judged by what they wear.....Get a fucking grip!

Fazackerley · 20/03/2019 23:28

Norway + won't work here. Why not

Because Norway don't want us!

KidLorneRoll · 20/03/2019 23:28

Ok then. All hail Dictator May's glorious plan that, for some strange unfathomable reason lots of people really, really dislike.

FriendOrFaux · 20/03/2019 23:29

I was rather impressed by her speech. Looks like I'm the only one Blush

Fazackerley · 20/03/2019 23:30

kidlorne I dislike it as well, but I'm still waiting to hear about all these amazing alternatives that have been rejected.

reenchantmentofeverydaylife · 20/03/2019 23:35

Haha, what a pathetic remark from a site that is supposed to be supportive of women and would normally be scathing of anyone who dared judge a woman on her appearance. The hypocrites are out in force.

At a time like this, that's what you choose take issue with and comment on?

Your humourless, dour-faced, blood-drained CF government deserves you.

FinnegansWhiskers · 20/03/2019 23:35

@twofingersto Everything.

I thought you might like to answer based on your (superior) knowledge. You obviously can't....That's all I need to know...
