To think Everyone knows what a Green Wheely Bin is for, even builders from a different town?!

Everyone knows what the green bin is for, right?!
Four bins, all different colours. OH says that it's not obvious if you're from a different town, I know that the colours vary but surely green is the same everywhere?!

We're having work done and today I found a load of broken glass in our green bin.
AIBU to think they've just been completely lazy and thoughtless and that it's not on at all? OH doesn't seem at all bothered and just made excuses for them.
I doubt he will be sorting through a mixture of rotting food and broken glass...

Our green bin is for general waste. Brown for garden waste, grey for recycling. Have no idea how it is in other towns.

MummaMeerkat · 19/03/2019 20:27

Nope green bin here is general waste but we have relatives whose green bin is for paper and card

Friedeggsandcustard · 19/03/2019 20:27

Not everywhere. Our recycling used to be black and the regular waste was green. Last year they swopped them over as the green was bigger than the black and most people now have more recycling than rubbish. Still lazy lf the builders though. They should have checked.

Processedpea · 19/03/2019 20:27

Mils green bin is for anything the brown is for green things Grin

Whathappenedtothelego · 19/03/2019 20:27

Our green bin is for normal rubbish.
Recycling is black/grey.
(Not sure what bright spark at the council thought that one up, but we are stuck with it)

Perhaps the builder is from here.

Asdf12345 · 19/03/2019 20:28

Green bin is paper and card here, but was garden waste last place I lived. Compost has been brown most places I have lived so far...

Are there standard colours for them?

whohaa · 19/03/2019 20:28

In my area we only have 1 bin and that's brown.
So I have no idea what your green bin is for.

Tefiti2 · 19/03/2019 20:28

My green bin is for glass!

WeeDoughball · 19/03/2019 20:28

We have 4 bins and none of them are green

GMtoBe · 19/03/2019 20:28

We don't have green bins and if I had to guess I'd say garden waste?

Heyha · 19/03/2019 20:29

Our green bin is for recycling (having moved from somewhere the green bin is for..green stuff, I find this baffling!)

PlatinumBrunette · 19/03/2019 20:29

No green bin here. Where my mother lives, the green bin is for paper.

Malibucyprus · 19/03/2019 20:29

Green for recycling
Grey for general waste
Brown for garden

Broken glass should go in the general waste bin according to our council website.

emotionalaffair · 19/03/2019 20:29

Our green bin is for plastics and glass. At our old house (different council area) it was for general waste.

trilbydoll · 19/03/2019 20:29

Our green bin is for garden waste, this is surely the most logical?!

Disfordarkchocolate · 19/03/2019 20:29

Green is a general waste bin here, still, find it odd after nearly 7 years.

Steamfan · 19/03/2019 20:29

our green bin is for general rubbish - , but down the road that would be a black bin, and the green one for garden waste.

PandaCorn · 19/03/2019 20:30

Oh ok, I stand corrected!
It just makes sense to me that it should be for green things... like grass/garden stuff.

Though with four bins it must fairly obvious that they're for different purposes and sensible to take a peek inside at all the food waste before lobbing glass in.

NoRightIsIt · 19/03/2019 20:30

What is your green bin for? Because mine if for general waste but my relatives in the very next town (1 mile away!) is for paper and cardboard as they are in different council area. In fact all their bins are very different to my bins. So YABU yo day the builder should know. But they should have checked with you b

moaningitsabingthing · 19/03/2019 20:30

Green for garden, grey for general waste, brown for paper, blue for glass and plastic. Obvs.

titchy · 19/03/2019 20:30

My brown one is for green things, my green one for landfill, my blue one for recycling. Plus food waste bin.

minipie · 19/03/2019 20:30

Our council won’t collect from wheelie bins. Smaller round bins only.

So I’d have no idea.

Boysnme · 19/03/2019 20:31

My green is for plastics and cans

StarlingsEverywhere · 19/03/2019 20:31

Green bin is for cycling here. Brown for garden waste and black for general waste.

YouLikeTheBadOnesToo · 19/03/2019 20:31

Here our bin green lid is for recycling, black for general waste and brown for garden waste.
