To think Everyone knows what a Green Wheely Bin is for, even builders from a different town?!

Everyone knows what the green bin is for, right?!
Four bins, all different colours. OH says that it's not obvious if you're from a different town, I know that the colours vary but surely green is the same everywhere?!

We're having work done and today I found a load of broken glass in our green bin.
AIBU to think they've just been completely lazy and thoughtless and that it's not on at all? OH doesn't seem at all bothered and just made excuses for them.
I doubt he will be sorting through a mixture of rotting food and broken glass...

My green bin is for general non recyclable rubbish. Then I have black boxes for recycling and a brown bin for garden waste.

LordVoldetort · 19/03/2019 20:31

Green bin for recycling and another green bin (with a brown lid) for garden waste. We don’t get general waste bins provided to us so these are whatever colour the homeowner wants them to be

TyrionsNextWife · 19/03/2019 20:31

We have a smaller black bin for general waste, bigger black bin for mixed recycling and a brown bin for garden and food waste. I would make the assumption that’s green bin was for some sort of recycling or garden waste, but I’d check before chucking glass in it!

DanielRicciardosSmile · 19/03/2019 20:31

Green here is household waste, brown is garden waste, and brown with a grey lid is recycling (including glass). Seems different councils have different colour schemes, so I'm afraid YABU to think that that everyone should automatically know which scheme yours uses.

PhannyMcNee · 19/03/2019 20:31

We have a brown wheels bin for garden waste but that’s it! Black sacks for general rubbish and a collection of different coloured bags (that keep changing) for recycling.

So no, I’d have no clue which the green wheely bin is for Smile

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 19/03/2019 20:32

Our green bins were for garden waste, but that's changed.

Brown or green for general waste
Black or dark grey for recycling
Stonking purple colour for garden waste.

lovelilies · 19/03/2019 20:32

Green bin - non-recyclables
Blue bin- glass, paper, card etc
Brown/black - garden waste

No other options

Ginnymweasley · 19/03/2019 20:32

I just moved 10 miles. But I've crossed into a different council. In my old house green bin was general waste but in my new house general waste is black bin and garden waste is green. So I think it's an easy mistake.

TrixieFranklin · 19/03/2019 20:32

Green bin is recycling, grey bin is general waste and brown bin is garden stuff here!

MadSweeney · 19/03/2019 20:32

Green General
Brown Garden
Blue Recycling

Have to really think about it as our last house was in another council area and:

Green Recycling
Grey General.

Linnet · 19/03/2019 20:32

My green bin is general waste, blue is recycling paper, tins cardboard etc and brown is food and garden waste. We don’t get our glass collected we have to take that to a recycling point by ourselves.

StarlingsEverywhere · 19/03/2019 20:32

*recycling

CluedoAddict · 19/03/2019 20:32

Green bin general waste. Blue bin recycling. Brown bin garden waste.

AwdBovril · 19/03/2019 20:32

Green bin is general rubbish, blue bin is mixed paper, plastic & metal items to be recycled. We don't have any other bins. Sorry but YABU to assume they would/should know. Unless they are clearly labelled?

MonicaGB · 19/03/2019 20:32

Green is for recycling, black is for general, browned lidded green bin is for garden, black crate is for glass and batteries and a brown food caddy Confused. I do feel like I have a waste centre running at the side of my house with all the bin paraphernalia.

UterusUterusGhali · 19/03/2019 20:33

Green for recycling here, but there's a helpful sticker inside the lid telling you clearly what's acceptable.

megletthesecond · 19/03/2019 20:33

Green for recycling, card / paper / plastics/ aerosols.

Glass has its own special tub.

Whitelisbon · 19/03/2019 20:33

We have green for general waste, brown for garden waste, grey for food, blue for plastics/tins, black for cardboard and purple for glass.
A couple of miles awa y is a different council, and their general waste is black, haven't a clue about the others!

xyzandabc · 19/03/2019 20:34

Nope different councils have different numbers if bins and differ colours for different thing. We have 4.

Black = landfill waste
Green = all recyclables so paper, glass, tins, plastic etc
Brown = garden waste
Small green = food

PutyourtoponTrevor · 19/03/2019 20:34

Green for garden and food waste

Blue for paper and card

Black for cans and bottles

Grey for general waste

PandaCorn · 19/03/2019 20:34

trilbydoll

Our green bin is for garden waste, this is surely the most logical?!

Definitely logical!!

Mind boggled by other councils' colour choices!
I guess they can be forgiven then if they're in a green for glass area...

Yubaba · 19/03/2019 20:35

Green for paper
Brown for garden waste
Blue for recycling
Grey for general rubbish

AwdBovril · 19/03/2019 20:35

I would definitely have checked before chucking glass in though. They were definitely being thoughtless. Can you give feedback?

SingaSong12 · 19/03/2019 20:35

My green is plastics/cans/paper. Black is general waste. I live in a block of flats and we have a blue bin for glass bottles.

Saythatonemoretime · 19/03/2019 20:36

Green bin isn’t for general waste.
Grey bin for recycling including glass
Brown bin for garden waste

Then a food waste caddy bin
