To think Everyone knows what a Green Wheely Bin is for, even builders from a different town?!

Everyone knows what the green bin is for, right?!
Four bins, all different colours. OH says that it's not obvious if you're from a different town, I know that the colours vary but surely green is the same everywhere?!

We're having work done and today I found a load of broken glass in our green bin.
AIBU to think they've just been completely lazy and thoughtless and that it's not on at all? OH doesn't seem at all bothered and just made excuses for them.
I doubt he will be sorting through a mixture of rotting food and broken glass...

Green bin = general unrecyclable rubbish.

Black bin with green lid = all recyclables.

Brown bin = garden stuff.

Small silver bin = food rubbish.

Flavabobble · 19/03/2019 21:08

Brown for food and garden waste
Green for paper
Blue for glass
Grey for general waste
Obvs.

Frenchmontana · 19/03/2019 21:08

My green bin is general waste
Brown first recycling.

That all I have.

Food waste has to go in the general bin.

My best friend lives half a mile down the road, but in a different council area. Her green bin if garden waste and black for general waste.

GottenGottenGotten · 19/03/2019 21:08

I don't have a green bin. I have a blue one and a grey one.

No idea what the green would be for.

Myusernameismud · 19/03/2019 21:08

@Gronky does your local authority begin with a B? Grin

anniehm · 19/03/2019 21:08

Green is garden waste here, it's general recycling at mums.

ivegotthisyeah · 19/03/2019 21:10

My green bin is for plastics glass and cans, my mums is for general rubbish and we live a 7 minute drive from each other

anniehm · 19/03/2019 21:11

Oh and we have mixed recycling in a bag - we can't be trusted to sort apparently. Normal waste is black bin.

Doyouneedthetoilet · 19/03/2019 21:11

Ours is black bin general rubbish orange bin recycling and green bin garden waste. Though our neighbours 2 houses away have put God knows what in their green bin (after being evicted when caught growing cannabis) it has been outside on their drive for 2 weeks as the binmen won't collect it.

dawnc27 · 19/03/2019 21:12

love51 i shall assume that youre from the same area as me if the pink one is a black with a pink lid?
black/pink new bins are general
green is now cardboard/paper, was garden
old blck ones are now glass/plastics/tins replacing the blue box since we now do plastics
and a new brown for garden, this is an added fee paying option

WindowWeather · 19/03/2019 21:12

Green for general waste
Brown for Garden Waste/Compost
Blue Bin for Tins/Cans and Glass
Blue Caddy (Inside blue bin) for paper/magazine waste

Kim82 · 19/03/2019 21:12

My green bin is for garden and food waste.

Then we have a blue bin for paper/cardboard

Brown is for glass/plastic

And we have a black one which is for general waste

DamonSalvatoresDinner · 19/03/2019 21:13

We only have a grey bin. One bin. No recycling. I wouldn't have a clue what goes in different colour bins.

lotusbell · 19/03/2019 21:13

When you posted this, OP, bet you weren't really expecting so many replies stating what colour their bins were and what for. I won't bother adding my own, as 5 pages in I think you get the gist! Grin

MadisonAvenue · 19/03/2019 21:14

Current address:

Black - household waste
Blue - recycling
Green - garden waste

Previous address, 2 miles away but different council:

Green - household waste
Blue - recycling
Brown - garden waste.

dementedpixie · 19/03/2019 21:15

I don't have a green bin - we have black, blue, brown and blue with a green lid. I have no idea what a green bin is for

JoeMaplin · 19/03/2019 21:16

Green is for garden waste here. Blue for recycling. Separate box for glass and no food recycling. That goes in general waste (black)!

thedisorganisedmum · 19/03/2019 21:16

I haven't even got a green bin! Feel cheated!

(black - household
Blue - recycling
Grey - food
Brown - garden)

Not sure I want a pink one...

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 19/03/2019 21:17

For years and years the green bin was used for general waste and then all of a sudden a couple of years ago the council decided that the green bin would now be the recycling bin and the new less than half the size grey bin would be for general waste.

HappySonHappyMum · 19/03/2019 21:17

Green for garden waste, black for general rubbish, brown for paper, we also used to have a blue box for glass - I'm amazed that everyones bins are all so different!

Sexnotgender · 19/03/2019 21:18

Green for paper/card
Dark grey for plastic
Blue for general waste
Brown for garden waste and food

TitusP · 19/03/2019 21:18

Here:

Grey = general waste
Green = garden waste
Red = Recycling

Fairypiggy · 19/03/2019 21:19

We don’t have a green bin. Have black for general waste, blue for recycling and brown for garden waste.
