I have started watching Turn Up Charlie. I think he would be great as Bond. Bit of a departure what with the East End accent and looking (struggling to say what I mean accurately here) . A bit rough around the edges looking rather than polished if you see what I mean. And yes. He is a non minger crush of mine😀! Or a woman. Suggestions?

Is nobody biting with my Nick Frost plan?

OP posts:
Fazackerley · 18/03/2019 08:53

Michael Fassbender would have been great many moons ago. He has the cold streak that you need IMO.

Fazackerley · 18/03/2019 08:54

Nick Frost would be amazing

Or actually maybe Peter Serafinowicz

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 18/03/2019 08:56

I think Richard Madden, Luke Pasqualino, Chiwetel Ejiofor, James Norton or Idris Elba would make an excellent Bond.
I always thought Colin Salmon would have made an excellent Bond but he's already been in the movies.

Fazackerley · 18/03/2019 08:56

racist?

ok, saying a black spy would stand out is too much

saying you don't fancy idris is allowed though surely

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 18/03/2019 08:56

So many actors mentioned in these threads are completely wrong for Bond, mainly because they are too famous. Bond is the part that makes the actor A list. They will not cast an A list actor as Bond, nor do I think they would cast an actor with a big part in another franchise.

Bond is handsome but not pretty or beautiful.

A lot are too young (Bond is a commander in the Royal Navy, so unlikely to be that young) or too old.

Richard Armitage would have been great, but he's now too old.

Oh, and he must be a Brit, Irish at a push. And a man.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 18/03/2019 08:57

Peter Serafinowicz GrinGrinGrin

usernamerisnotavailable · 18/03/2019 08:58

All those saying Hardy is too short.... Craig is tiny!

Notmyrealname855 · 18/03/2019 08:59

What about my Dr Who man?! He’s gorgeous!

ShatnersWig · 18/03/2019 09:00

@usernameisnotavailable When did 5 ft 10 become classified as "tiny"?

Petalflowers · 18/03/2019 09:00

Idris in a spin-off Bond would be great. Love him in Turn Up Charlie (never really watched Luther).

I agree that it won’t be a super well known actor but someone who is up and coming, and beginning to make a name for himself.

How about Richard Armitage or Rupert Perry Jones - both already suitably trained up via Spooks (plus both gorgeous)

ShatnersWig · 18/03/2019 09:02

@Petalflowers Penry-Jones is 48 now. They aren't going to cast someone of 52 or 53 to play Bond for his first film (different if it's his last).

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 18/03/2019 09:03

Richard Armitage is 47. 10 years ago = perfect.

ScrambledSmegs · 18/03/2019 09:05

Chiwetel Ejiofor has always been the guy that I've thought would be an amazing Bond. He's got amazing screen presence, can be immensely charming whilst also chillingly menacing.

He's too famous now though. And, if I'm honest, probably too good an actor.

Brummiegirl15 · 18/03/2019 09:06

Idris. Definitely.

Failing that, another couple of votes for James Purefoy or James Norton.

I quite fancy Jamie Dornan too. As dire as Fifty shades was, he was hot!!!
Although he's Irish not British

Idris would still be my number one choice

Notmyrealname855 · 18/03/2019 09:07

Just going to try my first ever uploads... imagine him in a suit! And he’s Irish so I hope he’s got a nice Irish accent in interviews :)

ShatnersWig · 18/03/2019 09:09

James Purefoy is 54 for crying out loud! He'd be as old as Moore was for his last (which was too old) when he started filming!

HungryForSnacks · 18/03/2019 09:11

Tom Hiddleston was in one of the rumored shortlists a couple of years ago. No complaints from me!

RumerGodden · 18/03/2019 09:15

Agree with the PP who said James Purefoy...he would have been perfect..prob a bit old now (although i am less bothered with older bonds)...

and for a very left field entry...i would have loved to see Don Cheadle as bond...he is very versatile and very changeable, cocky, searing, masculine....could have been good..

Jacob Rees-Mogg or Michael Gove looking at the secret crushes going on from another threadGrinBlush

Tinkerbell456 · 18/03/2019 09:18

See, Fazackerly, my perception is this. He would be happy at the local pub playing darts. No paying for a room in the casino in Monte Carlo. No more Martini’s, shaken not stirred. 2-3 lager and Nick Would be happyI would think. I am pitching exotic locations such as Milton Keynes. I also think he would be fairly unlikely to be distracted by beautiful young women with cartoonishly sexualised names. Think of the savings! It’s all about the bottom line people!,

OP posts:
sundaygrumpy · 18/03/2019 09:18

Idris would be a great Bond, although I agree he might be too old for more than a couple of films.
Jamie Dornan?

FuckertyBoo · 18/03/2019 09:19

Haaaaaaaaaa Rees-Mogg or Gove! Properly chuckling at that. Amazing.

keepforgettingmyusername · 18/03/2019 09:19

Definitely Aiden Turner, he's just the right age, he's a great actor and he's got that dark brooding thing going on. He isn't British though but he does a good accent in Poldark.

TruffleShuffles · 18/03/2019 09:21

Really like the suggestions of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Riz Ahmed and Domhnall Gleason. They are all great actors and not handsome in the traditional sense, I’d describe them more as beautiful than handsome.

It will also be a nice change to the posh white bloke we normal see as bond but not in a contrived way.
