I have started watching Turn Up Charlie. I think he would be great as Bond. Bit of a departure what with the East End accent and looking (struggling to say what I mean accurately here) . A bit rough around the edges looking rather than polished if you see what I mean. And yes. He is a non minger crush of mine😀! Or a woman. Suggestions?

Definitely James Purefoy about 20 years ago.Role would have cast itself. However, I have a real outsider folks but I feel it could work. I offer Nick Frost? He would certainly take Bond in a new direction. I can see it now.

I knew a black women with blue eyes. She was from the Caribbean originally. Not sure what her exact heritage was.

And no, Sean Connery didn’t either. He was Scottish though, unlike Piers Brosnan, Daniel Craig, Roger Moore (I think)? It’s actually just as likely to have a half Scottish, half Swiss black man than a half Scottish, half Swiss Irishman. So if you want to get all prescriptive re heritage, Piers Brosnan etc were all wrong as not Scottish or Swiss.

But anyway, the op has asked us not to discuss race on here.

MeAgainAgain · 18/03/2019 08:28

No need for a female bond, and I'm not sure the fucking everyone in sight thing would really work the other way? Would she be fucking loads of men? Nope I reckon it would be both men and women, mainly women. Male bond never went to bed with a man in the films....

Bond is a get male fantasy I don't even want to see a woman doing it.

Actors -
I like DC bond a lot. Laughing at idea black man will stand out like sore thumb all over the world I mean WTF sounds like an excuse to me!

I don't really mind.

Would be good if next bond didn't have coercy-rapey action.

Maybe he could shag a few men too, that would mix it up a bit 😁

FuckertyBoo · 18/03/2019 08:28

Ugh typos; I’m on my phone sorry^^

JollyAndBright · 18/03/2019 08:29

RIDICULOUS rationale that Idris can't be Bond because a black spy wouldn't "blend in". Ridiculous and kind of racist.

Absolutely, I’m genuinely shocked at some of the racism on this thread!

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/03/2019 08:29

Not Henry Cavell - creepy.
Idris - possible but I'd like more of his series The Long Run instead.
Jamie Bell - a bit left field when I read that but I think I'd like him, good range.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 18/03/2019 08:31

YES to Dan Stevens, he'd be perfect. He can do Establishment (Downton) AND action (fucking hell, have you seen him in The Guest? #drool)

Jamise · 18/03/2019 08:31

Henry cavill, idris is too old to get a decent amount of films out as Bond.
The argument about black spies not blending in is ridiculous though, Bond goes to plenty of locations where a white guy is the odd one out.

MeAgainAgain · 18/03/2019 08:32

Het male I should say.

I don't think it's possible to have a woman do it without making it even dodgier than at mo TBH.

subtext is she is having sex with people not because she wants to but for info.

Ummm.

That's not great.

Not great for male bond either but slightly different dynamic. Idea with him, as it's a het male fantasy, is that of course he wants to fuck beautiful women.

Going to stop thinking about this now, bit disturbing!

Frangipane · 18/03/2019 08:32

Ok ShatnersWig, he is apparently 42. Does that rule him out?

Tinkerbell456 · 18/03/2019 08:33

Henry Cavill, regardless of creepiness which is a matter of perception 😼 is a bit public school white boy perhaps. Hardly a departure from tradition I guess.

I think Sacha Dhawan could give it a good go.

MeAgainAgain · 18/03/2019 08:33

Should be under 40 surely.

Mid to late 30s I reckon.

MeAgainAgain · 18/03/2019 08:35

Idris would be v good I reckon and ticks all boxes apart from maybe getting on a bit.

Helendee · 18/03/2019 08:36

Tom Hardy for me!

Tinkerbell456 · 18/03/2019 08:38

I am still seeing Nick Frost bellying up to the bar in an incredibly rumpled tux an ordering a lager with a lemon slice.

ShatnersWig · 18/03/2019 08:39

@Frangipane Same comment I made about Fassbender applies. Scott would be just on the edge, age wise, as he'd likely be 45/46 for his first film. I still stick to my earlier notion that they will be looking for someone late-30s - so suitably experienced and can get at least three films out of them, four preferably. It's such an expensive franchise, they always go for a three film contract as a start off to know they have their actor in the bag for that, adding on extra films as required.

Actually, Tom Hardy would be circa 45 at the time of the next Bond film so even he is probably pushing it.

ButtMuncher · 18/03/2019 08:40

Andrew Scott (Moriaty) couldn't play Bond because he was the consultant for the company in Spectre wasn't he? Although I'd dig that totally.

I'd give a good shout for James Norton.

Redrupunzle · 18/03/2019 08:41

I'd love Luke Evans

Not Idris, or a woman

Michael fassbender or maybe, Sam argh can't remember his surname from outlander.

EyeDrops · 18/03/2019 08:42

Yes, yes I have Grin #swoon
And he's not so famous as to be an 'obvious' choice!

bellinisurge · 18/03/2019 08:44

Oo Jamie Bell would be great.
I was rooting for Gillian Anderson but I hate to say it she is probably too oldConfused

Notmyrealname855 · 18/03/2019 08:44

To me Bond is more about the attitude, and anyway I don’t care about changing a character’s ethnicity. Being goady Grin but if you don’t like changes to the books then just read the books, or allow for absolutely no editing and have each scene by scene and Hoagy Carmichael type as Bond :P

Maybe they should just admit they have no one who reinvigorates the series, and put it to sleep for a bit. There’s no need to churn them out every decade, and the premise isn’t very exciting anymore.

Maybe we should have an entirely new British spy film :) It was so easy for Bond to look outdated (as pp said about Bourne), maybe because Bond is pretty boring as an idea - a privileged white dude saving the day and shagging birds Blush. That’s becoming less and less appealing.

Also the last few films have been so overly depressing. Yes Bond needs a streak of sadness as a contrast to the fun, but the recent films were SO grey. And the (Skyfall?) scenes where M was under review, it was a ridiculous Harry Potter-style “stuffy old British bureaucratic types judging DC and friends”.

Maybe a problem is also that the producers need to be aware of the international audience, who like to see “traditional britain” on the screen. But for us that just doesn’t exist and at times is corrosive - eg how long are we going to have a white Bond drinking tea for? And old white men in the Bond administration? (Oh woo for Moneypenny, the only non white spy?)

Anyway... rant over Grin

TroysMammy · 18/03/2019 08:47

Taron Egerton in a couple of years.
