Ridiculous argument with DH who is BU?

NurseryWoes123 · 11/03/2019 09:17

This may be the epitomy of ridiculous...

I sleep with my feet sticking out of the quilt. DH thinks this is ridiculous. It doesn’t effect him at all. They go out the side and mind their own business.

Jokingly he suggested that if someone were to come into the bedroom at night they would drag me out the bed by my feet Hmm

I suggested that surely if they wanted to drag me out the bed by my feet they could just slip their hands under the quilt anyway - so no difference?

Anyway last night around 2am DH decided to prove his point and drag me by the feet out the bed. He was laughing. I was not. I’m 27 weeks pregnant and I need my sleep!

I hit the roof, he said it was a joke and I said it was a mean thing to do, especially as I hadn’t slept well the night before. He said I would normally find it funny (maybe) and that he didn’t understand the difference between now and before I was pregnant.

I sent him to the spare room.

So who was being a twat unreasonable?

OP posts:
Margot33 · 11/03/2019 11:37

He is being a twat.

GinisLife · 11/03/2019 11:40

The over reactions on here are hilarious !!! It was a joke. A prank. Yes a bit of a dickish one being as you were asleep but no one died, no ones hurt, you can get your own back. And one day you'll laugh about it. Get a life people. Laugh a little

MaudeLynne · 11/03/2019 11:49

I think it's quite funny, but his timing was wrong. Had he done it in the morning when you were already stirring and getting up soon anyway, I'm sure you would've laughed too.

Wait a few weeks and then kick him every time baby kicks you :-)

StoppinBy · 11/03/2019 11:52

@ginislife - I agree, how ridiculous getting all worked up because a married couple have a 'friendly' disagreement about where their feet are when they sleep - haha, should hear mine and DH's opinions on each others 'stupid pillows' (mine of course is the right height/shape - his is a POS, although I am sure he begs to differ Wink ), we seriously just had a laughing argument over who ALWAYS gets the 'good' left overs for lunch as he asked if I minded if he took the lamb shank that was in the fridge to work tomorrow. DH hides the chocolate in places that are too high for me to reach and once even hid the actual chocolate under the empty wrapper when I saw it I just assumed he had eaten it like the pig he is lol .

Some people have jokey r/ships where things like this are normal and not abusive.

FlagranceDirect · 11/03/2019 11:55

People laugh at things they find funny. Not necessarily at things you find funny. It's because people are different. I'm sure I'd laugh at things you might not find funny, but I don't mind that and wouldn't infer that meant you had no life.

Ohyesiam · 11/03/2019 11:55

God ,I would rip his head off, and that’s notpregnant. Pregnant I would rip his balls off.

Slowknitter · 11/03/2019 12:03

I'd have been pretty pissed off. But I'd be more worried about the fact that I'd married someone who was dumb enough to think that sleeping with your feet uncovered was a danger because of intruders Confused.

Sicario · 11/03/2019 12:05

Hi OP. Something else your DH might find absolutely hilarious - while he's asleep smear a generous dollop of microwave wax across his chest (or any other hairy area).

There's only one way for him to get it off. Oh, how he'll laugh!

Can also be done with (multiple) large wax strips. No need to thank me.

FlagranceDirect · 11/03/2019 12:10

Nothing of what you describe is comparable to dragging someone who is fast asleep down the bed by their ankles. I've never suggested nor inferred that it was intended to be abusive. It's just a bloody stupid thing to do to somebody and most people would get a significant shock. Especially stupid as OP is pregnant.

FlagranceDirect · 11/03/2019 12:12

Now 'that's' funny.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 11/03/2019 12:17

What a dick! Good job you don't keep a baseball bat by your bed to deal with intruders!

thedisorganisedmum · 11/03/2019 12:21

Where on earth did the OP write that her DH grabbed her by the ankles and threw her across the room in the middle of the night? I must have missed that bit, but the way posters are reacting, it must have done that!

Bluesheep8 · 11/03/2019 12:26

We're you hurt?

MadAboutWands · 11/03/2019 12:43

he didn’t understand the difference between now and before I was pregnant.
That’s the biggest issue.
If he can’t get that women are more tired when they are pregnant vs not pregnant, you have an issue. (Or rather he has - he is either stupid or a twat)
But if he doesn’t get how things have already changed, is he going to ‘get’ that things have dramatically changed when baby is here? Thatbtherebill be many th8ngs he can’t do anymore. That his wishes and wellbeing will come sexondvto the ones of his child. That you will be knackered and in need of support. And that, no, whilst you have a baby doesn’t sleep well, silly Kobe’s that involve waking your ur dw up and making her jump, all to prove a point, will never be welcome??

If H had done that, I would have hit the roof tbh. (But then he knows no one can mess up with my sleep and wouodnt have date tbh)

ChodeofChodeHall · 11/03/2019 12:46

Just a dick move. YANBU.

puppymouse · 11/03/2019 13:17

Fuck. I genuinely can't comprehend an adult man, about to become a father, doing this. He's batshit.

VeganCow · 11/03/2019 13:39

I don't find pranks funny. Not amusing watching other people get pranked either. And he would have got a smack in the face from me.

Miffymeow · 11/03/2019 13:58

Think there are a lot of people overreacting in this post. His intent wasn't malicious, as he said, he thought you'd find it funny, he didn't do it to upset. If he's apologised then all is good surely. My DP would do this kind of thing while I was half dozing and it'd be funny... after my initial outrage from being woken up of course Grin
I would of course, do the same back to him when he was asleep the next night... it'd be rude not to.

outpinked · 11/03/2019 14:01

I’d have been pissed off pregnant or not but then I don’t find toilet humour funny in the slightest so pranks and such just piss me off. You did the right thing sending him to the spare room.

outpinked · 11/03/2019 14:01

Oh and doing something ‘to be funny’ doesn’t mean it’s acceptable behaviour miffy.

detoke · 11/03/2019 14:03

LOL I found it funny, sorry. I think if he tugged your feet or pulled you but not aggressively then it was just bants lol

TwitterQueen1 · 11/03/2019 14:03

What a waste of time and energy OP. Angry This is me being very polite btw. Lies and exaggerations will always come back to bite you.

"..around 2am DH decided to prove his point and drag me by the feet out the bed..."

You weren't asleep. He didn't drag you out of the bed.

didihearthatright123456 · 11/03/2019 14:07

Ok I laughed out loud at him pulling you out of bed until I read that you were pregnant. I’m 31 weeks pregnant with twins so understand how precious sleep is.

The two of you obviously have a great sense of humour, he just took it too far.

I’d let him sweat a bit but ultimately wouldn’t think too much of it.

MrsTerryPratcett · 11/03/2019 14:07

Nothing is funny at 2am when you were asleep.

This.

Also he's 100% wrong and you are right. www.medicaldaily.com/get-better-sleep-feet-outside-blanket-regulate-body-temperature-better-help-you-sleep-more-297926

cupofteaandcake · 11/03/2019 14:13

I don't think you over reacted at all. Very very childish and frankly very strange that your DP is so obsessed with this, it's none of his business where you feet are. Secondly to scare his pregnant wife like this is not only very uncaring but also quite dangerous.
