To ask for what to feed unwanted guests?

We have a couple coming over on Sunday for lunch.

I don't want either of them here. Nor does DH.

But it's unavoidable. So it's happening. So no "just don't have them" comments please as that's a whole other drama.

Anyway. In the past (when we enjoyed their company) I've cooked various things, roasts, lasagne, buffet type bread/cheese/salad etc.

Well. They're all too much effort for me to go to for them now. Jacket potatoes maybe.

What's the easiest group meal I can throw out. That will feed us, but not make the kitchen and loads of crockery dirty please?

Maybe a big bowl of pasta and a salad?

Chilli and rice

Slow cooker curry and rice

Pasta, garlic bread and salad

Some sort of chicken tray bake

Fish and chips

All easy, could add some accompaniments if you want to. Add a dessert from the supermarket.

I appreciate what you are saying but I would still want to provide something half decent for dinner regardless of whether I really wanted them there or not.

oldowlgirl · 08/03/2019 23:20

I'd do chilli in a slow cooker with rice - very easy & not messy.

ratspeaker · 08/03/2019 23:21

Takeaway menu and tell them when they order you'll have this that and side order of ach canny be bothered

miaCara · 08/03/2019 23:22

I would definitely go down the ready made route. Gives you a little bit of satisfaction that you arent going to any trouble but meeting any social obligation you may be under.
Veggie , or even Vegan, is the way to go for these meat eaters .But be careful some veggie ready meals are darned tasty Wink

gonegnome · 08/03/2019 23:22

tripe

ILiveInSalemsLot · 08/03/2019 23:23

Give them lentil soup with some bread.

Otherwise, if you want decent food so you have something nice to eat too do something like this

Is there a reason why they are coming? And why don’t you want to feed them anything good?

Jaxhog · 08/03/2019 23:24

A big stew. Chuck all your old veggies in it. Buy some really cheap meat and stick that in too.

Although I can't imagine feeding unwanted guests. Unless they're family (and even then...?

SweetMarmalade · 08/03/2019 23:24

Agree with a chilli.

Add some wedges, garlic bread, side salad.

Alternatively a few luke warm sausage rolls from Greggs?! Wink

PestyMachtubernahme · 08/03/2019 23:25

Fish finger sandwiches and call it brunch, cos you had a lie in.

schlerp · 08/03/2019 23:25

Bowl of watery soup with only one stock cube in. Leave the bread out overnight.

MitziK · 08/03/2019 23:26

Potato curry. Boil spuds, chuck into a jar of cheap curry sauce, plain boiled rice. No extras.

You might have to phone for takeout once they leave, but odds are that they won't stay long.

colditz · 08/03/2019 23:27

Oh go on, tell us why you don't want them.

Also, make something vegan and serve it very slightly too cool.

MyDcAreMarvel · 08/03/2019 23:27

What have they done?

colditz · 08/03/2019 23:27

YES MitziK, you've obviously done this before

Angie169 · 08/03/2019 23:28

Frozen / chilled ready meal
Shop bought veggie pie or pastie frozen chips and cheep beans . There is nothing at all wrong with this meal for a quick tea but not one id give to guest I like
Veggie curry sauce poured over a mix of veggies and rice
( if they like spice make it a korma , if they like mild curry's dig out a madras / vindaloo )
Frozen Pizza ,
Ask them to call at the chippy on there way and pick up food for all of you .

Notso · 08/03/2019 23:28

The MN classic foods, Pom Bears, naice ham, crusty bread, magic rotisserie chicken and a fat ball. Fruit Shoot for the drink.

feska5 · 08/03/2019 23:29

Chicken fajitas with tortilla wraps, salsa and sour cream.

MrsBertBibby · 08/03/2019 23:31

Cook's frozen veg lasagne is bloody delicious and comes in 4 person.

If you want to serve nice food with no bother.

gonegnome · 08/03/2019 23:31

cook something cheap, burn it, have all the windows open "to get rid of the smell". sprouts boiled dry would be lovely.
It'll be freezing and they'll be gone in no time.

thefairyfellersmasterstroke · 08/03/2019 23:31

Tesco Meal Deals? Egg sandwiches, a packet of plain crisps and a Dr. Pepper each.

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 08/03/2019 23:32

Of course, nothing says "I hate you" more than serving one meal for yourself and your family and something different and less good for guests!

Pinkbells · 08/03/2019 23:33

If you're looking for something super easy - get a cooked roast chicken from the supermarket, and serve it with a preprepared salad and some rolls from the bakery. Zero work!

OpiesOldLady · 08/03/2019 23:36

Pot noodles.

PickAChew · 08/03/2019 23:37

Egg and chips.
