To ask for what to feed unwanted guests?

We have a couple coming over on Sunday for lunch.

I don't want either of them here. Nor does DH.

But it's unavoidable. So it's happening. So no "just don't have them" comments please as that's a whole other drama.

Anyway. In the past (when we enjoyed their company) I've cooked various things, roasts, lasagne, buffet type bread/cheese/salad etc.

Well. They're all too much effort for me to go to for them now. Jacket potatoes maybe.

What's the easiest group meal I can throw out. That will feed us, but not make the kitchen and loads of crockery dirty please?

Maybe a big bowl of pasta and a salad?

Serve Sparkling water only, no wine.

HotpotLawyer · 12/03/2019 08:54

THE LUNCH HAS BEEN AND GONE.

RTFT or at least look at the date of the OP and engage common sense.

Flobochin · 12/03/2019 08:57

Does it matter?

For goodness sake don't get excited.

OffToBedhampton · 12/03/2019 09:08

@Flobochin

I think readers are a bit fed up that several PPs haven't bothered to RTFT and their advice is outdated by many days / no longer needed.

If I don't have time or energy to RTFT, I don't comment, as it becomes really rather annoying when repeated PPs don't RTFT that things have moved on.

Flobochin · 12/03/2019 09:09

Simple

Ignore the thread.

M4J4 · 12/03/2019 09:21

It's funny when they don't RTFT, post their tuppence and then frantically read the end of the thread too see responses to their own post 😂Grin

MarthasGinYard · 12/03/2019 09:39

This really is the buffet that keeps on giving Grin

GoFiguire · 12/03/2019 10:00

You don’t even need to RTFT, just the last page to SEE THAT THEY’VE EATEN THEIR LUNCH!!!!!!!

GoFiguire · 12/03/2019 10:01

But is it a hot buffet or a cold buffet Martha? We need to know.

OffToBedhampton · 12/03/2019 11:42

@M4J4 😂😂

BlackInk · 12/03/2019 11:52

I would do soup with bread, butter and cheese - serve yourself from the kitchen affair.

Depending on how much you dislike them you could do home made or bought soup, nice crusty bread or boring bread.

I do a really quick pea soup - fry onions and garlic, add frozen peas, add stock, mint sauce (or pesto) and some cream cheese. Blend.

HotpotLawyer · 12/03/2019 12:43

By now? Leftovers.

Wink

FloBo.... it is just a sign of rudeness, really, to come in on the end of a long conversation without having even looked at the updates an think your post is relevant. And it keeps old threads in active convos. People can ignore or whatever, but we keep MN going well by observing some internet good manners, surely.

OfficeSlave · 12/03/2019 12:49

I just misread this thread title as 'what to feed unwanted ghosts' - immediately thought, 'i want to read this, this person must be very polite!' before senses kicked in.

If it was ghosts i would say, ghoulash.

Calzone · 12/03/2019 14:19

BlackInk · 12/03/2019 14:22

Eeeek, I knew that was coming at me Grin... to be fair, I skimmed through MOST of the thread. I'll keep my half baked opinions to myself in future...

GoFiguire · 12/03/2019 17:28

I’m sure people are posting menu suggestions on purpose now.

SneakyGremlins · 12/03/2019 17:29

Cold soup! And soggy toast.

honeybeetheoneandonly · 12/03/2019 21:18

I'm actually enjoying these minimum effort meal ideas.
OP, if you are still reading, please don't throw away the relationship with PIL if they have been good for over a decade. It's understandable you will be guarded from now on and an apology from them would go a long way to heal. See how it goes the next few meetings but you may need to address the elephant in the room before moving past this.
