Forgetting everything but the fact an innocent baby has died

AIBU to feel unbelievably sad that Shamima Bergum’s baby has died.

The poor mite simply didn’t have a chance in the world he was born in to.

Sad

This girl was groomed. From before the age of 15. She was a kid.

You are down playing those who are raped, she actively sought out ISIS.

Unfortunately, those children were the product and casualties of a war she chose to be a part of. She may have been young, but when you're 15 you still have enough of an understanding to make a choice of that magnitude.

If ISIS didn't get their arse handed to them, those babies still would have died and we wouldn't know about any of this because she wouldn't have tried to come back.

15-year-olds do stupid shit like getting a tacky piercing or skipping English to hang out with friends.

Joining a terrorist that was widely known org and front page news known for brutally torturing and murdering, raping, kidnapping, keeping slaves etc etc at the time she was somewhat self radicalising is not on par with being groomed.

Especially when joining said org means you have to travel thousands of kilometers through multiple countries. It's not like you got forcefully picked up/persuaded at bus stops/outside of school plied with drugs etc etc.

I can feel sorry for her loss and still hold her to some personal responsibility, remember the initial outcry was that we had to take her back due to international law, we followed that.

brummiesue · 08/03/2019 20:15

Do people actually believe she has given birth to 3 babies who have all died? Genuinely believe that??HmmHmm

sleepalldays · 08/03/2019 20:15

@NoCauseRebel it's said she was radicalised and sought out the extremist material herself before talking to her 'husband' online.

She knew what she was getting herself into, she knew what ISIS stood for and what they hated and who they killed because of it.

She wasn't groomed. She was stupidly naive though to think a man who fights and kills people would take care of her, but who knows, she may have helped kill people herself.

ILoveBray · 08/03/2019 20:16

PurpleDaisies

You’d say that about a girl groomed by her teacher?

This is a completely different situation. Shamima sought out material herself online, which is actually quite hard to find. She then made a decision to go and support Isis. I don't think the situations can be compared.

sleepalldays · 08/03/2019 20:16

@SouthernComforts there's no evidence! That's the point! She didn't even look pregnant at any point fgs.

LarkDescending · 08/03/2019 20:16

She was photographed with a visible baby at least once.

Those who have decided it was a “borrowed” baby would no doubt believe that even if there were dozens of photos of him.

LaMereDuChat · 08/03/2019 20:16

Thought I'd accidentally fallen into the Daily Mail's comment section here. Sad to see that the normally intelligent members of the Mumsnet community are mulling over conspiracy theories and dehumanising this woman.

Gingerkittykat · 08/03/2019 20:16

www.thesun.co.uk/news/8593066/shamima-begum-baby-died-thursday-lung-infection/

There's a lot of heartless people on here. There were glimpses of the baby in one interview and a quick google took me to the Sun website with pictures.

She has lost a baby, I don't know how anyone can remain unmoved by that.

BertrandRussell · 08/03/2019 20:18

“And FWIW I don’t believe she was groomed. A fifteen year old knows right from wrong.”

Presumably the grooming started before she was 15?

yolofish · 08/03/2019 20:18

There is a difference between being 15 and getting starry-eyed over a teacher and ending up running away to France with them on the theory its all about True Lurve, and actively seeking out information about a bunch of evil bastards who despise the way of life that raised you, and deciding that 'because Islam' beheadings, rape, torture etc are ok.

I have no sympathy for her - she chose this - but I am sorry about ALL the dead babies and suffering children, who didnt have the chance to choose. Maybe that makes me vile - but I'm still better than Shamima.

YogaWannabe · 08/03/2019 20:18

There's a lot of heartless people on here

How is it heartless to wonder if a terrorist told a lie?

sleepalldays · 08/03/2019 20:18

@LaMereDuChat Dehumanising her? She stood and STILL stands for a terrorist organisation who are the literal DEFINITION of the least human people in the world.

She deserves no sympathy in my books, even her father thinks so!

NoCauseRebel · 08/03/2019 20:18

You’d say that about a girl groomed by her teacher? read my post. A girl groomed by a teacher is someone who has been star-struck by the attentions of an older man. It’s understandable that a young girl being given that kind of attention will be flattered by the attention she received and may choose to act on it.

Someone who is attracted by the killing and beheading of innocent people and who even four years on believes that this is normal is a certain kind of person. If she was groomed so were all of them. But we only apply that to her because she was fifteen at the time. She’s now nineteen and applauding the Manchester bombing and saying that she wasn’t affected by seeing severed heads etc etc.

Any fifteen year old knows that that is wrong. She would have fallen for the message regardless of when she was told.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/03/2019 20:18

Hmm. The whole thing stinks of lies.

Chloemol · 08/03/2019 20:18

The death of any child at any age is regrettable. We are told lung infection is the cause of death but if she has already lost two how do we know it’s not genetic and not actually down to her being in the camp. We don’t. She however made her choice and she now has to live with the consequence

UnexpectedButExpected · 08/03/2019 20:19

She’s clearly been radicalised. No doubt about that from her (repugnant) interviews.

But the loss of 3 babies in infancy is surely a fate that only the most heartless wouldn’t feel something of a pang for?

OP posts:
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/03/2019 20:19

She wasn’t groomed. She was on a mission.

PumpkinPie2016 · 08/03/2019 20:19

Although I absolutely don't condone her actions or the actions of ISIS, it is incredibly sad that the baby has died. It is equally sad that many other innocent babies/children have died in all of this.

None of them chose what they were born into/forced to live among.

YogaWannabe · 08/03/2019 20:19

She sought them out!

Sorry but sometimes people just try too hard to be “woke” on here.

nancy75 · 08/03/2019 20:20

Gingerkittykat she joined a group that raped, tortured & killed god knows how many women and children. Even now she’s only turned her back on them because she had no choice. I feel sorry for the baby, I can’t feel sorry for her

0ccamsRazor · 08/03/2019 20:20

Over 440 male Isis fighters have returned to the country, but the 15 year old who was groomed is the one the media go batshit over.

This ^

Groomed..... radicalised..... Brainwashed

scarbados · 08/03/2019 20:20

He didn't deserve to die but neither did the children whose murders by IS his mother was so unconcerned about.

HaventGotAllDay · 08/03/2019 20:20

I feel sorry about the innocent child. Like I do about the innocent ones in the Manchester arena whose deaths were "justified" according to this woman.

sleepalldays · 08/03/2019 20:20

I'm actually surprised ISIS aren't coming after her for trying to leave them, does anyone know if you can actually leave Isis without issues?

She has not changed her views on them, she said seeing severed heads doesn't faze her and she still supports the organisation.
