metro.co.uk/2019/03/07/boy-19-sues-abortion-clinic-giving-ex-termination-wishes-8855393/

I don't even know what to say to this. I made the mistake of reading some of the comments about it on Facebook too.

Surely this can't stand up in court?

Boot = not

ThunderStorms · 08/03/2019 13:45

Argh! cold = could

S1naidSucks · 08/03/2019 13:45

But this is American? It wont impact our legislation.

Yup and NI is part of the UK, where a young woman was arrested for buying pills to have an abortion. It’s not that far fetched and I wouldn’t be surprised it gives some of our own home grown misogynistic troglodytes the same idea.

PinkHeart5914 · 08/03/2019 13:46

While I can see someone aborting a baby you want must be so sad, I mean it would be heart breaking and do I think that is fair no not really but then when is life fair. Ultimately it is up to the woman to decide

HoneysuckIejasmine · 08/03/2019 13:47

Shiiiit. And with the supreme court how it is...

FermatsTheorem · 08/03/2019 13:47

So you think women should be forced to carry a pregnancy to term and give birth, with the associated health risks, just because some bloke couldn't be arsed to wear a condom. Blimey, must be hard work living with that level of hatred towards women.

Sexnotgender · 08/03/2019 13:47

It might be his baby but it’s her body and she makes the decisions about her body.

I had a baby 5 weeks ago and pregnancy and childbirth is not something anyone should be forced to go through. I only had minor complications but some women end up with life changing injuries giving birth.
Not to put too fine a point on it but men can get to fuck trying to force women to go through that against their will.

gingerscot · 08/03/2019 13:47

Assuming there is no proof the baby was his, ie no remains to dna test, then will he get very far? the girl could just say she had slept with a number of men and had no idea who the father was, or simply deny sleeping with him at all and say he wasn’t the father?

Agree that’s besides the point though. People, woman, have body autonomy. Even if boys and men don’t like it.

FermatsTheorem · 08/03/2019 13:48

Aimed at a few posts back.

S1naidSucks · 08/03/2019 13:48

I can see one has turned up, already.

Thereshegoesagain · 08/03/2019 13:48

I'm watching Classic EastEnders on UKTV ( don't judge me)
Currently, Michelle and Lofty are married, they have discussed and planned to have a child, they have discussed that Lofty stays at home with the children and Michelle will go back to work.
Michelle is pregnant and is about to have an abortion.
I truly believe in your body, your decision. However in this ( fictional, but not necessarily far fetched) scenario, it does seem very unfair to Lofty that Michelle will do this without having to tell or get consent from Lofty.

ThunderStorms · 08/03/2019 13:49

She didn’t use contraception either. Equally to 'blame'.

MeAgainAgain · 08/03/2019 13:49

She was 16 when she had the terminations

And only 6 WEEKS pregnant

She couldn't have done it any quicker if she'd tried.

The case - in being allowed to be heard - has ALREADY meant that foetuses now have the same rights as born people in Alabama, if I read the article right.

Naming the foetus Baby Roe shows where this is headed.

And as for the girl - 18 now - this is all about HIM punishing HER for not doing what she was told. And now she has to think about it every day and go through court cases - and the foetus has been NAMED this must be incredibly traumatising for her.

If he cares so much about children then how about not having sex with a 16yo girl without protection, huh? Because 16 is still not fully grown. I see 16yo as children.

Nasty little bastard isn't he

burritofan · 08/03/2019 13:50

men can’t have babies. She cold hand it over to him like a (surrogate) and fight for the law to absolve her of all future responsibilities.
Because carrying a baby to term, with all the physical discomfort that entails, and going through childbirth, is just so easy! Let alone doing all that with the added mental anguish of it being an unwanted baby.

If this boy doesn't want women he sleeps with to ever have abortions, he needs to be celibate.

Bellasorellaa · 08/03/2019 13:51

idiot
her body

icannotremember · 08/03/2019 13:52

Biology, innit? Men get one point at which to decide whether to risk getting someone pregnant. The condom/no condom moment. Women get two - contraception plus abortion. Because they are the ones who bear the physical risk in carrying a pregnancy.

Bodily autonomy. It's not complicated.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 08/03/2019 13:52

Well considering that Alabama law still allows child marriage this really isn’t so shocking. Alabama is not really a part of the developed world.

PaintBySticker · 08/03/2019 13:52

I can see there’s a balance of rights between the unborn baby and the mother while the baby is in the mother’s body. For example, even for a wanted baby there may be medical treatments for the mother that would harm the baby. And I believe the law is correct that the mother’s rights take precedence. The father’s rights should be non-existent while the baby is in the mother’s body. So it’s neither here nor there whether the baby is his too.

MeAgainAgain · 08/03/2019 13:52

"the girl could just say she had slept with a number of men and had no idea who the father was, "

I'm not sure this is the wisest approach in her neck of the woods and at her age.

In general people have a large amount of condemnation for girls of 16 who are sexually active, let alone if it's with lots of men, and for whatever reason. Misogyny is alive and well all over the world.

kaytee87 · 08/03/2019 13:53

She didn’t use contraception either. Equally to 'blame'.

And she fixed her 'mistake'.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 08/03/2019 13:53

Sorry, enough going on in this country without getting hysterical about other legislators.

The wonderful thing about democracy is anyone has the freedom to challenge it - rightly so. It'll be slung out, and rightly so.

BreakYourselfAgainstMyStones · 08/03/2019 13:54

What the fuck.

Does that mean men should be able to force women to have abortions if they don't want to be a father too.

Where will men's rights over women's bodies end ffs.

feelingverylazytoday · 08/03/2019 13:54

*She didn't use contraception either. Equally to 'blame'.
So what? She doesn't want to use her body to gestate or give birth to a baby. What the fuck has that got to do with anyone else, other than her health care provider)
