To think that Martina Navratilova should not have to apologise for the transgender comment?

Nickersnackersnockers · 03/03/2019 12:47

Rachel McKinnon is a transgender cyclist, who, surprise surprise, is winning races against women.

Ok, maybe Navratilova shouldn't have used the word cheated, but surely nobody can disagree with the fact that Ms McKinnon has a male body, and the size and strength of a man, and having the right to compete against women is just plain wrong?

Here's an idea, let's have a separate transgender event.

I agree with this. Trans people in sex segregated sports muddies the water and results in a lot of unneccessary negativity towards trans people, most of whom are just trying to live their lives and be happy, the same as anyone else.

Add an additional category.

Fairenuff · 03/03/2019 14:24

McKinnon also claims to know more about this subject that 'anyone in the world' yet refuses to debate with anyone who has access to facts, figures and science.

Singlewhiteguineapig · 03/03/2019 14:28

I HAVE THE PERFECT SOLUTION ... Star
Let male, female and trans athletes all take part in sport together but get rid of all competition. So no gold, silver or bronze and instead a little medal for taking part, a bit like primary school. Say goodbye to all sponsorship and financial gain and hello to happy and egalitarian physical activity.

12yr old DS enjoys running.
He doesn't train, he isn't in a club and only runs a couple times a month. Even then he now comes so high up the parkrun finishers that last time he noticed there were hardly any women around him.
Women cannot train or try harder because they simply don't have the body to beat men at that level.

DauntlessFaction · 03/03/2019 14:32

Add an additional category.

Just one 'trans' category for both trans men and trans women? Surely that would be unfair also then? Wouldn't a trans men category and a trans woman category be needed if it about fairness and not just about transphobia?

longtimelurkerhelen · 03/03/2019 14:32

This is madness, how were they allowed to compete? May as well give up now women. She should not apologise for speaking the truth.

@PinkyU

Some men. Not every man is stronger, faster etc, etc than every woman. Are you crazy or just deluded? Of course the vast majority are bigger, faster and stronger. You are talking shite.

GassyAss · 03/03/2019 14:34

@SardineQueenII dammit, I really probably should have just tried harder. Would that have made me grow taller too? Grin

Intohellbutstayingstrong · 03/03/2019 14:36

Oh FFS...... give them a category each. Job done. Hmm

feelingverylazytoday · 03/03/2019 14:39

Of course Martina shouldn't apologise. What for, telling the truth? I'm pretty sure she won't back down anyway.

catgirl1976 · 03/03/2019 14:41

He’s a cheat, a narcissist and a coward who refuses to debate anyone but hides behind his keyboard.

PotteryGirl · 03/03/2019 14:43

I think you need to lobby the governing bodies of the sports to stop this happening. I find RM to be so self centred and aggressive that any arguing against this Transwoman ( I'll give her a capital T but she can't have the Woman bit alone) will only result in high media attention and an ugly argument. The world is going mad. #Vive la femme.

Snowdrifthill · 03/03/2019 14:44

The coverage of this on the BBC’s news website is so biased. The photo that accompanies it even shows a pose where Rachel McKinnon is squatting down so you can’t see the difference in height and muscle mass between her and the other medal winners.

If there's a trans woman who you don't feel is taking advantage, do you call her a woman?

Many people seem to have a problem with calling a trans woman a woman even if she's just quietly living her life.

Fairenuff · 03/03/2019 15:03

I think you need to lobby the governing bodies of the sports to stop this happening.

This has come from the governing bodies.

The International Olympic Committee set the rules to allow male bodied people to comete with women provided they a) say they identify as female and b) get their testosterone levels down to a level that is still higher than most females.

That's it. Do that and you're in. That's how McKinnon got in.

Bluestitch · 03/03/2019 15:07

What makes RM a woman please, Dauntless?

Bluestitch · 03/03/2019 15:09

And no I don't believe TWAW. I generally use 'they' as a compromise but I don't extend that courtesy to horrible misogynists.

DauntlessFaction · 03/03/2019 15:11

Bluestitch

Could you answer my question above.

Thanks

DauntlessFaction · 03/03/2019 15:11

Ah, just seen your answer, that makes things much clearer. Thanks.

Bluestitch · 03/03/2019 15:12

I just did, now if you could tell me how RM is a woman that'd be great thanks.

WarpedGalaxy · 03/03/2019 15:13

YANBU OP. Others have expressed my thoughts on this far more succinctly and eloquently than I could. Sporting and gay rights legend Martina Navratilova need not apologize to anyone (let alone an entitled, obnoxious misogynist and homophobe like RM no matter what gender ‘she’ identifies as) for stating the simple, plain and obvious truth that those with male human bodies have distinct physiological advantages over those with female bodies. This is not about inclusivity it’s about a level playing field.

Good for her for sticking her head above the parapet to point out the nakedness of the Emperor and for those like Sharron Davies, Kelly Holmes, Sally Gunnell, Daley Thomson et al for stepping up to support her. Team Martina all the way.

KingHenrysCodpiece · 03/03/2019 15:14

McKinnon is sexually attracted to biological women. McKinnon says this makes McKinnon a lesbian

McKinnon says those lesbians who are biological women can learn to 'cope' with penises.

McKinnon says lesbians who are biological women and who exclude people with penises from their sexual partners are transphobes

The world has gone crazy. Well I might as well teach my son the earth is flat and rests on the back of a giant Tortoise. I think that he is under the impression that the world is roughly a sphere and travels around the sun or something, but I'll soon disabuse him of that notion. Since we have dispensed with factsHmm

PotteryGirl · 03/03/2019 15:14

Bloody Hell, IOC are like sheep. Look at the hoops that Caster Semenya has to jump through. She is intersex (I believe) and works hard to keep her T levels down but she's soooo strong, it's incredible . I follow cycling and remember when RM took the Masters title...Bloody travesty. She's not a nice character.

justmesathereyawning · 03/03/2019 15:14

McKinnon was born with a penis.
McKinnon reached adulthood via male puberty. The physical advantages that this has conferred are obvious, looking at the pictures of McKinnon next to competitors born without penises, who reached adulthood via female puberty. What are those people called again? Oh yes. Women.

McKinnon is not a woman and does not belong in women's sports. The fact that the "rules" currently allow this does not make it right.

McKinnon is also a self-styled "expert" in justifying this absurdity through spurious "research". This is a situation most usually described as "a conflict of interests". But "cheat" will suffice.

PotteryGirl · 03/03/2019 15:17

Oh my god...do you see what I did there. 'She's'....I'll never live that down...I've gone as mad as the world..
