DS doing drugs...

Hi,

Really just posting here for traffic I'm going to be honest.

Anyone else have a 16 y/o and please can you tell me realistically how common you think smoking weed is of this current generation of teens.

I have been worried for a while DS is playing with recreational drugs and basically have caught him (DH found a video on social media and everything spiralled from there). DS is very blaze and assures us "everyone is smoking weed"...

Mumsnet... what do you reckon?
Obviously i know it isn't everyone... however the school seems to think this is "very common in teens at the moment" as well ?! Confused not sure if this is widespread or just my area.

Thanks

Fucking right it is. Netmums is very naice I believe...

wishingforalotterywin · 01/03/2019 22:32

I read somewhere earlier this week that the figure for teens is around 5% if I can remember where I read it I'll post the link

Nutkin123 · 01/03/2019 22:33

I wouldn't worry too much about it! Most people I know smoked weed as a teenager and are all fully functioning adults doing well in life now! I think the attitude towards weed is very different to when I was a teenager (i.e legalising in certain states in America and canada) - don't worry, but keep an open dialogue with your son about it just in case x

MiGi777 · 01/03/2019 22:33

I agree with @Thatsnotmyotter and I'm stunned by what @IWonderedLonelyAsACloud said!!!
My daughter and almost ALL of her friends are now at university! My son too and his friends. I know many people who smoke and a lot of them have degrees, great careers etc.... You're not a bad parent, take no notice. 💐

That's right Nutkin. Mine started at 14 and now in their 30s. One now Manager of his own retail shop and one running his own business. Neither drink alcohol and I would much rather weed than alcohol.

Houseonahill · 01/03/2019 22:36

I think it depends a lot on your area

Enjoyed @LellowYedbetter's comments 😂 @hayden555 you sound a little small minded in judging people's parenting skills.

DesolationCrow · 01/03/2019 22:38

What are you adding to this thread, Hayden, apart from judgemental bilge, and a total cultural clash with the British vernacular?

Really, you arent helping.

Whilst pot use in teens is not ideal, it is very common.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 01/03/2019 22:39

Hahahahaha! Hayden you are the gift that keeps on giving aren't you. Don't get your knickers in such a twist mate. Some of us are quite nice really Grin

DesolationCrow · 01/03/2019 22:39

Are you American, Hayden? These are not little kids. They are young adults?

jalpie · 01/03/2019 22:39

@IWonderedLonelyAsACloud get off your high horse and maybe wait until you have some life experience under your belt before you lecture others!

@missjacks i would try not to worry and focus more on keeping lines of communication open with your son - experimenting with weed is pretty normal :)

VioletCharlotte · 01/03/2019 22:40

Where I live it's really common. My 17 year old DS doesn't smoke it, but says that most people his age do (there's some personal reasons why he won't touch it). It's a huge problem. People think it's safe as it's 'just weed' but it's pretty dangerous stuff. I work for the NHS for a mental health trust and have seen the damage it can do. The weed that's available these days is very different to the stuff that was about in the 80's or 90's, it's much stronger and really addictive.

Please don't blame your parenting. Some of the kids I know who are into it come from really lovely families and have been given plenty of support and opportunities. If they get in with the wrong crowd, it's very difficult for parents to stop it.

@Hayden555
What is wrong with you? Why are you being so agressive??
Can you shush so we can chat, as a caring mother, this person is genuinely concerned about her son.

bluddleuddleumdum · 01/03/2019 22:42

Jesus Christ can someone point Hayden in the direction of the grip shop

Lovingbenidorm · 01/03/2019 22:42

Cheers Hayden
I must confess I’m sometimes bewildered on here by the number of things mys teens are apparently doing and I’m being “deluded “
I’m not diminishing the issues parents face with teens, and obviously some are going through some hard times but I’d really like to point out that it’s not so unbelievable to have a teenager who isn’t drinking, smoking, taking drugs, having sex or telling lies.
It’s not ‘normal’ or ‘expected’

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 01/03/2019 22:42

My kids are on drugs? Gosh. Thanks for the heads up HaydenSmile. Now do wind your neck in, there's a dear.

LellowYedbetter · 01/03/2019 22:43

Hayden is hilarious 😂 she/he bites every time!

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 01/03/2019 22:44

I know it's great. We stop really
