Please help - DD at sleepover and horror movies being suggested

DD 13 is at a sleepover with 10 girls and they want to watch Jigsaw or Saw - both 18 rated. She really doesn't and has made other suggestions eg Sixth Sense but no buy in. I don't want to go and collect her but don't know what else to suggest. These movies sound dreadful! And I'm concerned she will be terrified afterwards. Any suggestions?

Are there any parents at the house? I’m pretty lenient about what Dd watches but there’s no way I’d be happy with her watching those films. Could you text the parent & ask if they know what the kids are watching?

Think I will have to. But it will be obvious my DD has been communicating about it. I'm glad you don't think I'm over reacting

My Dd is the same age as yours & has friends that are not allowed to watch 15 films due to swearing, I doubt if you’re the only parent that wouldn’t be happy about the film choice

If it’s a big issue, make your excuses to go and collect her. 13 year olds can be cruel, if they find out she stopped them watching it e.g by you texting the mum - they will most likely take the piss out of her and it’s not worth it.

I'd go and get her. I watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Saw films, Hostel etc. at similar age because my friends older sister would give them to us at sleepovers and I had all kinds of sleep problems afterwards but I wouldn't tell my parents! It's great she's told you and I would personally go get her. We underestimate the damage this kind of material can have I think.

That's what I think too but DD seems to be the only one who is taking that into account. They're probably all trying to look cool

It is tricky because you don’t want to drop her in it with her friends, how well do you know the parents?

I dont see a problem with it if she likes horrors. But clearly she doesn't so she should lie and say she's poorly and needs to go home.

Go around and say younhave to take her away unless they pick a new film? Surely her friends would pick a new film then and that way she can stay?

Text her and ask if she wants you to collect her, make up an excuse as to why you need to, don't mention the film to the girls or parents though

I would be livid if my dd went to a sleepover and they watched an 18 let alone a horror!!!!

They are certified 18 for a reason!

I love horrors myself and saws are one of my fav franchise however no way should a child watch them!

I have a 14 year old too. Ringing the parents will be socisl suicide so don't do that. Ask her what she wants you to do if anything. Otherwise tell her to watch something on her phone while it's on.

Those films are horrible, I had to sleep with the light on after watching Saw (and I was 32!).

I'd either invent an emergency or get her to pretend to be ill.

Ps they probably are the only original saw film was the first one. It's all gore v boring!

Redken - Tried that! I've also said she should say she isn't allowed to watch an 18 film. Not cool but surely the same for most of them

Presuming she wants to stay mates with this group the best thing will be if you invent an emergency that means she has to leave ie aunts Julie has been rushed to a hospital 75 miles away .

Bless. She watches all sorts now at 20 but wasn’t ready for it all pre 18/19

They are grim as hell movies, I found them gross as an adult
