Pretending that I did it ...

So.. I am no chef but I can bake.. my OH asked me for a carrot cake sometime soon.. usually I would be happy to run round the supermarket get the ingredients and stand in the kitchen to turn out a half decent baked delight some hours later

But

I’m tired. It’s half term. I’m run crazy with two children with additional needs, no school or nursery breaks and trying to keep the house and I’m on a diet myself ... so I cheated.

I contacted a cake maker ordered the cake and was gutted to see how professional it looked when I collected it today considering how much u paid for it... in the need to make it seem I baked it lovingly for him I brought it home and have roughed it up a little... ( smudges in the Cream cheese frosting, a dent here a dent there and whizzed up some pecans and walnuts and whacked them on top...

Unfortunately the real baker had gone to the effort of making little sugar paste carrot decorations which she seems to have apples with a orange substance so I removed them and will just say I attempted a decoration that failed...

Does this cake look home made but not too fancy/ professional? Why do I even care ? 😂😂 I guess I love him and wanted to give him something he wanted and of course all the thanks of how lovely it is and how hard I must have worked

CaptainBrickbeard
I think the significant factor is that OP's DH is a chef. He presumably spends long hours preparing food for others, so for him, having someone lovingly prepare food for him makes it special.

I'm guessing that having food bought for him might not be the same because the actual process of food preparation means a great deal to him (more than it might to a non-chef).

Anyway, that is my interpretation of what the OP has posted.

And that's why I'm baffled by people finding the whole thing "hysterical" . Yes I do know we all view things differently, but - there is no inherent humour in the situation. It's not the same as getting one over the snobby PTA or the interfering MIL Confused

Aridane · 25/02/2019 21:52

I think the posters saying it's hysterical are trying to counteract the po faced priggishness of some posters...

RaffertyFair · 25/02/2019 21:59

Why are those of us who don't think it's funny, labelled po -faced, priggish, negative, lacking a sense of humour etc.?

CaptainBrickbeard · 25/02/2019 22:07

It still doesn’t make sense to me. Anyone normal would say ‘I couldn’t bake one myself but know you wanted carrot cake so I’ve bought this amazing one for you’ and partner would be delighted. Where is the humour in bashing it up, ruining the decorations and still ending up with the washing up to try and fake it - pointlessly? I know I need to forget about this now.

RaffertyFair · 25/02/2019 22:16

I agree completely CaptainBrickbeard as do the vast majority of people on the thread because they almost all describe OP's behaviour as odd (or weird or batshitGrin)

He's an ex Chef according to the OP. He drives a taxi now.

RaffertyFair · 26/02/2019 00:39

Makes even less sense then!

I really did try to understand you OP, but failed.

givemesteel · 26/02/2019 02:21

My main question (other than where did you find someone who would make that for £20) is was it nicer than your usual cake? That would be my concern is that he will now always ask for the recipe you used in Feb half term 2019 and either no cake will ever live up to it and he'll be disappointed or you'll be consigned to buying him cakes by this Baker forever more.

oatmilk4breakfast · 26/02/2019 07:24

But this is the thing OP - he knows how things taste - what if she used some ingredient you wouldn’t have thought of? What’s her method?

Crunchymum · 26/02/2019 10:42

Some people must be rolling is cash to commission a cake like this (yeah it was a steal at £20 but that's still a lot for a cake you can get for less than a quarter of that price!!)

cheeseypuff · 26/02/2019 10:58

If he's an ex chef tell him to make his own fecking carrot cake next time Hmm

BertrandRussell · 26/02/2019 11:00

Tell you who isn’t rolling in cash-the woman who ade that cake for 20 quid!

BlackCatSleeping · 26/02/2019 11:29

Maybe she used a packet mix? 😆

RagingWhoreBag · 26/02/2019 16:03

Maybe she bought it from Costco and is passing it off as homemade?

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 26/02/2019 17:22

Ooh - a twist!! I like it!

I'm imagining the cake-maker cackling....

Bathbombs · 26/02/2019 19:37

I thought the op’s DH was a taxi driver?

LittlePaintBox · 26/02/2019 20:52

Tell you who isn’t rolling in cash-the woman who ade that cake for 20 quid!

Unless she has a neighbour who bakes her cakes for ten quid each!

StoppinBy · 27/02/2019 01:29

Anyone who thinks that the lady made money off this cake

  • Carrot Cake
  • Cream Cheese Icing
  • Cake board
  • Sugar decorations

is crazier than the OP lol

burntdinner · 27/02/2019 03:19

I think you did a really nice thing for your DH , and if he knew you bought it but made it look homemade I think he would be impressed that you wanted to please him with a much nicer than shop bought cake but without having to make it yourself during the holidays ,
I'm also Sussex by the sea and would love to buy a carrot cake for £20 !

Soopertooter · 02/03/2019 13:46

This is really strange. I cannot understand why you would go to such lengths to lie about a cake. It would just never cross my mind to lie about something so trivial :/
