Pretending that I did it ...

So.. I am no chef but I can bake.. my OH asked me for a carrot cake sometime soon.. usually I would be happy to run round the supermarket get the ingredients and stand in the kitchen to turn out a half decent baked delight some hours later

But

I’m tired. It’s half term. I’m run crazy with two children with additional needs, no school or nursery breaks and trying to keep the house and I’m on a diet myself ... so I cheated.

I contacted a cake maker ordered the cake and was gutted to see how professional it looked when I collected it today considering how much u paid for it... in the need to make it seem I baked it lovingly for him I brought it home and have roughed it up a little... ( smudges in the Cream cheese frosting, a dent here a dent there and whizzed up some pecans and walnuts and whacked them on top...

Unfortunately the real baker had gone to the effort of making little sugar paste carrot decorations which she seems to have apples with a orange substance so I removed them and will just say I attempted a decoration that failed...

Does this cake look home made but not too fancy/ professional? Why do I even care ? 😂😂 I guess I love him and wanted to give him something he wanted and of course all the thanks of how lovely it is and how hard I must have worked

It’s called love .
Just make a mixtape like every other 15-year-old.

callmeadoctor · 24/02/2019 16:28

Just revisited this thread, people actually believed it? Grin

IvanaPee · 24/02/2019 16:40

Oh my god, it’s a total wind up, isn’t it?! 😂

TheFirstRuleOfFightClub · 24/02/2019 16:43

17 pages about a cake. There are some right fruit cakes on here though granted! 😂😂😂

Wish my DH would do this for me!

Halloumimuffin · 24/02/2019 16:44

That cake doesn't look bloody homemade for a start!

I like to impress my dh too, with things I've actually done. Otherwise, well, what is actually impressive about you?

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 24/02/2019 17:09

I'm with the OP. Don't care if she made it up either.

Thanks for making me laugh OP and enjoy the cake (or some other cake if you did make it up).

Costacoffeeplease · 24/02/2019 17:13

Methinks she doth protest too much

cheapskatemum · 24/02/2019 17:27

I think I’d have just said, “it’s a bit difficult this week, with the kids on half term, but I’ll make one next week no problem.” Surely that’s easier than all the subterfuge?

cherish123 · 24/02/2019 17:33

Could OH not make his/her own cake?

Palaver1 · 24/02/2019 17:37

Thats an awful thing to do
You do know that they requested no to shop bought due to health and safety issues
So many people have allergies to different things ie nuts and you knew that was the reason why they requested no shop bought stuff so they could be sure of the ingredients in items that were donated

PurpleDaisies · 24/02/2019 17:40

You’re talking nonsense palaver. Shop bought is likely to be much safer than stuff people have made.

“No shop bought” will be a snobbery thing, not health and safety.

extraspoons · 24/02/2019 17:40

Why can't he bake his own cake?

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 24/02/2019 17:43

Not awful in the least i declared all ingredients sat and typed them from the packaging

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 24/02/2019 17:45

It’s not a H&S issue in the least. It’s a head up theor collective jacksies issue
And other folk made cakes with nuts, gluten, hydrogenated fats, and additives
There was no requirement or request to be nut free,at all

Palaver1 · 24/02/2019 17:45

Purpledaisies
Please dont mock this
Its not nonsense

Palaver1 · 24/02/2019 17:47

Caution with this sort of prank

colourrunruinedmyhair · 24/02/2019 17:47

Been there done that op, go for it. My ex mil used to slate everything I made so I did this with a cake when they were visiting once, of course she hated it then when we went to the same bakery the next day (it was a cafe tea shop type place) she ordered carrot cake -the exact same cake made by the exact same woman and it was far superior to ‘my cake’ she even told me I should ask for lessons. Always made me feel a bit smug knowing I’d got one over on her. Grin

PurpleDaisies · 24/02/2019 17:48

How many gone bakers can guarantee their kitchen is but/gluten/whatever free? How many home bakers’ kitchens have been inspected by environmental health and how many hold food hygiene and safety certificates? Hmm

You are talking nonsense.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 24/02/2019 17:48

The request was no shop bought, that’s all
No other dietary restrictions were reqd, and to be mindful I typed an ingredient list.PTA didn’t actually ask for ingredient list.
Their vision was a rustic homebaked, mommy made cake

PurpleDaisies · 24/02/2019 17:48

That was for palaver and should say ^home bakers

dragonsfire · 24/02/2019 17:50

This has just cracked me up - well done OP I read this out to my DH and he laughed and thought was ingenious.

Ignore the negative nellys!

Mmmmmm carrot cake 🤤

ShowMeTheKittens · 24/02/2019 17:53

eh? You bought a cake and messed it up because you want to kid your closest person you made it?
It all seems to fibbing to me.
It's flipping easy to make a cake. You just follow a recipe. Cream cheese frosting is easy too.
Oh well.

Palaver1 · 24/02/2019 17:56

Daisy its not to do with glutten
Remember that incident with pret
That's just one but i know of a personal experience
People say its rubbish its rubbish till they learn the hard way

Palaver1 · 24/02/2019 17:57

Lipstick
I hear you but please be cautious

TedAndLola · 24/02/2019 18:01
