I am glad that this monster has been named publicly. The idea that he would have been protected after murdering Alesha MacPhail made me sick. His picture is all over the news now.

Like Mitchell must be in his 30s now. Polmont is for young offenders aged 16-21.

MrsJayy · 22/02/2019 15:58

Luke Mitchell was probably moved from Young offenders

Nicknacky · 22/02/2019 15:59

Luke Mitchell was in Polmont as a youth.

CarolDanvers · 22/02/2019 16:00

As I said, it would have been insane to protect his identity after the horrific murder he committed.

In what way would it have been insane? Serious question.

DonaldTwain · 22/02/2019 16:00

The reason why people who commit heinous crimes are named is not to serve a practical purpose. It is because, in a healthy, decent society, public condemnation and opprobrium attaches to such crimes and that is part of the offenders punishment. Murderes are punished and seen to be punished. That is important.

Pursefirst · 22/02/2019 16:00

Or do you think that a wife beating rapist is somehow a better bet than a child killer?

If that question was directed at me, then let me respond. I believe that prisons need to be tougher overall and I absolutely believe that, for serious, violent offenders, privileges such as tv/gaming/etc should not be granted. These individuals committed vile atrocities against other humans, some of them children, so I absolutely do not see why prison should be a nice, safe place for them.

Now with respect to the fact that I suggested he should be placed in gen pop, I understand your comment and other PPs comments about how the individuals that would potentially harm this filth would be doing it to gain notoriety; however, I still strongly believe that no extra efforts should be made to see to his comfort and safety.

The crime he committed was so abhorrent that I do not believe that there is any way that this scum can be rehabilitated. And unfortunately, I have no idea what a more suitable alternative could be for these criminals.

NunoGoncalves · 22/02/2019 16:01

I'm sure there is some middle ground between being flogged to death and being granted Xbox privileges and round the clock protection

Yes, and it's probably close to the reality, aka he is going to spend most of or the rest of his life in solitary confinement in aa very small room.

Nicknacky · 22/02/2019 16:03

purse Regardless if you like it or not, the prison service do need to try and ensure his safety (although I’m in not doubt he will be subject of an attack at some point).

And I’m glad they do that otherwise the prisons would be anarchy and what good does that do anyone?

Groovee · 22/02/2019 16:03

One of the news reports claimed last night that he had been kicking up a fuss over the travelling from Polmont to Glasgow and back again during the case.

He'll be in Polmont until he is off age to move to an adult prison.

But Polmont has been in the papers for the high amount of suicides amongst the offenders housed there.

Pursefirst · 22/02/2019 16:03

@NunoGoncalves we can only hope, but given how well he allegedly came across during the trial, I would not be one bit surprised if he is released after serving a short sentence.

movinonup · 22/02/2019 16:04

Does anyone know if Alesha's visitation to her Father was court ordered at all?
Have looked online but could not see any mention of it, Just wondered if anyone else has.

(Asking for personal reasons, Nothing else)

NunoGoncalves · 22/02/2019 16:05

Pursefirst deliberately putting him in amongst other violent offenders in the hope they might maim or kill him just seems so medieval. If you want them dead it'd be better to just reinstate the death penalty.

Pursefirst · 22/02/2019 16:07

f you want them dead it'd be better to just reinstate the death penalty.

Honestly, for crimes such as these, part of me wonders whether that would be such a terrible thing.

FuerzaAreaUruguay · 22/02/2019 16:08

Ah, okay, I see! Thanks for clarifying. Of course Campbell cannot be in population! Duh! They have a duty to protect him so he has to be in the hole, but a telly and Xbox are suitable entertainment because what else do you expect them to do?

Theresa Riggi was eventually moved to Rampton, but yes, she was attacked in Cornton Vale.

Springwalk · 22/02/2019 16:10

I am surprised they lifted the ban on publishing his name. This is usually done at eighteen. I am not sure what they hope to achieve by allowing this earlier than usual.

The more pressing question might he why on earth a popular, intelligent young boy of sixteen would carry out such a dispicable act. Every effort with professionals should be made to find out why on gods earth he ever did such a terrible thing, and the findings made public. He is incredibly dangerous and without remorse.

MrsJayy · 22/02/2019 16:11

That information isn't going to be on the internet it really isn't public information but it just seems the little girl was seeing her granparents and dad

Springwalk · 22/02/2019 16:12

If he is segregated he won’t necessarily have a tv or an Xbox. They would need to be ‘earnt’ with good behaviour.

MerdedeBrexit · 22/02/2019 16:13

He came across so well during the trial that the jury unanimously found him guilty after three hours of deliberation. So I think your prediction is probably quite wrong, also given the judge's remarks about the horror of the crime itself, Pursefirst.

FuerzaAreaUruguay · 22/02/2019 16:13

Okay, yeah, I see. Think he must be about 30 now. Which appeal is he on now? I know the law was changed fairly recently due to Tobin launching appeal after appeal and then not turning up in court for them, each appeal costing approximately £300k. Those two dads, Vicky Hamilton's and Dinah McNichol's, always turning up to give statements.

FuerzaAreaUruguay · 22/02/2019 16:15

Like that will ever happen in this age of budget cuts. I could sooner raise the dead.

Pursefirst · 22/02/2019 16:15

@MerdedeBrexit I 100% hope that my prediction turns out to be incorrect. There is no way that this individual should ever be released back into society.

NCforthis2019 · 22/02/2019 16:16

no - he wont be murdered in jail - i meant there will be people who will attempt to attack him/murder him in prison, because of the nature of his crime.

MrsJayy · 22/02/2019 16:18

STV news have posted a video of him jumping on a trampoline , I don't understand why they thought this was ok.

DarlingNikita · 22/02/2019 16:18

he will receive treatment on the inside which will determine soon enough whether he has psychological issues

I'm a bit confused about why psychological exams weren't done before his trial, to be considered as part of the evidence. At least, I haven't read that they were.

AuchAyeTheNo · 22/02/2019 16:18

It’s for situations like this I really wish this country still had the death penalty.
