I am glad that this monster has been named publicly. The idea that he would have been protected after murdering Alesha MacPhail made me sick. His picture is all over the news now.

he wont last long in prison - child rapists/murderers rarely do.

Is that true? If we can't stop people being murdered in prison then something needs to change.

To be honest I don't really think it makes much difference one way or the other. He did something horrible and ruined a family's lives forever. Naming him or not will never change that.

Around cases like this there always seems to be what I think the internet calls "virtue signalling"? Where people feel a great need to publicly proclaim how sickened they are by it all and how much they want the perpetrator to suffer.

With regard her mum not knowing, it was a very fast paced situation. If memory serves me it was only 2 1/2 hours from Alesha being reported missing to being found and her mum lived in Airdrie.

Like others said, she may not have been home or not answering her phone.

I blame the people that made it obvious on the grandmothers fb that Alesha had been found dead for her mother finding out that

You are right it was all over facebook by the time i loggedon in the morning i saw her mums post on the grans face which had been shared The poor girl was distraught but it was really early in the morning she maybe had been asleep andnot heard her phone or had it off

This boils my blood, why should he be given ANY protection for what he did to an innocent, defenceless child?? Throw him into gen pop and if he ends up on the wrong side of a sharp object then so be it. because two wrongs don’t make a right. We don’t have capital punishment in this country, and while I can’t exactly shed a tear for the likes of Harold Shipman or Fred west who decided to kill themselves the reality is that all criminals are in prison for a reason. One murderer killing another isn’t exactly something to celebrate, and we don’t live by the code of vigilante justice in this country, the one who kills a sixteen year old is then no better than he is. I think given the defence lodged, the public have a right to know the actual killer's name and hope it will now replace the name of Aleesha's father's girlfriend in the public's consciousness.

If it had been a Syrian refugee, there'd be an absolute flurry of racist comments btl on most articles. 'Journalists' like Katie Hopkins would be sounding off. I only wish male violence would get people so angry. Perhaps then we'd stand a chance of fixing it.

While I would generally agree with this statement, the sheer depravity and violence of the crime, and the fact that the perpetrator is completely unrepentant makes me question why resources are being expended to protect this filth.

Because it wouldn't exactly look good for the Prison system if he was murdered in jail. And there will be lots of willing men in there who would want to make a name for themselves by attacking him.

The likes of Katie Hopkins get a genuine thrill when a crime happens that they think might be perpetrated by a refugee. They don't give two figs about the victim. Her interest in the case will have ended once she realised the murderer was home-grown.

It's just part and parcel of living in a civilised society tbh. It doesn't always feel great, but it's important to uphold certain principles. Especially when it doesn't feel great, in fact.

I'm sure there are countries where they would publicly flog him to death, I'm not sure you would prefer to live there though.

Sorry posted early... he dragged Alesha’s fathers girlfriend into proceedings by accusing her of being involved. It was disgraceful he was allowed to do that in open court. Had he pleaded guilty he would have saved a full trial and, had he not dragged that poor woman’s name through the mud, the judge may have allowed him to remain anonymous.

@NunoGoncalves I'm sure there is some middle ground between being flogged to death and being granted Xbox privileges and round the clock protection.

Peter Tobin has been attacked in jail ( stabbed by a rapist) and I believe Ian Huntley has also been cut/ slashed by another prisoner. So attacks do happen. Theresa Roggi who killed her own children was also attacked and knifed while in Corton Vale. A lot of the young offenders in Polmont are violent offenders ( serious assault, culpable homicide) so I would say the chances are one of them will have a go at him.

Report
Quintella · 22/02/2019 15:46

There will probably be competition to see who can be the first to slash him.

Of course not all psychopaths are violent. But the chances of him being a psychopath are high.

But we don’t actually know that he is being granted xbox privileges do we? the tabloids like to stir that one up.

And we need to think of why he is being granted full protection. Those on the inside who will wish him harm don’t want to harm him because of what he’s done, they want to be the one to do it because it will gain them notoriety on the inside. And I don’t doubt a fair few of them have rape and murder to their names even if it wasn’t of young children. Let’s not kid ourselves that he’ll be done over by fine upstanding members of society who are simply outraged on Alicia’s behalf. Most of them probably have kids they don’t see, wives they beat senseless of a Saturday night and drug dealer contacts on the outside.

Or do you think that a wife beating rapist is somehow a better bet than a child killer?

Report
toffee1000 · 22/02/2019 15:51

I have also heard that paedophiles and rapists are regarded as the lowest of the low in prisons. Child murder is probably on a similar level.

Hardly the time or the place for a trans entry is it? besides which, you do know the Sun admitted that they’d made up the story about Ian Huntley coming out as trans?
