I am glad that this monster has been named publicly. The idea that he would have been protected after murdering Alesha MacPhail made me sick. His picture is all over the news now.

I read an article that said he had a violent history killing and skinning cats etc

it called him a future serial killer that got caught on his first killing

Thank goodness. I hope he never sees the light of day again.

I am conflicted with naming him. It does ruin a lot of peripheral innocent lives. And he apparently thrives in the attention and "likes" on social media. But if it is a deterrent then maybe it's worth it?

So I'm worried that the publicity will make the next vile animal try to get the attention/notoriety this one is getting

LordPickle · 22/02/2019 21:39

I just want to say that I agree with @Pursefirst 100%.

I only hope no-one has a go at any of his relatives, or someone with the same surname.

Nicknacky · 22/02/2019 21:43

I doubt people will start targeting people called Campbell, it’s an extremely common surname in Scotland.

Nicknacky · 22/02/2019 21:44

7th most common in Scotland apparently.

AuntieStella · 22/02/2019 21:50

Today has been a day of extremes in the news.

I woke up to watch the BBC giving extensive coverage to the fly-past in Sheffield for the crew of 10 young men in a stricken plane in WW2, whose only hope was to come down on an open space, but they did not, for there were children playing on it. Instead they crashed into the adjacent wooded area, all souls on board lost, but no children died. One of those children - now in his 80s - has tended the memorial daily, was the prime mover for getting the fly-past, and saluted the planes as they went over today. They laid down their lives to spare the children.

Then at the end of the day, there's this.

I know which sort of young man I would rather have in the world.

RIP crew of Mi Amigo
RIP Aleysha

Pursefirst · 22/02/2019 21:53

@LordPickle, thanks, clearly a bleeding heart felt the need to report my post and HQ duly deleted it Hmm but I stand by my beliefs. I have not one iota of sympathy for a monster like that and I do not feel that he can be rehabilitated.

LagunaBubbles · 22/02/2019 21:56

Do you know how common a surname Campbell is in Scotland?

midsomermurderess · 22/02/2019 22:00

Luke Mitchell's tariff was reduced from 20 to 15 on appeal It having been held to be too harsh given his age. Anyway, Campbell will be sentenced in March, then we'll know.

MarthasGinYard · 22/02/2019 22:04

Hope the sick bastard dies a horrible death....soon

I started this thread because I have no sympathy for that monster and I wanted to talk about it. He deserves whatever he gets and it burns me up to think he's languishing in solitary playing xbox and watching tv.

Fuck him.

@YouBumder agree actually with the mother - she can never escape it either.

But the girlfriend being young and stupid? Nah I took full responsibility for my actions and beliefs at 16. A 16 year old may not be fully mature but no sane 16 year old can think "Ah yes my boyfriend killed a little girl, raped her and mutilated her-- but he just made a mistake!" it's just not how a sane person thinks.

My sisters best friend was murdered over a decade ago. Kicked and punched to death by two guys who 'didn't like poofs'. They were arrogant in court, yet they will be out soon. The shocking thing is one was released early and was supposed to still be inside when this took place.

Some people just take pleasure in others suffering.

Barkette · 22/02/2019 22:52

As someone who has lost their mother to murder I really hope that the family of the convicted are not targeted. It took a lot of soul searching for our family to not feel anger and upset towards the whole family of the man who did this to us. However ultimately you can bring your children up in perfect circumstances but they are in control of their own decisions. I feel so sorry for the Macphail family as what they are going through is incomprehensible but the mother of the perpetrator has also become a victim in this too. So very sad for all concerned for such a unnecessary act

BrizzleMint · 22/02/2019 22:55

I think naming him will possibly harm his mother, who actually inadvertently reported him in the first place.

It's also harming another Scottish Aaron Campbell who doesn't look that different from the one who is guilty of the crime and is now getting sent abuse on social media.

YouBumder · 22/02/2019 22:58

I wonder if it’s more she doesn’t think he did it and has fallen for his bullshit “defence” because he’s infatuated. She might not also be 16, she may be younger. Although even his “defence” had him having sex with Toni McLachlan, hardly ideal BF material. She’ll move on, at least she’ll be able to do that.

Life should mean just that life

He should die in prison

First of all before I post anything can I just say RIP little Alesha - NOBODY can feel anything but shock, horror and repulsion for her and I absolutely can't understand why.

Only he's not a monster - he's done something so monstrous we can't understand or get our head rounds but I will never join the 'kill em' mentality - far rather keep them away from society and try and 'envisage' why they could do something so

My son is SPO (senior prison officer).

Walk a mile in his shoes before you bleat about should and could - severely understaffed and as for xbox tv in cells etc - yes I thought the same as in just take them away but live it - you have to have a reward system otherwise it's anachy - what the 'sun' newspaper claims is not the norm.

LordPickle · 23/02/2019 00:05

He hasn't actually been sentenced yet

SaturdayNext · 23/02/2019 00:10

It’s about treating him the same as everyone else.

No, it isn't, because other 16 year olds convicted of offences won't be named.

I think on balance the decision to name him was the right one, to protect others including refugees from getting the blame, but there's no need to make up the facts in order to justify it.

YouBumder · 23/02/2019 00:17

Oh, I’m sorry Saturday, out of not only that longer post explaining my view on the importance of transparency in the justice system, and my other posts, that you’ve picked out one piddling sentence that I could have possibly explained better.

I think given the nature of his crime (I can’t recall a similar crime being committed by someone under the age of 18, personally) that he should be treated the same as other offenders who commit the same kind of crimes (who tend to be over 18). Better?

YouBumder · 23/02/2019 00:25

And again, I’m happy to trust the judgment of a highly capable and experienced high court judge in ruling on the matter.

QuietContraryMary · 23/02/2019 00:39

@Sarahjconnor
"This is an absolute tragedy with 3 female victims, the dead child, the mother whose child is dead and the mother who gave birth to a psychopath who is now lost to her and the families life ruined"

3?

"The court also heard from Avril Lax, a neighbour of the MacPhail family, who said that she could hear violent arguments between Robert MacPhail and McLachlan through the wall over a three-month period during the summer of 2017.

Asked what she heard, she said: “Usually Toni screaming, the sound of skin hitting skin, Toni shouting: ‘Please somebody help me, please somebody get the police.’” She said that she had not contacted the police but that she had spoken to Robert’s parents, Alesha’s grandparents Angela King and Calum MacPhail. “They told me that I heard nothing. They didn’t want to blacken Robert’s name. There was a court case coming up for custody of Alesha.”

"Robert MacPhail is currently on bail for a charge of domestic abuse."

Toni McLachlan is also who Aaron Campbell blamed the murder on. She seems to have been in a relationship with Robert MacPhail since she was 16. She is barely older than Campbell.

"Mr McConnachie asked Robert MacPhail’s girlfriend if she brutalised Alesha with a blunt object and then planted the boy’s semen on her dead body.

Ms McLachlan, 18, denied claims she had sex with the accused killer.

She claims they shared a joint and she confided in him about domestic abuse."
