I am glad that this monster has been named publicly. The idea that he would have been protected after murdering Alesha MacPhail made me sick. His picture is all over the news now.

It just goes to show how apathy from the neighbours who witnessed 3 months worth of domestic abuse, along with the enabling grandparents how things can turn out.

If the neighbour had phoned the police when Toni was heard screaming for help while McPhail was abusing her then he may not have been able to have custody of Alesha over the summer, if he was already on bail for domestic abuse he may well have been in custody after further incidents.

If he wasn't there then the accused wouldn't have been going round to his house in search of cannabis either. The door was also left unlocked and he simply walked in and presumably found the little girl.

So many what ifs but nothing can change what's happened or bring Alesha back. I just wish people would stand up and do the right thing at the time.

LagunaBubbles · 23/02/2019 08:40

His Mum didn't phone the Police because she was concerned about him being the murderer, she phoned in an attempt to clear his name. He tried to drown a fellow child when he was 6 or 7 and had talked online for months about killing soneone. People have reported that he killed and skinned cats.

he wont last long in prison - child rapists/murderers rarely do

No one will get near him in prison. He’ll be constantly on protection. Even when he goes to a YO when he’s 18. He’ll then be moved to one of the maximum security prisons when he’s 21 - most likely Peterhead with the other vile sex offenders

AhhhHereItGoes · 23/02/2019 09:45

Peterhead is no longer in operation.

He will likely go to Glenochil or Grampian.

UserUser123 · 23/02/2019 09:58

I doubt he’ll go to Glenochil, that’s not maximum security and I don’t think they take in prisoners who are serving life sentences. It will probably be Shotts if Peterhead is closed.

I think they pretty much do last. More likely to come to harm /death inflicted by themselves.

Yabbers · 23/02/2019 10:22

Sky News made the application, seemingly so they could trawl his Facebook page and re-post his stuff, and it largely makes no difference to the outcome, there is no “public interest” there. I hope they are going to pay for the protection the tax payer will be providing when he is released. How much is it costing us to keep Thompson and Venebles hidden?

MrsJayy · 23/02/2019 10:27

It was said on Scottish news yesterday the family wanted his name known so news agencies did the application.

Spot on !

LagunaBubbles · 23/02/2019 11:49

At the end of the day the news organisations are a business so can see why.

JenniferJareau · 23/02/2019 13:15

Thompson not so much but Venables has now had at least 3 new identities from what I understand. Can't be cheap.

DarlingNikita · 23/02/2019 13:19

Saying if it had been picked up on earlier just sounds as if its blaming professionals

Well I do blame professionals. Or, more accurately, a system and a society that lets people slip through the net like this so that such horrific things are allowed to happen.

Some people are just bad. That's just too simplistic.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 23/02/2019 13:21

But the chances of him being a psychopath are high
You’ve been watching too much telly and think you’re spot on with diagnosis
He will have been assessed by if a psychiatrist and if MH were a factor it’d be raised

LagunaBubbles · 23/02/2019 13:30

Nothing to do with watching too much TV. He spoke online about killing someone. He tried to drown a child when he was younger. He killed and skinned cats. He had raped and murdered a child and inflicted 117 injuries on her, the worst an experienced pathologist had ever seen. He has lied throughout his trial. He didn't even flinch when Aleshas injuries were shown to the court. He tried to blame an innocent person for his crime. He has expressed no remorse. He is not mentally ill. Big difference between mental illness and a personality disorder.

LagunaBubbles · 23/02/2019 13:32

As I said the chances of him being a psychopath are high, don't recall diagnosing him though so no idea where the think you're spot on with diagnosis comes from.

LagunaBubbles · 23/02/2019 13:34

No idea why some people can't accept that there are bad people in the world either.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 23/02/2019 13:38

Personality disorder is a mental illness and there are treatments and interventions used with varying degrees of success
Many adolescents and adults express unpalatable views are are not mentally ill
Perpetrating a heinous act doesn’t automatically mean one is mentally ill or has a PD
His flat reaction to verdict is not uncommon, shock, anxiety, bravado, etc all impact upon emotional response
there was no evidence or psychiatric report to substantiate a mental illness

LagunaBubbles · 23/02/2019 13:55

Personality disorders (and there are many different types obviously) do not mean someone is mentally ill in the sense they are not fit to stand trial. That is what will have been assessed. Mental illness is blamed far too much for acts people can't understand, and of course I know doing something as despicable as what this boy did doesnt mean he is mentally ill. People. This does not mean he is not psychopathic tendencies obviously. He might not be mentally ill but someone that can inflict that amount of savagery on a child when legally of "sound mind" I. e. he does not have a psychotic mental illness that makes him unable to be in touch with reality clearly has a disordered personality.

UserUser123 · 23/02/2019 14:16

But Laguna didn’t say this did they? They said the chances were high that Aaron Campbell is a psychopath. I didn’t see anywhere that they diagnosed him a psychopath.

Snyde/sarcastic comments on a thread about a vile child killer - there’s really no need for it.

Personally, when he goes to “big boys jail” I hope the inmates get hold of him and torture the bastard to death.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 23/02/2019 14:26

I think (but am not sure) that psychopathy is hard to diagnose in teenagers. The most they could say is that the chances were high he is a psychopath. I would imagine he will continue to undergo observation and assessment.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 23/02/2019 14:29

Personally I think there is something wrong with people who hope he is tortured to death. Hmm but it seems to sum up society these days.

I am glad we have a legal system and prisons so I don’t have to think about him ever again .

UserUser123 · 23/02/2019 14:45

Yea, wanting a vile child rapist and murderer to have his comeuppance, instead of living a cushty life in prison and being released when he’s in his mid 30’s to probably reoffend definitely sums up society these days, doesn’t it.

Every time I watch the news and see that vile human it turns my stomach.

midsomermurderess · 23/02/2019 15:27

User, prison isn't cushy and you have no more idea than the rest of us what his sentence will be. And if you want him tortured to death, what ever your motives, your impulses are as debased and revolting as his.

UserUser123 · 23/02/2019 15:38

midsomermurderess

Haha really?? My dad spent most of my childhood in prison. He was considered to be one of the most violent people living in Scotland at the time (not for crimes against women or kids though!)

I seen first hand how cushy prison is. He was in Shotts special unit with 12 other prisoners who were also deemed to be the most brutal in Scotland. They all had their own bedrooms, Sky TV, were allowed to keep animals, a 5 a side football pitch, a play park for their families when they visited, a games room with pool table and an en-suite in each of their bedrooms. The prison officers also did their shopping for them with the ‘wages’ they earned from jobs they did. My dad made picture frames and chess boards which were allowed to be sold.

So are you telling me that’s not cushy???!!!

UserUser123 · 23/02/2019 15:41

In fact, he also spent a fair bit of my adulthood in prison as he wasn’t actually released until I was 26, so I know exactly what prison is like!!
