Because I think it’s naff!

She’s only 5, and she want a jojo bow like her friends in school.

I know it’s not the end if the world if she does have one, but I just think they’re so horribly naff and tacky!

PengAly chav doesn't mean that. It's not an acronym. It's from Romany meaning child. Clearly means something else now too, but not council house affiliated vermin or council house and violent!

In my opinion, chav refers to lifestyle choices, not class. I was working class and my family were not chavvy.

SalliSunbeem · 21/02/2019 10:23

She must be a tacky chav and I must swig cans of Carling on the train in the morning then I guess 🤦🏽‍♀️

Following their peers at a young age does not mean they won't develop their own identity as they mature.

Absolutely, when I was a young teen I wore Reebok Classics and a Puffa Jacket...there is some benefits to getting old!

Apple103 · 21/02/2019 10:25

Shes 5. Let her be.

Choud1616 · 21/02/2019 10:27

I'm firmly in the camp of getting her one! It's her taste, not yours and she'll feel left out from her friends otherwise.

PengAly · 21/02/2019 10:27

@Fraula its just what came up when I googled it, first result actually. Its what people on MN are referring toto. but either way,i'vemadeit clear that I don't agree with the term and think its very derogatory.

IceBearRocks · 21/02/2019 10:34

We get DD the cheap ones from Home Bargains...she wore it for a bit but wasn't really arsed like others! She doesn't seem to be a trend follower!

Purplecatshopaholic · 21/02/2019 10:35

Aww, just buy the bloomin thing. It will become SO much more of an issue if you dont, and all her friends have them

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 21/02/2019 11:58

I own both of these so get her the sparkly dms! My class love it when I wear them!

NutElla5x · 21/02/2019 12:08

I LOVE you dms stayingalive especially the pinky sparkly ones, make my plain ol' baby pink one's seem very boring. Maybe I'll get me a jojo bow to spice up my look a bit Grin I don't like Carling though

Whateverfloatsyourboatreally · 21/02/2019 12:09

What the actual fudge is this 😂
So much worse than a JoJo Bow

Brainfogmcfogface · 21/02/2019 12:09

I hate them but my DD was desperate and really wanted one so I caved and it made her so happy! But I did get them in the Claire’s sale so didn’t pay much for them.. interest has now wained after a few months and we are Jojo free Grin

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 21/02/2019 12:10

As my year 2's tell me I can never wear enough sparkle! They are incredibly comfortable too.

I have never owned a jojo now but I do have a tiara that comes out on occasions.

I don't drink so what soft drink would fit my image?

mummmy2017 · 21/02/2019 12:11

Children, always remember you said no.
This is no an expensive thing ..

Let her buy with pocket money

Whateverfloatsyourboatreally · 21/02/2019 12:11

Wont let me attach it but I mean the pink headband thingy... I know most of you are saying no to a JOJO Bow or as ive renamed it (a NoJo Bow) but crikey 😨😂

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 21/02/2019 12:47

When the bows first made an appearance dd1 told me no way would she wear them they are really horrible even though all her friends had them. I was v smug and relieved. That lasted all of a few months then dd2 was desperate for one. She has several now and actually suits them, I have said no to the bra type tops and make-up her peers have.

All children are different my eldest lives in character tops, leggings and hates anything 'girly.' DD2 however is just an explosion of glitter, sparkle,Tutus and everything girly including jojo bows. I would rather they were comfortable enough to express themselves, you are only young once.

golden if you want sparkly DM style shoes I got dd2 some from Primark for about £14. They've lasted v well and she gets lots of compliments on them.

Oh and generally I noticed the beer swilling families normally get the bus round here 😁 much more fun for the kids to swing on the bars and run up and down the aisles!!

PengAly · 21/02/2019 13:24

Where are all these families chugging cans of carling on the train? I seem to have missed them all! 😂

Ciwirocks · 21/02/2019 13:25

Ahh I would get the smaller ones for her, my dd has these and they are ok. She is a small 5 tho so the bigger ones look like they are wearing her as an accessory Grin

She also wants a crop top and a bikini! We have said no to both of those for now.

leiaskye · 21/02/2019 13:32

I would get her one. Biggest lesson I learnt when having kids was to pick my battles. I really wouldn’t see this as worth fighting.

My daughters are 11 & 8. They both have had loads, but of course the 11 year old wouldn’t be seen dead in one now!

My 8 year old wears them occasionally, but I don’t see many kids wearing them round here anymore.

FWIW, I have never drunk a can of Carling at 11am on the train, or at any other time, on any mode of transport.

m0therofdragons · 21/02/2019 16:26

@PengAly I didn't call the parents chavvy. My dc have them Hmm
People will judge everything and no matter how offensive you find it people will judge others as "chavvy" or an alternative word that means the same. People judge and it's really naive to think they won't.

PengAly · 21/02/2019 16:34

People judge and it's really naive to think they won't.

Once again, you are misreading me.... of course i know people judge, im not daft. I am simply saying judging children and their parents for a hair accessory is wrong and so is the use of chavvy in a derogatory way on this thread. How in anyway does that translate to me not understanding how judgments work?

LaurieMarlow · 21/02/2019 16:57

People judge and it's really naive to think they won't.

If those people in question are idiots, then who cares?

Birdsgottafly · 21/02/2019 17:03

"People judge and it's really naive to think they won't."

Teach your children to not fear judgement and be the lead on that.

Someone will always judge your, choices, behaviour, appearance, income level etc. You've got to quickly teach your children to not give a fuck.

Also, were can you still drink alcohol on a train, in the morning, especially in the company of children?

Me and my DD/Friends have to decant ours into soft drink bottles.

Soubriquet · 21/02/2019 17:16

Oh who honestly gives a fuck if there is someone sitting on a train muttering under their breath about how stupid something looks?

You’ve unlikely to see them again

altiara · 21/02/2019 18:00

OP, get her one!!!! the bigger the better, and definitely to be worn at a jaunty angle!
Like a PP I also had a Fergie bow, rock the bow mini Scafell, rock the bow! They’re not chavvy, they’re a bloody hair clip. 🎀
