AIBU to not buy my dd something she wants

Because I think it’s naff!

She’s only 5, and she want a jojo bow like her friends in school.

I know it’s not the end if the world if she does have one, but I just think they’re so horribly naff and tacky!

Thanks, Newnameforthis7.

Oh my goodness.
Well, I suppose you’re only 5 once ......

slashlover · 20/02/2019 22:19

Everything goes through phases, I remember putting lots of tiny butterfly grippers in my hair along with a neon green scrunchie at that age and thinking I was so cool. I remember at 8 wearing a snap bracelet and a load of bangles. I remember wearing a plastic dummy around my neck when I was about 12 (I think Robbie Williams had one).

ScafellPoke · 20/02/2019 22:19

And the reason I don’t like the look of them is likely because I’m a snob. I’d rather her be wearing the headband I knitted her!

Ah, new I love that!! So will my dd... maybe I can pursuade her with that instead. She only wants a bow because her friend has one.
She spent all last week wearing pink kitten ears headband, which was cute too.

I think it’s the bow material I don’t like.

Dear God no! They're awful things, absolutely hideous! If my DS was a girl, Hell would have to freeze over before I bought one of those monstrosities

ScafellPoke · 20/02/2019 22:24

Seems to be an even split atm. But I think I’m just going to have to buy her one... but will show her all manner of deely boopers 1st

Didn’t you want something as a kid? they are only children once.

whatwouldyoubelikeat28 · 20/02/2019 22:26

She's five. Get her a damn bow. Jeezo.
I think I'll get one myself.

m0therofdragons · 20/02/2019 22:27

I did accidentally forget when 5yo dd told me she loved leopard print leggings and a silver bomber jacket. All I could think was bianca from eastenders. I don't even watch the programme Grin

Theimpossiblegirl · 20/02/2019 22:27

Knitted hairband- poor kid, all she wants is a colourful bow like the other kids.

newnameforthis7 · 20/02/2019 22:33

We need to see this knitted headband OP! Shock

Anyone under 75 who can knit has my full respect. It's a dying skill. Grin

NannyRed · 20/02/2019 22:34

Be the lovely mum who did buy her the bow, not the sensible mum who denied her it. One day she’ll be grown up and it’s the silly things kids remember from their childhood that you’ll both laugh about.

ScafellPoke · 20/02/2019 22:34

Hey it is colourful

I’d get it for her. She will be delighted. Like you I am not a fan but it’s not a huge thing in the grand scheme.

Honeyroar · 20/02/2019 22:40

In a few years time she’ll be drawing on huge eyebrows and wanting a tattoo and this will seem like a drop in the ocean!

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 20/02/2019 22:40

Get her a huuuge hideous bow. Take many pictures. Save for her achingly cool teenage years. Weaponise.

3in4years · 20/02/2019 22:41

Just say no. Why do so many parents think they have to give their kids everything?

Katterinaballerina · 20/02/2019 22:42

I saw a girl wearing one the other week. In a museum. I didn’t see her parents so can’t say what they were drinking.

ScafellPoke · 20/02/2019 22:44

I don’t think so many parents do 3in4

PoohBearsHole · 20/02/2019 22:45

They are hideous.

Don’t buy one.

However pm me your address and I will pop one that was a gift to Dd (all of her friends gave her one for her birthday a couple of years ago - she wore most of them in one go and I was horrified 😱) it still has the label attached and is a proper jojo bow bow. Please let some I know fairy godmother from the internet give your daughter a gift.

would be so happy to get of the fucker

newnameforthis7 · 20/02/2019 22:46

Cool OP. Look forward to seeing it. Smile

I would just buy her the jojo bow. She will get bored with it within a few weeks. (You can prob get one for 3 or 4 quid from ebay or Primark..) Smile

newlyfrugal · 20/02/2019 22:46

I’m pretty relaxed with most things she wears but I can’t help thinking of the families I see on the train at 11am, all girls with jojo bows, parents with cans of carling.

Where do you live? I'm so intrigued by this! Where are these families going? Why they drinking?

Not point of thread but still.

PoohBearsHole · 20/02/2019 22:47

Oh and promise not to swear in the note 😁
