Private school: To go without a tie?

TigerTooth · 01/02/2019 22:42

Sorry - posting for traffic as I need a quick selection of opinions!
DS has an interview for an excellent private school on Monday - he's 11.
I'm planning nice chino's, clean polished shoes, open neck shirt and sweater.
Friend and my mother think a tie is necessary.
What do you think? Particularly if you experience of such things.
Thanks so much

Yes, he needs a tie. 100%

eco1636 · 01/02/2019 22:43

He should wear his current school uniform imo

edwinbear · 01/02/2019 22:43

He should be going in his current school uniform really.

eco1636 · 01/02/2019 22:44

Including the tie (and any shiny 'form captain' badges etc)

edwinbear · 01/02/2019 22:44

Please don’t send him in chinos

gingerfreckles · 01/02/2019 22:45

Defo current school uniform. Wishing him luckSmile

eco1636 · 01/02/2019 22:45

Exactly, chino might be wearing them

edwinbear · 01/02/2019 22:46

And get his blazer dry cleaned

RonaldMcDonald · 01/02/2019 22:46

Nope.
Either smart casual as described or school uniform
Tragic to have a boy dressed in a tie otherwise

edwinbear · 01/02/2019 22:47

He should be dressed like it’s a job interview. He wouldn’t go to a job interview in chinos and a jumper would he.

BertrandRussell · 01/02/2019 22:47

Current school uniform is usual.

Slippersandacuppa · 01/02/2019 22:48

Mine wore his (very underwhelming compared to some of them!) state primary uniform. Good luck!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/02/2019 22:49

Another vote for current school uniform

edwinbear · 01/02/2019 22:49

What is his current uniform though OP? Is it smart?

VWpurse · 01/02/2019 22:50

Current school uniform.
Failing that, something that looks like a school uniform and definitely with a tie.

LovingLola · 01/02/2019 22:52

He should be dressed like it’s a job interview. He wouldn’t go to a job interview in chinos and a jumper would he.

He is 11 years old. A child.
I’m just aghast at the whole circus that appears to surround trying to get children into these seemingly prestigious schools. Parents seem to lose all sense of reason and balance.

Somethingsmellsnice · 01/02/2019 22:52

He will be absolutely fine as described. I work in a private school.

Only ever go in current school uniform if the school stipulates that it should be worn.

WardrobeInCrisis · 01/02/2019 22:52

Current school uniform or normal day clothes if not possible.

eco1636 · 01/02/2019 22:55

But presumably Monday is a normal school day and the op's child will be in class before/after the interview. In which case, getting changed to chinos seems.... ridiculous?

Seeline · 01/02/2019 22:55

Another whose DS went in polo/sweatshirt combo from state school primary. Got offers from 2 schools.

Togertiger · 01/02/2019 22:56

I work in a private school and the majority turn up in the current school uniform. It is not stipulated anywhere, it’s just what people do.

(The ones that don’t are usually from overseas.)

Clearly this is the wrong thread for you sweetheart

BlueTrees123 · 01/02/2019 22:59

If his current uniform is smart ie blazer, shirt and tie, he should wear that. Otherwise, he needs to be in shirt, tie and school trousers at a minimum. Ideally, he should be wearing a blazer as well.

TigerTooth · 01/02/2019 23:00

Oh dear I should have said - No uniform at current state school.
Why not Chino's?

TrixieFranklin · 01/02/2019 23:00

Please no chinos
