Everyone here (nearly) says it will be bad.
Let's hear some positives about our coming freedom from the EU!

Althugh it now occurs to me that might have been sarcastic...

noodlenosefraggle · 28/01/2019 12:32

I think you're asking in the wrong place. I haven't a clue why people voted for this, but they did, and I'm willing to bet they will again if we have a people's vote. The 'why' is what I don't understand. And the Human Rights Act ties us to the European Convention on Human Rights, mainly written by all those people who fought in WWII that Brexiteers love who we will still be a signatory to after we leave Europe and enshrines irritating things like our rights to freedom of speech, movement, liberty etc into our Law.

DanglyBangly · 28/01/2019 12:32

No more having to pander to the Human Rights Act.

Think that’s a myth. We have that because we’re signed up to the European Convention on Human Rights, which is not an EU thing. Sorry leavers!!

findingmyfeet12 · 28/01/2019 12:34

Erm I think my post was taken literally Grin

Tinyteatime · 28/01/2019 12:35

There might be a property price crash and we might afford to buy? That’s the only possible positive I can think of for me.

Luckingfovely · 28/01/2019 12:35

Yup, unreasonable, because the whole thing is a disaster, and the people who voted for it hoping their lives were going to improve are only going to be worse off.

SweetheartNeckline · 28/01/2019 12:37

The only positive about it is that once the final move is actually made we won't have the uncertainty, which is incredibly damaging.

We'll all have to be less self-obsessed and navel-gazing when life is actually hard.

I'll also lose the baby weight easily on a diet of potatoes and barbequed grey squirrel.

HaveYouNamechangedForThis · 28/01/2019 12:37

We won't be tied to the EU? The EU is not all sunshine and flowers. There's a lot of problems.

Hoppinggreen · 28/01/2019 12:38

Nope, got nothing

ilmmaiss · 28/01/2019 12:39

The massive positive I have is when my leave-voting family moan about the mess I can say "I told you so".

BollocksToBrexit · 28/01/2019 12:39

No more having to pander to the Human Rights Act.

This far on, do people still not realise that the European Court of Human Rights and the EU are different organisations? For crying out loud, they're not even in the same country. The Human Rights Act relates to the European Court Of Human Rights which has NOTHING to do with the EU and whose decisions are not and have never been binding on the UK.

Moussemoose · 28/01/2019 12:39

The EU is not all sunshine and flowers. There's a lot of problems

So rather than work to improve the EU we leave it. The question still remains what are the benefits of leaving?

explodingkitten · 28/01/2019 12:39

It's a good thing that the UK is leaving the EU because they hate all the decisions they made together with the EU for decades. Of course only the right decisions will be made now. Not all those wrong ones that made the EU a big economic power in the world.

Just to clarify - my post about the Human Rights Act etc listed all daft the reasons why people voted for Brexit IMO.

It wasn't my opinion!

Maybe my sarcasm was misplaced..

Yes, yabu. A positive thread on Brexit would require Brexit to be positive. It is not.

Dahlietta · 28/01/2019 12:44

I've got one: it might not be as bad as the worst case scenario. Does that count?

BollocksToBrexit · 28/01/2019 12:44

Sarcasm is broken. It only works in a world where sanity reigns.

Annickey · 28/01/2019 12:44

It's going to make life much harder for young people growing up in the UK. It's a shame that an ageing population voted against the best interests of young citizens.

Sproutingcorm · 28/01/2019 12:45

Brexit itself won't solve the problems that prompted Brexit, so no, genuinely can't think of anything positive I can mention.

Blibbyblobby · 28/01/2019 12:46

if housing becomes affordable, all the pain of Brexit will be worth it.

Not sure if this was serious, but on the off chance it was...

If housing gets cheaper it’s because a lot of people are losing their jobs. Not a win, and not “becoming affordable”.

ThanosSavedMe · 28/01/2019 12:46

Findingmyfeet, love you have had to clarify that. The trouble is those are some of the genuine reasons people have given for leaving, that’s why you were taken seriously!

doIreallyneedto · 28/01/2019 12:46

A united Ireland.

Not quite sure if I want that under the current circumstances, as it will not be an overwhelming majority voting for it, which would lead to a whole new set of problems.

PortiaCastis · 28/01/2019 12:47

The ECHR is nothing to do with the EU but everything to do with the Council of Europe
