Everyone here (nearly) says it will be bad.
Let's hear some positives about our coming freedom from the EU!

Absolutely @Scandaloso . The lack of joining up the dots by those banging on about falling property prices should be astounding us. But then of course they voted to leave. So astounded I am not. Despairing I am.

Limensoda · 28/01/2019 13:03

There must be many positives or we wouldn't have voted for it, would we?

HouseyMcHouseFace · 28/01/2019 13:03

I’m actually feeling rather more positive about it than I was. The new house we recently moved into has a secret passage that I’m currently converting into a bunker. I’m fairly certain it won’t be needed but it’s a nice weight to have off my mind.

RuggerHug · 28/01/2019 13:04

After the crash,a revolution when people don't believe 'it was the EU and the Paddys fault, WE the rich in government didn't do it,we had a plan'.

Hundreds of years later a wonderful musical is written about this revolution and the hard times people(mostly) survived in it. Do you hear the people sing?

I'm reaching amn't I?

Mistigri · 28/01/2019 13:04

So many statements lacking any kind of fact or statistical evidence.

That's actually hilarious. Where were the facts and statistical evidence in your post?

You're not an economist.

LadyGAgain · 28/01/2019 13:04

(Can't think of a positive for that one OP)

slashlover · 28/01/2019 13:04

Indyref 2 and the tiny possibility of Scotland going back into Europe.

You won't get a positive answer on MN. They're all too busy emptying their cupboards and garages to fill with flour, tinned soup and baked beans, dried pasta and organic chocolate as we are all going to starve and die within the next 6 months. Oh and zombies will be walking the streets so best grab a few handy weapons too.

I'd try elsewhere, to be honest

Well it's not as if you've given any reasons either.

StealthPolarBear · 28/01/2019 13:05

Brexit is a fantastic word for scrabble

BorisBogtrotter · 28/01/2019 13:05

"I work in economics, we overall think Brexit is hugely positive to our economy"

Which goes against the stated opinion of the majority of economists, banks and economic analysts.

"UK will now be able to use the money it contributed to the EU for its own benefit"

If you work in economics, then you'd realise this statement is bunkum .
"It can now no longer need to enforce the Human Rights Act (this can be a hugely positive thing you just need to read into it and the negative effects we've suffered due to it)."

We aren't repealing the ECHR as it isn't part of the EU withdrawl act, you know due to not being part of the EU.

"We will no longer need to bail other countries out as they begin to fail."

Ah this suggests you don't actually work in econimics

In fact if you do, i fear for those who you work with.

@danglybangly
Well, I’d say there are too many people in the country. The NHS cannot cope, the best schools are oversubscribed, commuter trains are packed and there isn’t enough housing

The answer to that is to build more hospitals, schools, transport etc. Not to cut the supply of labour that is providing growth in the economy. We have an aging population. We need the workers. There are some jobs like fruit picking that simply will not be done by UK workers.

Besides which, Brexit won't reduce immigration. Any country like India, China etc will want quotas for immigration and a loosening of visa requirements as part of the package. We could end up with more immigrants, from further away and who are less likely to ever return to their home countries. Not sure that's what most Brexiters had in mind.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 28/01/2019 13:05

Uk manufacturing companies will find that their products increase in demand throughout Europe as it becomes more affordable to buy from England as it was pre-brexit.

@Springmachine won't tariffs and additional red tape make trade more expensive?

LadyGAgain · 28/01/2019 13:06

Come on then @CatnissEverdene . Ready to hear your positive spin.

MonicaGB · 28/01/2019 13:06

It will keep those feckless working class in their place. Make sure they can't afford to better themselves as they will lose their jobs and homes.

Seriously, no positives can come from this. A lot of our human rights came from the EU as those rich people in power would rather we don't have any rights as it makes us want things more equal.

Passing4Human · 28/01/2019 13:06

You do know that every time you experience a brain fart you don't have to start a thread about it OP?

There is nothing good about Brexit. Nothing.

My DP though might finally feel vindicated over his lifelong manic hoarding tendencies when he's able to do a fine trade in shoeboxes of half-used batteries to power things in the event of a blackout?

BorisBogtrotter · 28/01/2019 13:08

The "I work in economics" post which then goes on to make massive factual errors is hilarious.

Another leaver claiming things that never happened.

Scandaloso · 28/01/2019 13:09

Maybe Patrick Minford is a Mumsnetter...

Come on then @CatnissEverdene . Ready to hear your positive spin.

Maybe a real life Hunger Games to triumph in?

Limensoda · 28/01/2019 13:09

I blame David Cameron.... 😕

puffyisgood · 28/01/2019 13:09

very good news for involvency practitioners.

I get a lot of sympathy and pity from the authorities here for all things Brexit related so maybe that is a positive?? Confused

Picking up my new driver licence tomorrow (we've been told to swap UK licences now due to impending no deal), tempted to take my passport in too and ask them to take fucking pity on me and swap that as well.

nomad5 · 28/01/2019 13:11

^^ I live in the EU27

OP YABVVVVVU for starting this thread

explodingkitten · 28/01/2019 13:11

House prices crash when there are lots of houses for sale but nobody buys them because they can't pay for them. A house price crash will not mean that you have the same amount of money now, can get the same mortgage bit just buy a better house. It doesn't work like that. I bought a flat in the Netherlands during the last crash. It was very, very difficult to get a mortgage and it was much lower than what I could get now.

findingmyfeet12 · 28/01/2019 13:12

I don't "work in economics" but I do work with investment bankers in the EU.

Let's just say that they were rubbing their hands with glee when the outcome of the referendum was announced.

Surely it's not a good sign when your competitors are ecstatic?
