To think that Steve Wright on Radio 2 sounds tired?

Just that really. I think this show has run its course now. Lots of lazy links to fake Jeremy and now Paul McCartney. My Dad says he was great in his day but I think maybe his day has ended? It would be great to hear a new DJ inject some freshness into the station.

I really enjoy it when Craig Charles steps in. I can't cope listening to Steve "love the show" Wright. It is cringe so switch over

weleasewoderick22 · 22/01/2019 17:55

I've been listening to him for too many years to mention, first on radio 1 then now on radio 2. He does sound a bit tired, but I like the banter that the others who cover him don't seem to have. I'd be very sad if he went.
On the other hand, Zoe Ball is annoying me already. Loving Sara Cox.

Disfordarkchocolate · 22/01/2019 17:57

I switch off as soon as I hear his voice but lots of people must love him. Loving the new Sara Cox show.

Beautifullydamaged · 22/01/2019 17:57

I loathe those links to Jeremy and Paul McCartney, they make me cringe and what exactly is the point of them? Yes Craig Charles is much better

surferjet · 22/01/2019 18:02

Ooh I love him! & don’t forget, his audience are probably 45+, so he’s a link to their youth.

chilledteacher · 22/01/2019 19:42

I like Craig Charles. I think in time he would be a good replacement.

I also think in time Sara and Zoe will swap slots...

i dont need a link to my youth

marvellousnightforamooncup · 22/01/2019 19:48

Rule of thumb, anything that calls itself 'The Big Show' (see also Michael MacIntyre) is unutterably shit.

Susiesoap7 · 22/01/2019 19:48

I love steve Wright but then I've listened to him many years also. He's helped me get through many a long boring afternoon at work! Anyone remember his silly song. Fillet of fish? Lol

ManicUnicorn · 22/01/2019 19:48

God yes, the bloke doing the Jeremy Vine impressions were a bit funny when they first started but now they are old hat and about as funny as an enema.

Torvi · 22/01/2019 19:54

Serious jockin. Ugh.

Plus the singing over the end of songs Hmm

I was rather hoping that slot would get a new DJ
too

chilledteacher · 22/01/2019 20:19

@Torvi tempted to "text the show" -you're doing my f**€£in' head in - no g!! Grin

He must be the next one to go surely?!

TroysMammy · 22/01/2019 20:21

I like Craig Charles too. Can't abide SW and his twatty "serious jockin, no g". Fuck off.

Jsmith99 · 22/01/2019 20:22

Wright has sounded ‘tired’ for at least the last 20 years. He must have some serious dirt on the big bosses at the Beeb. That is the only possible explanation for why they chose to force the excellent Simon Mayo out rather than him.

ManicUnicorn · 22/01/2019 20:24

Oh why do they play an extend version of the theme tune before the news? In fact, why do they even have a fucking theme tune?! No other radio show does that I can think of?

IAmWonderWoman · 22/01/2019 20:24

‘Cheers Jer’ everyday at 2pm.

Fucking hate it. Like him and Jeremy Vine are best mates. I wonder if they are.

flissfloss65 · 22/01/2019 20:27

I only hear bits s of the show whilst driving. I hate the Jeremy Vine segment but have just seen it’s an impression! It really made me hate JV as he sounded so desperate!

Thepearofwisdom · 22/01/2019 20:30

It's past time for him to go, he's been on the radio since I started listening and his show hasn't changed that much.

Remember ask Elvis and the old woman? I am just irritated by him now. I agree Craig Charles would make an excellent replacement, I always like the music he plays.

PavlovianLunge · 22/01/2019 20:37

He must know where a lot of bodies are buried. Like, all the bodies.

DaedricLordSlayer · 22/01/2019 20:38

Was coming on to write the same. Him and his show were past their sell by date decades ago.

For years I keep wanting to try out radio 2 I see the line up of DJ advertised and think yeah that's good, then I turn on and I get Steve.fucking.Wright.everytime.

PuppyMonkey · 22/01/2019 20:44

I am fascinated by Steve Wright’s use of extended theme tunes. I reckon he’s off somewhere on the bog half the show and the producer is panicking, shouting “get the da da da da da, da da der” tape on.Grin

I think he should go. He can keep his Sunday Love Songs slot and give weekdays to Craig Charles.

noodlenosefraggle · 22/01/2019 20:49

Oh god the Jeremy Vine bit makes me switch off immediately. I agree he must be on the loo or just can't be bothered because he just plays loads of them in a row now.

AngelinaNeurosurgeon · 22/01/2019 20:49

He's unlistenable, and I am well within the demographic that a PP suggests he's broadcasting to.

noodlenosefraggle · 22/01/2019 20:51

So am I angelina. I always assume his demographic is 55+ men.

wizzler · 22/01/2019 20:52

Can't bear him either in the afternoons or on Sunday mornings. Would rather switch off then listen
