To think that Steve Wright on Radio 2 sounds tired?

Just that really. I think this show has run its course now. Lots of lazy links to fake Jeremy and now Paul McCartney. My Dad says he was great in his day but I think maybe his day has ended? It would be great to hear a new DJ inject some freshness into the station.

Bibbity I agree actually, I think he does really good interviews.

MeMumsMedicine · 22/01/2019 21:53

He's bloody awful.

Me and DH are 51 and 53 and we can't listen to him at all. It's like being catapulted back to the 1980s. His show hasn't changed at all. It's like the Afternoon Boys all over again and Mr Spoon. It was shit in the 1980s and it's even more shit now.

And that utterly fucking stupid Jockin' shite. Just no you arse!

Patroclus · 22/01/2019 21:54

Drives me completely mad, especially when he tries to make out he and his pointless sidekicks are best friends with George Clooney or whoever. It relies on that trick ITV use of hinting at everthing being ironic so that you feel like you cant point out how crap it all is.

However, anything is better than the pretentious muso-twatfest that is 6music.

ManicUnicorn · 22/01/2019 21:55

Why do we need an essay on the people who write into Non Stop Oldies? 'Beryl lives in Runcorn with her husband Reg. They've been married for 45 years and have three kids and five grandchildren. They are both retired love pottering in the garden going to their caravan in Rhyl with their dogs...'

I mean who really give a shit?

yorkshirepud44 · 22/01/2019 21:56

Even the dcs start spontaneously clapping and saying "love the show Steve" when they hear him. Excruciating stuff.

GypsyRoseTea · 22/01/2019 21:58

Oooh Gary Davies oooh Garry Davies on your radiiiioooooo

HoraceCope · 22/01/2019 22:01

I like the oldies bit. But then again I rarely listen, luckily

Paddy1234 · 22/01/2019 22:04

Switch off when he comes on.
Starting to like Sara Cox.

beela · 22/01/2019 22:08

Urgh, I can't stand it, so smug and self congratulatory. Why keep that and get rid of Simon Mayo? Sad and Ken Bruce is almost as bad.

I have tried to like Zoe Ball but had to switch over after 10 minutes. Sara Cox.... meh, take it or leave it.

I might have to go properly grown up and start listening to radio 4.

I did like Rylan at the weekend though.

BearFoxBear · 22/01/2019 22:08

He's always been shit!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/01/2019 22:11

I turn the radio off at 2pm. He is so old fashioned. Was good in the day, but that’s looong gone.

MarjorieFrangipani · 22/01/2019 22:14

Oh no, he's an awful interviewer! Just sucks up to the star in a toe curling sycophantic way, and yet thinks he's their best friend and they're lucky to be on such a fantastic show.
Dreadful. The ridiculous guffawing and fawning from Janey is very irritating.

It's cringey and dull now. It's time he went, it really is. Smiley Miley needs a friend in the retirement complex and he should have taken Steve there long ago.

I too hope they swap Zoe and Sara's slot. Sara is funny, cheerful and interesting and I'd much rather hear her in the mornings. Zoe is lovely (and excellent on It Takes Two) but more mellow. I think I'd prefer her later in the day

BikeRunSki · 22/01/2019 22:16

I’ve thought SW in the Afternoon show had had its day for about 25 years!

peachgreen · 22/01/2019 22:20

I can cope with people sleggin' Steve Wright (even though I love Love Songs and Serious Jockin') but HOW VERY DARE anyone complain about the hilarious Elaine Paige and - even more shockingly - the consumate professional that is Ken Bruce?! If R2 ever lost Ken I'd be gutted.

Quite like Zoe's new show although I would have preferred her at drive time and Sara Cox in the morning, she's like a cozy cuppa. Can't stand Craig Charles. Would like Simon back in a later evening slot. Love Michael Ball and Graham Norton. Alan and Mel should take over from Paul O'Grady.

123rd · 22/01/2019 22:20

I only listen to JV during the week now

Used to really enjoy Simon Mayo show.

Pinkyponkcustard · 22/01/2019 22:21

Yanbu he is dreadful. Like Craig Charles though.

SPARKS17 · 22/01/2019 22:21

Can someone explain the “no g” thing, I’m a relatively new radio 2 listener and don’t get it at all!!

Whisky2014 · 22/01/2019 22:22

I'm surprised how many people like Craig Charles! I can't stand him. Or Elaine Paige!!

HoraceCope · 22/01/2019 22:25

I can't bear Craig Charles either

MarjorieFrangipani · 22/01/2019 22:25

Elaine's fake laugh is very annoying

PabloTescobar · 22/01/2019 22:28

I have been listening to R2 for donkeys years and I'm not that fussy. I even love a bit of nostalgia, I mean if they somehow reanimated Jimmy Young and stuck him back on I'd probably listen, and EVEN I don't like Steve Wright.

MarjorieFrangipani · 22/01/2019 22:28

SPARKS I don't think the 'no g' thing IS anything.
Apart from crap
And completely unfunny

grimbeardtheghastly · 22/01/2019 22:29

IMHO...!
Craig Charles - awful, smug
Steve Wight - Lovely in the 80s, 90s? - unbearable boring now. As soon as he says SERIOUS JOCKIN I switch over to radio 1/4/Heart/Anything.
Zoe Ball - bearable
Sara Cox - funny, wish she started earlier in the afternoon!

brizzledrizzle · 22/01/2019 22:30

Back in the day when he was on radio one he didn't sound great, none of us who were into indie music had a good word to say about him, he just wasn't cool, trendy or whatever. Radio one was only ever on for the late, great john peel.

Sarcelle · 22/01/2019 22:37

SW has had his day (about 20 years ago). Can't stand Zoe Ball. Prefer Sara Cox. Graham Norton is stale. Like Michael Ball. Wish Alan Carr and Mel Sykes had a regular show. Would like to see Jonathan Ross return to Saturday mornings. Ken's ok. Would like Vanessa Feltz to take over from Jeremy Vine.
