To think that Steve Wright on Radio 2 sounds tired?

Just that really. I think this show has run its course now. Lots of lazy links to fake Jeremy and now Paul McCartney. My Dad says he was great in his day but I think maybe his day has ended? It would be great to hear a new DJ inject some freshness into the station.

Of course he’s tired, he’s been doing the exact same show since 1981.

wizzler · 22/01/2019 20:53

.. and I am 53

Thesearmsofmine · 22/01/2019 20:54

Yes, his show is really dated and I turn off when he comes on. Can’t they stick with his love songs on a Sunday but get someone new in the week.

chilledteacher · 22/01/2019 20:56

It was his show that needed fixing last year, not Simon's 😢

yy , the last thing I want is a link to my youth. I prefer current music.

NerrSnerr · 22/01/2019 20:59

I quite like Steve Wright. I find the extended theme tune before the news comforting and I love the none stop oldies (and how brilliant it is when someone from my era is on). I also like the new Zoe Ball show. I haven't heard much of Sara yet.

I can cope with any changes on Radio 2 as long as Ken stays.

ForalltheSaints · 22/01/2019 21:03

I did not know that he was still on a national radio station. He was past his sell-by-date in about 1989.

ShowOfHands · 22/01/2019 21:07

Non stop oldies?

Sandra from Wolverhampton who loves the show and loves her music. Swears she likes a bit of everything when in reality she sticks to the Radio 2 playlist from any given decade and thinks a bit of ABBA makes her wacky. Shout out to her husband Brian who's working hard and the show's getting him through the afternoon. Thanks Steve, lovin the show, no g.

RiaParkinson71 · 22/01/2019 21:08

Yes, and that depressing love songs show on a Sun morning needs to go as well. I think Alan and Mel for 2-5pm week day slot and Michael Ball Sunday 9am-1pm. Then we need someone to take over that god awful Elaine Paige show! Jamie Cullum may be good for that slot . Or diff presenter every week!

Boredboredboredboredbored · 22/01/2019 21:27

I turn it over at2pm as I cannot stand listening to his fake laughter, his shit jokes and his general personality. He needs booting off imo.

chilledteacher · 22/01/2019 21:27

@RiaParkinson71 YES!! My kids are freaked out by her laugh. We have to turn her over. Jamie Cullum is an excellent shout for that slot.

We need more michael ball and liza tarbuck, and bring back Simon mayo

Petalflowers · 22/01/2019 21:30

The Oldies are the best bit of hismshow, and th only bit I listen to.

I liked Craig Charles as well.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 22/01/2019 21:30

I find the Jeremy Vine send ups really funny. And Macca. Spot on.

I think no one interviews a celebrity as well as Steve Wright.

Petalflowers · 22/01/2019 21:32

Caught some of Rylans show at the weekend, amd surprisingly quite enjoyed it. I didn’t think he was an obvious radio choice, but he did okay (despite obvious nerves).

Lucisky · 22/01/2019 21:33

"It's me, EP!", god I can't stand Elaine Page either. Steve Wright should be retired. I always turn to another station when he comes on. Love Ken Bruce though.

jacksonmaine · 22/01/2019 21:34

Craig Charles is fanatastic.

RomaineCalm · 22/01/2019 21:36

@ShowOfHands - that's spot on with the non-stop oldies. I swear that there is a repertoire of about 20 'lists' and 20 'listeners' and they just pick a couple from the shelf at random and pair them up.

The whole of the SW show is tired. The Jeremy Vine thing makes me cringe, the factoids are all repeated and the 'no g' has the same stuff every week. Occasionally there's an interesting guest but for some reason SW brings every conversation round to how they are looking good and 'haven't you lost weight?'

Time for a change.

maddiemookins16mum · 22/01/2019 21:37

Craig Charles gives me the creeps. Bring back Gary Davies.

dayswithaY · 22/01/2019 21:39

I'm old enough to remember Steve doing Mr Angry, Gervaise the Hairdresser and someone from Stevenage?

Petalflowers · 22/01/2019 21:39

That ‘No G’ is frustrating and annoying, well past its sell by date.

Gary Davies Is superb and deserves more airtime.

Petalflowers · 22/01/2019 21:40

Days - me too. Weren’t they called The Posse.

Petalflowers · 22/01/2019 21:42

Just thought, somewhere I have tape,of me appearing on the Big Quiz on Steve Wright’s Show, with dc 1, who was a baby at the time, crying in the background. That means he has probably been on the radio for early 20 years (or more).

CocteauTwin · 22/01/2019 21:44

I have hated Steve Wright for over 30 years, he's never been funny or any good. I used to have to listen to his Radio 1 show at work, it was consistently grim.

I then accidentally heard his Sunday Love Songs show and couldn't believe it was even worse than his weekday slot. Smug marrieds (yes, I am Bridget Jones' distant cousin) crowing about they've been blissfully together forever, followed up with terrible soppy tunes - yuck. The icing on the cake was Lost Loves, clearly a stalker's paradise. Pass the sick bag, and his P45.

Disfordarkchocolate · 22/01/2019 21:45

Gary Davies was great when he covered for Ken, he needs to stop saying 'who dat' though.
