On the 22nd of December we had a delivery man knock on our door for a parcel for a lady 4 doors away from ours.

I took in the parcel for them and signed for it even though I don't know them.. my thought was that it's a neighbour and possibly a late Christmas present they didn't want to miss.

We attempted delivering the parcel to them every day, twice a day, from the 23rd-30th because they didn't come to collect. On the 2nd of jan we put a note through the door to say the parcel was with us and we attempted many times to deliver it to them.

We still have this parcel!!

Today I saw a lady come out of the house as I happened to be walking down the street to my car. I stopped her and explained we had a parcel for their house and explained the attempted deliveries and note. She laughed and said 'oh I know, thanks. We don't need it now and have had a refund for it' Confused
so then I said to her that it belongs to them and they need to return it if it's not needed. She said while walking away from me 'ha! Well I didn't sign for it' Shock

What do I do with it? Can I now be in trouble for doing what I thought was a good deed for a neighbour?? Sad

Seriously tempted to just leave it at their front door.... but I did sign for it Shock

Still speak to amazon and explain the situation. They probably will say keep it. If they want it returned tell them they can arrange collection at a good time for you.

At the moment as far as amazon are aware you signed for a parcel and kept it. This is what your neighbour will have said and why they refunded her. There is no proof you tried multiple times to give it to her.

Signing for something and keeping it is theft. This isn't what you are however this is how you will be seen by the courier company and amazon/the person who sent the order.

Make sure you have done what you can to make sure this isn't on you.

Well, it's better than tea towels!

Coppermine · 20/01/2019 16:04

Hell, if it had been a sex toy I'd have badgered them some more - chased them up the street with YOOOOOOO HOOOOOO your vibrator with extra tingly bits has arrived! We tried to give it to the cat as a toy, but he won't touch it - do take it back - it's yours!

😂😂😂😂

Gina2012 · 20/01/2019 16:54

Jeeze, calm down everyone. I went to bed at 10pm and have had more to do this morning than update on here.

Charming

And we are all being so adorably supportive Grin

ABigBraclet · 20/01/2019 17:01

Awww...I wished it was a bottle of sex lube and a fish slice. It is Amazon, after all 😂

Ethel36 · 20/01/2019 17:50

Love soap and glory...enjoy it! Sounds like you deserve it after all that ballache. Don't bother taking in their parcels again!

delboysskinandblister · 20/01/2019 17:58

*And anyway you've had it inscripted with your name. I'll leave it with your other neighbour.....^

OP - If you say it's Soap and Glory then I will believe you...Enjoy... Grin

buckeejit · 20/01/2019 19:22

Next time you see them with visitors-wait til they're at the door & say 'oh we contacted amazon about your package you didn't want & they said just to bin it as they couldn't re-sell sex toys anyway'

They were very rude not to come & thank you & apologise

LeopardPrintOwl · 20/01/2019 19:53

You’re being way too cautious OP...open it already and tell us what’s inside! Halo

Coppermine · 20/01/2019 20:55

Have you RTFT yet Leopard ?

BlackCatSleeping · 20/01/2019 21:31

Have you RTFT yet Leopard?

Nah, there's no point. What could have possibly happened over the last 9 pages?

jocsin · 20/01/2019 23:25

I was kind of hoping it'd be a dildo. Blush But anyway, fair result I reckon.

AlpacaLypse · 21/01/2019 22:13

I was so hoping it would be a gimp mask and a butt plug...

chardonm · 21/01/2019 22:37

OP is totally in the wrong - signed for a package that is not hers, then "tried to deliver it" without putting a note? So they have to be home at the times that OP tries to redeliver otherwise they don't get it?

From the neighbors perspective, they didn't get a package and asked for a refund. They never asked OP to sign for the package. Taking from OP now would be more fraudulent than not taking it. Her mess to sort out.

LittleMe03 · 21/01/2019 23:20

Shock really?? No I was not asked to take it but was trying to be a good neighbour by doing so.

I've been very appreciative of others doing similar.

Also have you actually read it all? Hmm

LittleMe03 · 21/01/2019 23:21

@chardonm

Are you saying you have never had a parcel took in by someone you never specified could do so?? Hmm

OP posts:
chardonm · 21/01/2019 23:25

Well I would have left a note - not just "attempted to deliver" without saying anything. How was she supposed to know you had the package?

From her perspective, she got a refund because the package was never delivered to her.

I don't want my neighbors collecting my packages and then not telling me, no.

chardonm · 21/01/2019 23:25

And yes I have read the whole thing

CandyCreeper · 21/01/2019 23:26

Tbf I hate it when neighbours take in my parcels, I wish they wouldnt.

delboysskinandblister · 21/01/2019 23:27

me neither

DonttouchthatLarry · 21/01/2019 23:40

Oh I'd have been very happy with Soap & Glory freebies!

I can't believe how many of you say Amazon told you to keep stuff and refunded you - I ordered some gin glasses for a Christmas present, 2 of the 3 were broken. I thought they'd be happy with a photo and tell me to chuck them, but no, they paid the postage to have broken glass returned to them!

Tiredismymiddlename85 · 22/01/2019 02:43

@chardonm It's up to the delivery driver to leave an Amazon branded delivery note informing the recipient that they have left the parcel with a neighbour! They do this all the time if the recipient hasn't selected a 'safe place' to their account. The OP did nothing wrong - the only thing I would have done differently is left the package on their doorstep after they'd rudely told her they didn't want it.

chardonm · 22/01/2019 02:48

Oh i didn't know that! Ok fair enough then!

Ifangyow · 22/01/2019 04:44

She did leave a note Charldonm. The delivery man also left a note. How many notes can be left!
The delivery drivers will always leave parcels with a neighbour unless an option has been given to leave elsewhere. The delivery drivers get fined for each parcel they return to the depot with.
You need to find grandma jane and ask if she will share her fun sponge with you.

LittleMe03 · 22/01/2019 10:34

@chardonm if you had read as you say you did you will see that I did leave a note as previous poster said, amazon leave a note also. It would have also been on their amazon account.

I won't be making the same mistake again anyway.
