On the 22nd of December we had a delivery man knock on our door for a parcel for a lady 4 doors away from ours.

I took in the parcel for them and signed for it even though I don't know them.. my thought was that it's a neighbour and possibly a late Christmas present they didn't want to miss.

We attempted delivering the parcel to them every day, twice a day, from the 23rd-30th because they didn't come to collect. On the 2nd of jan we put a note through the door to say the parcel was with us and we attempted many times to deliver it to them.

We still have this parcel!!

Today I saw a lady come out of the house as I happened to be walking down the street to my car. I stopped her and explained we had a parcel for their house and explained the attempted deliveries and note. She laughed and said 'oh I know, thanks. We don't need it now and have had a refund for it' Confused
so then I said to her that it belongs to them and they need to return it if it's not needed. She said while walking away from me 'ha! Well I didn't sign for it' Shock

What do I do with it? Can I now be in trouble for doing what I thought was a good deed for a neighbour?? Sad

Seriously tempted to just leave it at their front door.... but I did sign for it Shock

@Imknackeredzzz absolutely true. Been there.

DeathyMcDeathStarFace · 20/01/2019 01:02

You can take your chances, open the box and win the contents,

Or I, the Mighty WBanker will give you £5.00 for the box.

Deal or No deal.

Seriously though, you have decided to contact Amazon, I think that is the best idea. Put it in their hands to decide what to do. Also, the person has decided she doesn't want it has had a refund and not returned the item. If it was me who had sold her it I would want to know the situation as I would be out of pocket and if she tried to buy something from me again I would refuse to sell her it in case she did the same thing again.

MissLadyM · 20/01/2019 01:03

Cheeky bitch! Open it!!

Jenwiththecurls · 20/01/2019 01:09

I won't be able to sleep until I know what's in the box......

Gina2012 · 20/01/2019 01:18
  1. Do not deliver it to neighbour again
  2. Do not return it to Amazon they will not want it
  3. Do not contact amazon they are not interested
  4. FFS stop angsting over this bloody box
  5. OPEN THE BOX
gt84 · 20/01/2019 01:24

Placemarking.
Need to know what’s in that box!!
This is not your fault op, you did a kind thing and your neighbour is an arsehole

tumpymummy · 20/01/2019 01:33

Please let us know what's in the box?! Deffo don't give it to neighbour and don't take anything for them again.

MrsElbadrama · 20/01/2019 01:56

Just open the box!!!

Chickenwings85 · 20/01/2019 02:15

Dying to know what's in the box!

JustJoinedRightNow · 20/01/2019 03:59

(Brad Pitt from Se7en)

GoGoJo · 20/01/2019 04:45

It's your parcel now, Dave!

Or You need to open it to get the order number of the delivery receipt thingy before you call. Totally legit.

RebootYourEngine · 20/01/2019 05:30

You seem quite worked up about this. Like you fear the police are going to break down your door and arrest you in the middle of the night.

No one cares what you do with the parcel. The neighbor doesn't want it and Amazon have probably just written it off.

Open the box. Either keep it or throw it away.

cavycavy · 20/01/2019 05:53

I reckon it’s a rolled up wall planner. Our wall planner was delivered in a rectangular box and was very light, and not in a tube like you’d expect.

(Sorry, not an interesting point but at least I’ll be notified when OP tells us what’s in the box).

OP can you film yourself opening it and post the video here? My kid watches YouTube videos of other children opening kinder eggs and I feel like I’ve just landed on an idea that would appeal to adults.

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 20/01/2019 05:58

Keep it. Amazon have already written it off.

The woman is an arse though. If any more deliveries come for her, don't take them in.

I live at number 4 and had a delivery left at no.19 recently. It's halfway up the flipping road. I wondered how many doors that driver knocked on before he finally found someone at home. Hmm

Playmysong · 20/01/2019 06:00

It’s illegal to open someone else’s mail.
Contact Amazon, they may want parcel back, depending on it’s value. If you are asked to return it, you do not want it looking like you have opened it.
Hopefully they will tell you to dispose of it and you can then open it and put those who give a shit — not that I’m remotely interested of course — out of their misery.

jessstan2 · 20/01/2019 06:14

It's yours, op. I'm sure it is now yours legally so open it and see if it is something you like. If not, give it to someone else or a charity shop. Or, as others suggested, contact Amazon but the chances are they won't be bothered. It's just too much trouble.

I had something delivered to me a while back (bought from either Amazon or Ebay, can't remember) - quite expensive too - which was the wrong item but sender didn't want it back, they told me to give it away if I didn't want it and they then sent me the correct item. So I gave to a neighbour who was delighted. A result all round, presumably sellers have insurance to cover such things.

Your neighbour is one very rude person, I'd not be so helpful as to take in a parcel for her again & I ALWAYS take deliveries for neighbours, as they do for me. Can't believe she didn't even knock for it! Dreadful behaviour.

Do tell us what it is. If you haven't already (I've not read every post).

BlackCatSleeping · 20/01/2019 06:20

Have you opened it yet?

Grin
NicoleNoPants · 20/01/2019 06:22

I don’t see how it odd to just pop over a couple of times a day- you seem very considerate OP

CanuckBC · 20/01/2019 06:28

They will never deliver to a neighbour here, ever. I here this constantly on Mn and am always a bit taken aback by the practice. We have enough with porch pirates, I can’t imagine what would happen with packages delivered to neighbours🤣

littleleeleanne · 20/01/2019 06:31

If it's only of small value sometimes Amazon don't actually ask for the parcel back. So she might have organised a return for it (planning on picking it up from you) and Amazon may have said 'here's your refund don't bother returning the item'

However, a bit of a strange one - in the nicest way possible I don't think amazon will give two shits about the parcel. Small goldfish in a very large pond and all that. Don't waste your time on it. I'd open it, if it's of any good to you keep it, otherwise hoss it in her bin.

MarshaBradyo · 20/01/2019 06:38

Funny thread - at GP’s head

Your neighbour is highly irritating however
Hopefully no one will do her a favour again

Thinking of the light stuff we’ve had delivered from Prime it could be any number of very inconsequential things

Open it

6timesthemess · 20/01/2019 06:39

We had a similar thing happen with an amazon parcel. Told amazon and they told us to keep it.
Love my free food dispenser thingy Grin

usernameusername01 · 20/01/2019 06:48

I think you're right not to open it just yet OP.

Your neighbour is awful by the way!

Fingers crossed you get to keep it, for your troubles and it's something useful!

InMyBloodstainedSundaysBest · 20/01/2019 06:57

GrandmaJane wtf?! Sincerely hope you're not one of my neighbours. It must be a miserable old life if that's the way you think. Hmm

Hazlenutpie · 20/01/2019 07:05

Amazon are pretty good, I’m sure they will offer a sensible solution.
